Wonderful cast, wonderful movie, wonderful music. I'm sure glad they chose Marjorie Reynolds for this movie. She is so beautiful and quite a good actress as well.
"Holiday Inn" is a 1942 movie starring Bing Crosby and Fred Astaire. "Easter Parade" is a 1948 movie starring Judy Garland and Fred Astaire. The actress in this video is Marjorie Reynolds. Some of you may remember her as Peg, the wife of William Bendix's character on the TV series "The Life Of Riley" (1953-58).
Marjorie was gorgeous. She is perfect for this part. I'm sorry Hollywood didn't appreciate her more, and cast her in more "A" listed films. She was a very fine actress.
This was a great movie! A great competition for a woman (or two) between Bing Crosby and Fred Astaire. Take note here, Bing doesn't really look at Marjorie Reynolds too much whereas she can't stop looking at him with stars in her eyes (can't say I blame her there!) My absolutely favorite scene is Washington's birthday, W get to see the characters in 18th century dress and powdered wigs, and I lovely soft song, "I cannot tell a lie" that Bing will jazz up everytime, Fred is supposed to kiss Marjorie. Great dancing too, especially the Firecrackers dance..
The song “Easter Parade” was originally performed in the Broadway revue, “As Thousands Cheer” in the newspaper-themed show’s “rotogravure” section scene. Berlin rewrote the title and lyrics of an old song he wrote but never used. I believe the original, never used song’s lyrics started with, “Smile and show your dimple, you’ll find it’s very simple...”
no..the song " smile and show your dimple" was written by Berlin and performed around 1917...also recorded many times...the main theme is indeed the melody of Easter Parade..but Berlin re-wrote part of the rest of his tune and re-used it ...few people noticed it in a time of short memories and no internet😂..now of course you can google it and hear it on youtube...but that's not his problem anymore
Sorry but you are wrong, it was Holiday Inn, It was sung by Bing Crosby in the film Holiday Inn (1942), which featured an Irving Berlin song about each major holiday. In 1948, it was performed by Judy Garland and Fred Astaire in the musical film of the same title, which was constructed around the song.
America flushed things like this down the toilet, but used a roto-rooter to pull up rap, heavy metal and other such modern cultural excrement. I resent it, big time. Miss you Bing!!!
@To Tell The Truth No "Bing used to beat the hell out of those kids" is not the same as physical parental guidance. Because really Bing used to beat the H E double hockey sticks out of those kids."
turning your capslock on doesn't make your flaccid thoughts any less flaccid - how do you hope to "help with that revival"? by personally prancing around in an Easter bonnet and pretending the last 80 years didn't occur?
For those who dislike the colour, then please take a closer look. This video is manually recorded with a camera. A 2000s camera at that. You can see some motion on the frame every now and then. Not to mention the awfully grainy audio.
Not sure I like the color. They seem to have gotten the skin a little too dark, almost making it appear grey-ish rather then just more tanned. Still, gotta love Bing's eyes at 1:16.
Universal recently put out this movie on DVD with the original b & w version, remastered of course, and a color version which is incredible. You will like it. They did painstaking research to make sure they had the correct colors of clothes worn and the color of the sets used. It is probably the best colorization I've ever seen. In that same package, you not only get the b & w version, the color version, you also get a CD soundtrack of the music from this classic movie.
This song and video captures the lovely customs that once surrounded the holiday
When I go to church on Easter, I love how the ladies wear spring dresses, outfits and hats. Shiurly, a sign that spring is here!
So wonderful. That epoche was really so high and amazing about music and films. Christmas carols and Easter songs it this kind is top!
Wonderful cast, wonderful movie, wonderful music. I'm sure glad they chose Marjorie Reynolds for this movie. She is so beautiful and quite a good actress as well.
I watch this every Easter morning as I get ready for church. Past several years lol

She's cute.:-) (or, was cute).
My favorite movie!!
I have loved this song since I was a little girl and now I’m an old girl of 74.
Scene, clothes, song and setting. Class.
IM 74 TOO. 74 YEARS YOUNG. 😅
These were Happy times. Dressing up and wearing our Easter hats.. Weather was good back then. Air was fresh..
Love it. One of my favourite Irving Berlin songs.
The Ultimate House Movie!! So simple and Glamorous

A great scene but I loved Valentine's Day when they finally recognized her from behind. He comes up and takes her and by the second twirl it's over.
Every bit right up there with Judy Garland and Fred Astaire doing that song later in its own movie.
I wish we could go back in time

Such a pretty song. 💕
Oh the memories here! Beautiful !
Maravilloso Bing Crosby e Irving Berlin, cuanto talento
for those commenting about the movie title and such, he means Easter Parade is the name of the song :)
Happy Easter

❤Oh what a classic!
Courtship the old-fashioned way, which is better than today today.
Bing sings this song so welll.
America flushed things like this down the toilet, but used a roto-rooter to pull up rap, heavy metal and other such modern cultural excrement. I resent it, big time. Miss you Bing!!!
Bing beat the hell out of his kids, you dolt.
That you revere a philandering father who beat his kids BLOODY explains much. Seek competent mental health counseling.
So you support Sinatra? Maybe you don't like the gentle humor/singing and like Sinatra.
Chuck Tingstad he used a pillow case filled with oranges from his Grove

Lovely 👒🎩
👍 Great movie. Irving Berlin music
Bing Crosby And Fred Astaire Were On The Movie Holiday Inn
So so Beautiful ❤❤❤
Very sweet
Iremember this when I was young,, imagine BEFORE CGI lol
did this world even exist, or was it mostly a Hollywood fantasy ?"?!!! I want to be there NOW....

OUR AMERICAN TRADITIONS HAVE BEEN LAID ASIDE. THEY NEED TO BE REVIVED. I HOPE TO HELP WITH THAT REVIVAL.❤❤❤
turning your capslock on doesn't make your flaccid thoughts any less flaccid - how do you hope to "help with that revival"? by personally prancing around in an Easter bonnet and pretending the last 80 years didn't occur?
Colorized "Holiday Inn". "Easter Parade" is Fed Astair and Judy Garland.

Hopefully they got the blackface correct on the later scenes though am I right?
I think it might've had something to do with the fact that this video appears to be manually recorded with a tripod mounted camera
When America had class
When it was white
It's garbage now. Did you see the halftime entertainment at the super bowl this year? Real trash
Happy Easter everyone! 2020 ❤
2021! 🐣
2022
Easter parades and church Easter egg hunts, jelly beans and itchy slips under our dress.
A DEELight!!! Thanks so much...;)

Bingle is dope.
That's the problem with colorization...makes everyone look like they have jaundice!! We have the black and white version!!
Susan Meyer Maybe Bing was part Chinese.
@@enricosanchez894 Lol! He wasn't but good one though
6 years before Fred and Judy
This is as abrasive as the song should be
Robert Mitchum is no chopped liver🥰😍🤩
Der Bingle...
good job by BING
Really not a fan of the colorization.!
It does beautifully bring out the Easter colors, lilac and yellow.

Exactly--it is perfect in black and white. Color wasn't used as much before 1950, and this is at the beginning of WWII--budget was probably tighter.
Cool!
How could so much beauty from past times be replaced with so much ugliness today?
A badly colorized clip from "Holiday Inn"...
I think it's manually recorded with a camera. You can see a little bit of shaking every now and then.
Oh no, don't tell me they ruined 'Holiday Inn' with their phony colorization.
Awwwwkward.
Good song though.
