- Is This The Last NAMM Show ?
So far, there's no indication that the April 2023 show is going to be exceptionally large. It remains to be seen if giants like Fender or Gibson will participate, as they've opted out of NAMM in recent years. However, what's really important is the 2024 show.
There's a huge increase in gear production right now as parts shortages finally end and the pandemic's shroud continues to pull away. Even if some heavy hitters opt out of 2024, could we see an explosion in presence from brands like EART, Jet Guitars, 10S Guitars, Shijie, or Howl Guitars? Those second and third tier of producers (not your PRS, JHS, or Fender) could capitalize on the increased visibility and opportunity.

Imagine a car show were only the car dealerships get to go….they have to have shows for the public! They need to evolve
Absolutely not!
The public can go if they really want to. You can buy a pass as an individual. That being said, it doesn't really seem that most of the companies there were catering to the individual. Many companies had very little to show when they could have provided a better experience. I went with my band who got an invite on behalf of one of our drummers sponsors and the main takeaway is that many of the booths had nothing you could interact with. You could talk to the reps from the companies, but a lot didn't have hands on product demos. We did get to try a bunch of effect pedals from electro harmonix, catalinbread, walrus audio, jam and crazy tube circuits, and there was probably a dozen or more other pedal builders that had things on offer, but many of the larger brands didn't show very much or at all. Line 6 had two multi effect units and nothing else, from what I was able to see. Boss/Roland wasn't there at all, though, some amp and guitar builders had a few boards with boss and other pedals. DOD/Digitech had a booth with a few pedals on display, but nothing that was demo able. When I walked by on day 1, there was an empty pedal train with a guitar and amp at the booth. Our bass player mentioned that many of the pedal makers didn't have a bass guitar to demo the pedals. Other booths had a look but don't touch attitude, so half of the guitars at the show could not be played. If you really just want to look at things, you can do that online. That being said many of the piano/ keyboard booths had quite a few demo units. There was a ton of stuff and really cool people all around, with live performances at the ADJ and Yamaha Arena stages.
Open it up to the public.
agreed, should have opened it to public and big mass for free or at least affordable ticketing. so people around the world can see, try and buy anything there.
could be great destinations for annual vacation too

But where can you show your product to actual sellers all at one place? NAMM. On UA-cam, for example, your product could be lost and never seen. I will agree, however, that NAMM does have to make it easier (cheaper?) for people to attend because the world is changing.

I was at a pro audio company. I am an industry person, but am not currently at one. So could not go.
If I could have gone, I would have gone.
NAMM wont go away anytime soon. With so many people getting into music production, there’s a uptick in demand for gear software and instruments.
A couple of the grandpa brands not displaying won’t kill NAMM. Never has in the past. Next year winter NAMM is back in January, and be full swing
It should be open to the public. How else are you going to get new generations in to music. Like you said, there is less and less brick and mortar places around.
I’ve always thought that manufactures used NAMM for exposure. But that’s what the online world is for especially UA-cam. So how can Namm remain relevant.

Nope, too many major software/hardware companies missing. I’ve been working there the last four NAMMs.

It grew from 2022 to 2023. I think it's just rebounding after C19.
Ok next year is going to be better and in January like it was back in the day so hopefully it will be cool

Even if it isn’t going anywhere, I’m not allowed to go. You can only go if you’re a manufacturer, demonstrator, artist, or content creator, and if you’re not any one of these things, you’re not even allowed to buy a ticket to the event. As much as I’d love to go, my NAMM dreams all but extinct.
There's an old saying: "If something can't go on forever it won't."
Trade shows are not for bragging rights or to get glory but they are to show dealers future product lines that will sell and make a profit. All they hype is secondary.
Naam is getting more expensive each year
A trade show should have more people entering more people means more exposure
Each year more companies opt out of NAAM which is so sad
The dealers who would have gone , have disappeared..
Huge companies don’t need it anymore, I’m ok with that, on the other hand it is a good chance to small builders and new brands. Personally I prefer to know new brands and small shops heather big companies

I think the concept should be changed, from SHOW into GATHERING. I used to be there, too. Technology is making us more convenient to know new things as long as without having to test the new still limited number of prototype gears. And since pandemi, sending prototypes in the process of new products so far quite ok - so what is the point of travelling anyway? Accept for colleagues never lived abroad in some other countries. Even so with the GATHERING concept can be done online in sync, but for sure we can not give each other hugs in too far distance, right?

Guitar overkill. Its 2023, focus on music thats selling and the technology that supports it.
the way i feel about guitars is the only difference are the fancy paint jobs
NAMM has a ton of musical instruments, band equipment (brass/woodwind instruments) drums, hardware, software, mics, dj gear, etc. Guitars are only about 1/3rd of the show, if that. Some companies who showed up had next to nothing on offer, though. Yamaha sponsored this year and their Line 6 brand had a paltry showing with only 2 multi effects pedal stations and nothing else. Danelectro came and showed off about 2 dozen guitars, but no pedals. Several booths had almost no product to display and shouldn't have even come.

Stop it! As long as there are mfg. of music gear and people spend money there will be namm conventions. Kinda like you making money on u tube. A buck to be made.
