3rd time lucky bud with that mountain....it looked windy enough but at least you didn't get any rain with the wind.....as always great Footage and Safe hiking to yaa bud.....
@@raymondkenny6533 hey Ray, yeah it was a hard call. It's a weird one cause I know what way the valley is..maybe that could have added to the factor but look.. I got out, great hike and that's all that matters. ✌️😁
Fabulous footage as always. I love your honest commentaries:too many instagrams showing successes only, good to show that the wise thing to do is stay safe and that sometimes its ok and necessary to abandon a plan.
@@benmag5632 👋.. thanks for the comment. Yep I agree. For me it's all about filling your adventure cup up and I had a great day in the hills. Great hike, great exploring and I was happy out. Hate bailing but better safe than sorry you know. Thanks for the comment. Appreciate it 😁
@@walkwatchers cheers Alyn. Yep a frustrating bone but look.. it's all about getting out. Finishing the camp is a plus.. had a great day on the hills. Cheers man.
There was a fair wind kicking up there alright. That lake would have been brilliant to camp at but sponge mountain had other ideas. It definitely looks like the right call not to camp. Good watch 👍
@@GeoffGreenawayOutdoors appreciate it. It's always hard making the call. Think the fact I actually had a brilliant day on the hills.. my adventure cup was full so making the call was easier. Better safe than sorry. It was crazy windy alright. Stunning area thou. Thanks for the comment. 🙌
That lake looked amazing, Ive never been up that valley but it looks very nice minus the wind. I got caught out myself by the weather a few times. Everyone has their own limits. You did the right thing by heading down 👍
@@RamblingOn cheers man. Yeah if the ground was better I would have been more confident. Determined to camp there some day. Absolute stunning lake is right. So many rocks there. Place work a hike and a bivvy maybe would work.
Martin, that is practically tropical weather away down there in the far south🔥 Lovely light (on one side) on your way up and cool to see the blue of the sea far down below. That beach looked like a fantastic spot though that wind blowing down over the lough🌬 That was a lovely pitch beside the river and waterfall (for the second time)👍 You can't ignore a cup of tea☕ the most important thing on a wild camp trip. I do think that 'third time lucky' might apply here😊
Nice video with a very pertinent underlying question about bailing. I'd be interested to read all the comments about bailing clues. Certainly the pegs coming undone twice was a worry. BTW, what mountain forecast app/website were you using, and how reliable/accurate do you find it? Regards, Wadi.
@@wadirunner howdie. Yes bailing is a weird one. Probably a factor for me was knowing how bad that mountain gets. I'm already craving going back. Will bring a trap to help with wind. That app is called windy. Really good. Wasn't expecting the wind to blow that hard or again.. maybe it's sponge mountain.. 😁
Ah, too bad for you, but good call. One question, do you think the Xenon UL2 would have been the more windproof solution in this case? I know it's bigger, but seems to be a more stable structure too. I already owned the Helium UL1, but I got the Xenon now to have room for my dog as well, gonna take him on a camping trip up to Sweden soon. I love your videos by the way. I lived in Galway for a few years, unfortunately never made it out to Kerry. I'll definitely come back at some point to do some camping:) Greetings from Germany
@@Matthias-gl2tt greetings.. that's for the comment. Sweden.. stunning. Would love to go there. Yeah the Xenon is amazing. I'm looking into longer pegs. My issue with the area I was in is the ground. Just my opinion but i very rarely think its the safe call to bail in high wind and walk off the mountain in the dark, especially if its dry. Fair enough if youre trying to avoid your tent getting destroyed. A few Delta pegs and walking poles might have saved your night. Like i said, just my opinion, not saying youre wrong.
@@Karlosdjackle thanks for the comment. Yeah I need delta pegs. The Vango ones popped up a few times as the ground was quite soft. I understand what you're saying.
