Great perspective. Lots of immigrants like us see the opportunities this country has to offer. The only one that can stop is is ourselves

Sir, after looking at a couple of your videos, you are a very motivating individual. I noticed you said you wanted to be an officer since high school but saw that you were a Gunny before commissioning.
Why officer route after experiencing being an enlisted Marine? Myself, I’ve been in 11 years and am a SSgt. Officer route has been something I’ve always thought of, but I’m always seeing those guys just go in meetings after meetings after meetings lol. It’s not necessarily that part that puts me off, but the amount of administrative stuff that goes along with it (such as typing up policies, SOPs, different stuff like that).
Thank you for your time if you respond to this comment! Any response would be appreciated. Semper fi!

To be honest, it wasn’t a difficult decision for me because it’s what I always wanted. That said, after reaching the rank of GySgt and serving as enlisted for 12+ years, I did have to take a step back and think before committing to the change.
Now I’ve been an officer for ten years and I don’t regret a thing. However, not every good SNCO needs to consider becoming an officer. We need good enlisted members just as much as we need good officers. It has to be something you want to do, otherwise I’d suggest staying enlisted.
One thing I’ll say is this: as you move up through the SNCO ranks, life isn’t that different from an officer. Senior SNCOs deal with just as much admin work and meetings as officers; so if that’s what’s holding you back, I’d say just go for it. Unless you plan to stay a SSgt until the 20 year mark.
I could tell you more, but then this would be a novel of a response. If you’d like to talk about this and hear more of my thoughts on the matter, feel free to find me on the GAL and shoot me an email (Major Fabio Salas). I’m always open to speaking with Marines about their career options.

@@LivingMAD absolutely love to hear from senior Marines on this matter. I absolutely would not to stay as an E-6, although I have respect for those that do, I’d rather not if I can do something about it.
I’ll send ya an email this week!

Credit is good if you know how to use the system and play the game. I'm sorry but most American use credit to get credit cards as gift cards. People are not taught self discipline, delayed gratification and keep up with the Brownses first instead of the Joneses

You’re absolutely right. Credit can destroy you (and it does many people) if not used properly. It’s one of those things that can help you create wealth, but it can also lead to bankruptcy. It’s a slippery slope and you have to be constantly on guard.

I just can´t see the pros from all the cons which are the following:
    - crime
    - drugs and mental health (rising problems and deaths from fentanyl)
    - guns
    - homelessness and not enough affordable housing
    - terrible and expensive health care for regular people
    - even to this day: racism
    - overall dirtiness of the streets and lack of culture,
and I can go on and on on the cons...
But,those are very important in order to have a safe and carefree life in a country. Just look at how many people moved out of San Francisco because of the drug and safety problems (if expensive housing was not enough).
I´m not here to spread pessimism, but those are the facts right there. Man can ignore all that and walk over the dead, but where´s the humanity there? The society needs to make a U-turn as soon as possible.

I understand your frustrations and certainly agree that there is still a lot we need to do to make things better for everyone in America. That said, serving in the military for the last 22 years has given me an opportunity to see how others live in different parts of the world. My thoughts based on these observations is that although we’re not prefect, we’re pretty damn good. Certainly better than probably 90% of the rest of the world.

It depends on your perspective, you can see the glass half empty or half full

You’re right, perspective matters a lot. The U.S. is far from perfect. I in no way claim we’re the ideal nation. I’ve experienced customs in other countries that I wish we would adopt, but that I doubt we ever will. I’m sure if I’d been born in Japan, Australia, Canada, or some other first world nation I’d be doing just fine. There are plenty of other countries where people live perfectly happy lives. Are those countries better or worse than us? It’s up to each of us to decide that for ourselves.
All I’m saying is we have it pretty damn good in the U.S. Could it be better? Absolutely. Everything you mentioned is of concern and we should work toward addressing those issues. But having faults does not mean we can’t also have positives.
In any case, I appreciate your opinion. We need more conversations like these if we are ever going to seriously address the issues you mentioned. Thank you!

    Hello, Fabio Salas!!
I saw your UA-cam channel, and your video content is wonderful, but your video views are very low. I researched your channel and found some major problems. that prevent your video from reaching more people.
