That beginning with continuous tone is actually a very good way of showcasing the differences, I wish people would do that kind of thing more often ...
I have the Danelectro French Toast and I love it. A little bit of fuzz knob goes a long way with it, and the volume knob stays less than halfway, unless the fuzz is all the way down with tone and volume maxed. This a cool video.
What's most interesting about this demo is that each fuzz has its own distinct tonal character; no two pedals sound exactly alike. All great sounding though. Personal fave, not surprisingly, was the MXR fuzzface. It was the most familiar sounding of all that I heard...
Just an observation: The SM57 imposes a massive 7 dB hump at 5-6kHz, making it one of the most colored mics for capturing a fuzz. It's not an issue with the 4-transistor bigMuff; it brings out some welcome snarl , in fact - but there's more going on there in the foxx and danelectro in that frequency region, and not much elsewhere... for shure ;o) ymmv, it's just been my experience that unless the amp+speaker is rounding off some of the edges, the 57 can be rather unflattering to 2/3-transistor - especially the all-silicon - fizz designs.
The Foxx Tone Machine also has a pretty robust fuzz when you turn the octave off. It might not stand out much here, but think of it in a band's mix. The thing is literally a box full of mids.
What are you using to fade between the clean+slightly fuzzy sound and the fuzzywuzzyiest sound? You stop touching the pedal and then all of a sudden the tone morphs deliciously. Like at 2:45
Thank you! New to the fuzz (and electric guitar in general). I had been playing and writing on mainly acoustic for like 16 years cause I could never afford a decent electric set up and I'm finding out that there's so much more to dialing in a nice tone than just getting the right pedal and pushing the button haha.
oh yes, the Fuzzrite circuit has some of the best roll-off characteristics of any fuzz - chords won't side-band into dissonance so readily as other fuzzes do, - when hitting 1/4 - 1/3 volume at the input it has an extra- 'spike-y' top-end that's perfect for dub reggae and ska rhythm parts.
The Harmonic Percolator clone would have to be the favourite. Still doesn't come close to the screaming madness that comes from my HP clone build. But it still sounded good. Would probably be a lot easier to control than mine but really that's not the point. If I want more control over the chaos the I would use my ge Fuzz Face clone or something else.
Since they all sound terrible to me I may just stick with classic distortion/overdrive pedals. I never did hear a fuzz I liked. I was hoping to hear one here. Oh well. I can save money. Thanks for the video. It showed me everything I needed to know.

I concur
Best intro for a gear review EVER. Listening to them in quick succession was VERY informative. You can't do that at the store!
Finding sweet spot on fuzzrong is mind-blowing!!

I really like the Zvex Fuzzolo.
same here
I have one, and I love it. Now I want an Alien Hate Fuzz.
I have one, but the Hoof Reaper has taken it's place.
I absolutely adore mine.
Foxx Tone Machine.
@fuzzforlife which one would you say is your favorite?
Very good, but today, I believe the Pharao Fuzz deserves to be in this very select list.

Eric Johnson's fuzzy lead tone is a real example of what fuzz should sound like
What about the fuzz war?
No Superfuzz type or Bosstone? There's just too many good fuzz pedals out there. I love my Fender Blender. The Ampeg Scrambler needs more love too.
I bet the STD Machine is a Superfuzz (Ibanez Standard Fuzz was a very close relative of the Superfuzz).

Diax1324 try the orange fur coat! I have it and it is an amazing improvement from the original
Yup, built a tone machine with octave stomp, the fuzz is one of my top 5
'Olaf, do Berzerker. Girl think sexy."
I support Fuzz. Fuzz 2020.
I concur in the year of 2021.
That Hudson STD had more of a 60's flavor fuzz than any of the others did!
Yeah, I picked up on that too. I googled it immediately ha
Fuzzrong and FF were my faves
Was that pedal seriously called the STD machine?... Why god.
The Danelectro one sounded the best, in my opinion.
The STD Machine was also really cool.
My 2 favorites as well
I like that Big Green.
I just loves me some fuzz. Never herd one I didn't.
Fuzolo was instant QUOTSA to my ears
fuzz face ❤

volume control on the guitar

The Dope Preist :)
David Chamberlain it did sound pretty nice
Alien hate fuzz is my fav
Nice Video!~
Some of these sound like blown transistor radios. Aka like shit. Silicon Fuzz Face sounds good. Probably the best one of the lot.
Aguante el Fuzzolo de ZveX!!!tanto con mics pasivos como con activos se la reeee banca!!!(eso si,cambia la opcion del pedal en su circuito).

Fuzzes in the wrong hands all sound terrible.

They all sounded pretty bad
