Khrushchev's translator during this tour, Oleg Troyanovsky, said that Khrushchev was somewhat offended while he was in Hollywood watching the filming of Cancan, because the dance routine consisted of the girls flashing their bottoms at him. The fact that he was taken to see this routine he saw as an insolent and degrading gesture.

He didn't buried Stalinism. He just "softened" it a little bit. Stalinism is not confined to the personality of Stalin. Its a political phenomenon having certain characteristic and built upon Stalinist theory of "Socialism in One Country".

@arunvijaypalanivel Thank you for this. The reality is he didn't have a lot whole of power because he had to deal with the bureaucracy of the CPSU. I know they down played his anti-military speech as propaganda, but he did work very hard for it. I once read a paper his desire of de-militarization.

How exactly did they choose leaders. Did you have to be a member of the party to vote? I know in Cuba they have a very unusual system where you vote for people more on an individual basis at a local level and then they go on to elect the top dogs.
