- In this episode I take an in depth look into the Gerber complEAT utensil set for cooking in the outdoors. Is it amazing? yes. Is it perfect? No. I have loved using the Gerber Compleat for a while now and can see that it will be a useful tool in my outdoor cooking ventures.
It's robust, smartly designed and lightweight considering you're packing the whole kitchen drawer into your backpack!!

@@rickz9495 haha. Nice
Hey Thom, saw your video review a while ago, and also you using it in various vids, so I added it to my Christmas list. I opened it today and am delighted. Can’t get over how light the spoon is and how awesome the tongs are. Also, the silicone corner on the spatula, fantastic! Looking forward to using it soon (oh, asked for and received a Trangia Mini too - so will use them together!) keep up the good work!
Ah that’s great! I love mine so much. It goes with me on every trip. And the clever designs in the spoon and fork mean they can shave weight and save integrity.
Great stuff on the trangia too. Let me know what you cook up!
So far just a hot drink on the Mini. But planning a more exciting #TrangiaMoment in the coming days.
Saw the ComplEAT tool in another one of your videos last night. Ordered it immediately on Amazon and they just dropped it off today. Looking forward to testing it. Thank you and all the best.
You’re in for a treat! My only wish was that they made the peeler more aggressive. But with a file and some patience you’ll be fine.
This thing is so cool! Great replacement for my spork
I love mine so much!
Yes, those tongs mainly are excellent! Occasionally I use the same. Helps so much to cook on a pan and serve food on a plate. Also the view behind you on a valley is amazing! Thanks!
The view certainly helps!
I didn’t realise just how useful the complEAT would be! Thanks for watching!
The price has gone up since your video of 6 months ago. £28 from your link and an average of £24:elsewhere, but I think it is worth it still. Thank you for the very clear review.
That has gone up somewhat. However the amount I’ve used it and how amazing it is. I think it’ll be in my kit bag for decades so worth every penny.
I used mine yesterday along with the Trangia mini to cook my breakfast.
How did you find it?
@@OffTheBeatenPot a little awkward in the small frying pan. It would have been better using the 27 pan instead.
When I cooked the rosti in the mini, I found turning the spatula ‘upside down’ made a big difference. Even though it seems counter intuitive it made the whole deal really easy.
Super duper
Ordered this an the trangia mini on your recommendation. Cheers.
Great choices!
I use my gerber all the time.
And currently I’m working outdoors a lot and a use the mini to heat my lunch.
Let me know if you need any help or have any tips!
@@OffTheBeatenPot cheers. I suspect I'll need plenty of advice.
@@theandybchannel.1819 I’ll help wherever possible.
@@OffTheBeatenPot cheers. Sorry I couldn't use your links as I don't have Amazon. What fuel do you recommend please, lots to choose form.
@@theandybchannel.1819 no worries!
I use any bioethanol I can get.
Vango do a version or you can get big tubs from b and q
I gave in and bought one after watching your video. I think it's a fantastic set apart from the Veg Peeler. What were they thinking when they came up with that, there is no clearance to allow it to peel. I 've taken a Dremel to one of the edges to allow a bit more clearance, it's not perfect, but it will definately peel carrots. All the best Mally
It’s a shame they didn’t manufacture with a good edge. I used a file in one side of mine.
But I want it to be able to skin a deer out of the box!
@@OffTheBeatenPot Since using this a few times I kept hurting my hand on the bottle opener side of the peeler. I've since used a cheap keyring identity tag with the paper card and plastic cover removed. It slips over the bottle opener end snuggly and still allows it to join together. It's not perfect, but it will do the job. All the best Mally
@@mally125 I’ve not had that yet. But your solution sounds very elegant
I'd prefer that they just didn'ty include that part at all. I find it really annoying that all these things have to do everything when it's just not suited to it, especially since I carry an SAK anyway.
That’s a fair observation. Sometimes companies seem to squeeze out as much as they can
Loving your thoughts & sentiments :-) *
Yep, I love mine too!
I’m very impressed with the thinking of it all. I’m surprised other companies such as MSR aren’t mimicking a similar system.
They are great I love mine.
I can’t believe it took me so long to get one!
Want one.... 😂
anyone use this set long-term? I am interested in purchasing a nice set for lunch at work. The last 'camping' gear utensils I purchased tasted metallic and the finish started to tarnish quite a bit. The Gerber set has a cool factor 10....if anyone can attest to longevity and durability, I just may use my Amazon G.C. to buy...
I use mine a lot. But not daily. Depending on your types of lunch you may be a little disappointed with the knife.
I’ve had this for a few years and the finish is tarnishing a little bit.
I would recommend the ‘outlery’ set for a more daily use
Pleased with mine - but the components do fit together very tightly, and I have a struggle to fit back together - has anyone else found that this gets easier with repeated use?
It is definitely ‘knacky’ but it needs that stiffness to hold together.
It does however loosen a little.
@@OffTheBeatenPot thanks so much for replying - I have been practising, and I do see what you mean about the getting the knack of it, but perhaps I just don’t have much strength in my hands. My husband, who is much stronger, finds it far easier to unlock and lock the utensils - but I don’t always have a husband handy!
@@yvettewilliamselliott8851 I think as you slide out the metal multi tool you have to kinda squeeze it all together. Which seems counter intuitive.
@@OffTheBeatenPot Yes, I think you are right, but I can barely move it. I don’t know whether I am just a pathetic weakling or whether the set I have got fits together exceptionally tightly. I can usually manage to get it back together eventually but it is a struggle. However, if all else fails, I just stick an elastic band round the lot!
On offer for £14 in gooutdoors now great buy
Bargain!! And thanks for the heads up.
