This gives me so much hope for America and the Anglo-sphere. Truly a Divine Liturgy of immense and inspirational beauty! An elevation of the American soul towards transcendence!
No hay nada como los coros rusos, me gusta mucho escucharlos. Gracias por compartir, saludos desde Cañete Perú......Нет ничего похожего на русские хоры, мне очень нравится их слушать. Спасибо, что поделились, привет из Каньете Перу.
So beautiful, the music, the cathedral, everything. One thing though about the Orthodox liturgy, watching it makes me kinda anxious because it looks so chaotic..haha
It's not chaotic! There's a lot going on, but once you know where every piece of it is from and inspired by (scripture) you learn it very quickly and becomes extremely rich and meaningful
Just a note: at the liturgy, any person who is not baptized in Orthodox Church (most are, but sometimes catechumens are present or a member of another denomination watching the liturgy out of curiosity), must leave the church before Cherubic Hymn starts. This should not be shown as a public video.
@@heavenchord72 Yes, it is. At least with slavic orthodox churches. I don't know if others (I doubt though) have removed that exclamation (recited loudly by the priest) before the Cherubic Hymn has begun.
@@HickoryDickory86 haha. I don’t see why there is so much hate from this original commenter 😂. He’s commented on at least three of the liturgy videos. From a composing standpoint it is wonderful. All of the pieces follow his musical motif of the pentatonic scale. There’s incredible chord building as well as a very good usage of the oktavist in the written score (I have one haha). I think the main complaint might be that this is a liturgy and therefore must be a complete photocopy of Russian liturgies rather than an expression of the composer. If we look at Chesnokovs and Rachmaninov’s settings of the Liturgy of St John Chrysostom they are both very different from each other and are quite different sounding than even a normal Russian orthodox liturgy.

Careful in mistakingly worshiping the music in the place of worshipping God
Maestro Benedict is an inspiration for all orthodox composers of all non traditionally orthodox countries. Thank you. Merry Christmas!
In the Name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, Lord Jesus Christ our God, have mercy on us! Most holy Theotokos, save us!
Makes me cry every time. It's the sound of heaven. +
I'm moved to hear it. Release of the album is October 23! Pre-order here: cappellaromana.org/sheehanliturgy/
Yes it is. Christ is Risen!
Many years to His Beatitude Metropolitan Tikhon!!
Beautiful. Brought tears to my eyes.
So beautiful and peaceful and holy.
It’s so beautiful! Thank you. God bless you

Chills. Absolutely divine.
Bonjour et Dieu aide !
Que La Sainte Trinité nous protège à garder la Parole de Dieu sur la terre !
Beautiful
I’m crying
If one does not hear the roots of Bortiansky in Mr. Sheehan’s compositions one does not hear!
Amazing
Slava isusu Christu! By death He conquered death!
Amazing singing.
Not sure how I feel about cameras being in the altar.
Beautiful! Beyond this world! But, is this not a ROCOR church? The women in the choir have no head covering?!
I believe this is an OCA church.
@@S3n0rCardgagecorrect. This is Saint Nicholas Cathedral in Washington DC.
They really let the cameras into the altar?!?!
Who is the priest with the red topped vestment. He looks so familiar to me.
I think it’s Fr. John Parker. I recognize him from the All American in Baltimore
Offertory (prothesis) during Cherubic Hymn??? This should take much time...

This is a hierarchical service and a little more is happening because the Metropolitan is there.

This is not the practice anymore, anywhere. God bless you and have a blessed fast!
😯
That is not correct

I would appreciate that you think before you put down an inaccurate thing such as this one.

Lots of anti-miscegenation sympathizers in the comment section here.
Bortinanski cannot be improved upon. Compositions of musical settings for the Cherubikon should have ceased after Bortinanski.
Lol
Oh, really now? Mokranjac? Tschaikovsky?
Wherein lieth the beauty of this composition...? I hear it not.
Then you must be tone deaf
@@methodiosscott4564 Correction: Deaf of tone thou must be. 😂

It's the Divine Liturgy, where heaven meets earth. What's not beautiful about that?
Yea Verily I say unto thee... on second thoughts better not....
Awful
Why
It must burn you to listen to it
