    The new 2019 Gibson Double Cut DC Les Paul Junior Tribute model is a new take on a tried and true original design. These feature a single p90 pickup in the bridge with master volume and tone controls.
    I enjoyed my time with this guitar. It has that 'raw, broken-in feel' brand new, right out of the box!

    I knew before I even laid my hands on one of these they'd be great bare-bones rockers. I love this blue finish too!

    • @tiki2777
      @tiki2777 5 років тому

      I really like the concept of this modern DC junior, I'm just not a fan of satin finishes. I do like how they polish up over time! The first '19 dc jr I played however had some sharp frets which was disappointing, I'm hoping yours didnt have this issue
      However I am still much happier owning the 2018 maraschino cherry BJ les paul junior.
      The price point though..... damn it's appealing 🤣🤣🤣

    • @macaholic100
      @macaholic100 5 років тому +1

      @@tiki2777 I agree, the crappy matt finishes have to go. These would be nice Jr's for the price if Gibson would do what they should and apply a proper gloss finish. Traditional sunburst and TV yellow should be available as well. Lastly, Kluson delux tuners with the kestone knobs would be better for adult players because the white button tuners are too small.

      In your final thoughts you actually mentioned the P-100! I was getting the feeling the P-100 was forgotten, as I simply haven't heard of it in any video I watched since I watch guitar videos! It's a stack humbucker, this far I can remember from when I was soaking up the specs of Gibsons in the late 90s and easrly 2000s.
      Except you and me, no one else seems to know about the P-100.

    I got one a few weeks ago and it sounds so killer! I’m surprised at how so many commenters don’t like the stripped down vibe despite it being such a popular model this year. If you want the Gibson sound, you are going to need a Gibson, and you’re just going to have to deal with what comes with that.

  • @asparagusbear3323

    I think it's a great guitar for a new player. it forces them to work the vol and tone controls of the one pickup. once they mastered that, then get something with a second pickup. Too many of us are bad at controlling our tone through guitars controls.

    I bought one, same color and, for what it is, I'm very pleased. I had tuning stability problems initially but added a DP String Butler and the thing stays in tune now. Great neck. Sounds great clean or dirty and is lightweight. Has a great vibe. Everybody says Gibsons cost too much but everyone still wants to plays it, and likes it.

    After watching all of your videos on the Gibson 2019 models I chose to purchase this one. I was almost going to pull the trigger on the SG Mastero but after your videos I see it had the same problem staying in tune. I had the same issue with a 2015 SG Original 2 with a Mastero . I sold that because it never stayed in tune. Thanks for saving me money. Your demos are the best. Keep it up. Thank you.

    First, I love your channel and reviews. A few people are commenting on the amount of lemon oil. I didn't always care. That was until I was working on a '63 Jazzmaster with a dried out fret board. I thought I would let it soak, and sure enough (one person mentioned this already) the frets began to pop up all over the board. It was a nightmare. Odds are in your favor for a newer guitar like this. Just thought I would throw it out there in case it might help someone. Keep up the great work Troggers!

    Hey there!
    Do you know if the pickup is mounted at the same distance from the neck like a vintage DC Junior?
    It seems to be a bit further away eyeballing it.

    Have you ever tried formula one F1 fretboard oil? I used to use the dunlop oil but i went to F1 oil and its amazing! Lasts a very long time and a little goes a long way. Cleans and oils at the same time as most do. No lemon oil in it either all natural oils. Only down fall is it doesn't have the easy applicator like dunlop does, but you just put a little on a rag is all. Very nice review man i kinda want one of these DC's myself! Affordable too!

    last year I bought one of the special 2018 SGjr guitars and I LOVE IT !!! just a great great guitar
    its a bit fancier than these with a gloss finish and a case and its a pretty faithful reissue which this one is not but still the same hardware and a p90 very rocknroll so Gibson seems to be on a roll with the Jr's

    Would it be possible to fit a humbucker in place of that P90, or is the cavity too small for that?

    I’ve got an original from the old days I bought used and very dirty in a moms and pops in 1976. I used it only for a 1hr Rolling Stones set for years. I liked it so much I bought a reissue, and a 100th anniversary DC and the LP tribute bass. I used only fender jazz bass guitars but they’re retired and the Gibson bass is now my one and only. I love the Gibson bass more the Jazz basses.

    Bought one and love it...just want to change to locking tuners, any suggestions which ones will fit best or work with this guitar.

    • @montag4516
      @montag4516 4 роки тому +1

      There's plenty of choices that will stay extremely secure, no problem. As long as they fit your Gibson's holes correctly then I'd suggest getting whatever tuners you like the look of and that you think will look best on that guitar. Keep in mind to get a set that the screw holes match up with the current ones to avoid drilling additional holes. The different makers post their specs/measurements so you verify that before hand.

    Such a great playing and sounding guitar, it’s amazing. I’ve got standards, expensive guitars and this plays as good as any if not better. Single pickup is the best, tons of sustain. Great neck. Get one used, they’re cheap and it’ll surprise you.

      I replaced a few things on my Mexican Fender Tele. Brass saddles and a Ritchie Kotzen bridge pick up. It's now my favourite recording guitar.
      And I have 8 very expensive Gibson and Gretsch guitars.

    Would a dog-ear P90 be a drop in replacement for the stock pickup? A soapbar won’t work as a pickguard mount and I live to change pickups for no reason... ☺️

    ....but after pulling it apart and putting it back together you never said how it was set up from the factory. How much did you have to tweak the trussrod? How was the string height? Was the pickup height in the right spot? And how was the intonation with that wrap around bridge? Inquiring minds want to know!!

    I've owned a lot of guitars and this thing is awesome!! I got it used for $600 CND about $25 bucks American, just kidding like $520 USD, in closest queen condition. The thing is a little beast!!! What is amazing is how much you can achieve sonically from something this pared down!! Fit and finish is superb, fret edges not bad at all contrary to some of the Gibson trollers!!!

    • @TheBoomtown4
      @TheBoomtown4 Рік тому

      Yeah, I got mine for like 200 cdn and it’s one of the best playing guitars I’ve ever played. I’ve got 9 guitars, a goldtop standard with buckers and American pro tele, strats, explorer, couple fancy martins and when I grab this I instantly bond with it. These things are amazing tonally, super resonant, maybe to do with the less magnetic pull of 1 pickup? And the feel is amazing. The perfect neck and slim and light light. Balanced. I love this guitar.

    I actually like this guitar a lot . When I first saw the pickgaurd ,I was disappointed because it reminds me of my old Marauder's guard ,the visual aspect of that guitar that was not the best ! But , a P90, rosewood instead of paper mache , sorry , Richlite and that blue finish on the body & neck is just beautiful !

    I own one in this color and it is a fine guitar that looks and feels great in person. I also own a few higher end Gibson's and this one is one of my "go-to" live instruments when I gig. It just has a certain ‘mojo’ to it. Please try one out for yourselves...

    I have seen several guitar techs recommend holding the string out of the nut while doing initial string winding to reduce wear. Not a huge foul but for the number of beautiful guitars that come through your hands I have to at least suggest it.
