I just finished putting together my 3 ball arsenal. Prism Hybrid 20x4.5.20. Vintage Phantom 50x4.5x30. Uppercut 35.4.55. I bowl at 2 different houses with different oil/length layouts. I love all 3 .
Right now I have a Halo Solid and a Haywire, getting a IQ Tour Solid soon. I am lucky that I am close enough that BowlerX is my pro shop of choice for the past few years.
This is the very advice ive been looking for. All of my balls are 20+ years old. Im downsizing in ball weight. Im almost 60, have a hip going bad, and knees aren't in the best shape. So i have to rebuild my small arsenal from scratch. For my asymmetrical, im going with the new Hammer Effect. I will be adding a pearl, then either a solid or a hybrid. Not sure which ones yet. Im going to be working with my ball guy on choices this weekend.
I’m a left handed bowler. I’m comfortable with the black widow hammer but it’s not hooking. I’m looking to get a new arsenal. I never had a polish bowling ball. The lanes are med to heavy oily. I haven’t bowled since the pandemic hit. Any suggestions
My 3 ball is currently the Gravity Evolve, set up really strong for excess oil; the Hammer Web Tour as my benchmark ball; and the Hustle 3TP with a LONG third number and my usual 4.5" Pin to PAP so it is a lot smoother reading the lane than even I expected, but with the 3TP cover it's really clean through the fronts. With my plastic spare ball, it's a really great series of steps from incredibly strong to really soft but carries when played straighter. If the lanes dry out really badly, my plastic ball can go straight up the 5 board and make it to the pocket, because revs.
@bLaZe Nightfury It depends a lot more on how it's drilled than what it is. The coverstock will have intrinsic characteristics, but if it's drilled flat, it's going to roll flat. It also depends on what you mean by dry lanes. Are we talking about a prepped but short/light lane or a lane that hasn't been touched in days and had 3000 games with plastic balls run on it? Two very different animals. I still love my 3tp, and I keep it for niche scenarios because it's a pearl drilled very weak, but I find it a bit twitchy, to be honest. A symmetrical solid with a 4000 grit finish and a weaker drilling would probably fill it's spot better for a prepped but dry lane. What is your speed and Rev rate?
@@ArtosDeDraconum thank you but I bowl at night since I got classes in the morning and work. So when I come to the center they are fried with everything so I knew I needed to get something weaker. My speed is about 14-15 ish but rev is around 410 or so
My league balls- Brunswick twist, radical Counterattack,Brunswick rhino, and storm mix for spares or sometimes a strike ball. This arsenal works great on majority of all lanes I bowl on.
I love this video JR! I love storm equipment, so my best 3 ball arsenal would be the phaze3, all road, and tropical surge. That way I can get a variety of weak to strong bowling balls.
My six-ball arsenal is a Gravity Evolve, Phaze II, Hy-Road, Match Up Pearl, Fever Pitch, and Ice Spare. I built this all-new arsenal over the past year with the new USBC rules in mind - no weight holes. Instead of plugging 15 balls I've acquired over the years, I decided to wipe the slate clean and start fresh with all new equipment. I donated my old equipment to the local youth and high school bowling programs in my area. I think my arsenal is pretty good and covers the vast majority of any league or tournament conditions I'll encounter.
Motiv balls in the bag...Alpha Jackel for heavy oil or first game then on to the new Tank Blitz seems to do good the second and very good the third game. I hv a Rogue Assassin that I can use if needed.

currently I use the phase II and Hyroad X and need a ball thats more forgiving down lane, I was leaning towards urethane but with all the talk on urethane in the pba right now I’m not sure if I want to go that route anymore. Definitely gonna consider what you mentioned in the video and do some more research
Really depends on the house I bowl at, considering I live near and bowl at wildly varying centers. At center one, the lanes are medium friction, really slick but flat, and break down really quickly, so my arsenal for that is: 1: 900Global The Eagle USA 2: Storm !Q Emerald 3: Storm X-Factor Ace / 900Global Boost / RotoGrip Winner (depending on what I feel like) At center two it's a more "traditional" house shot that paradoxically restricts my otherwise niche balls, making my arsenal: 1: Storm Physix 2: Storm Code X 3: Storm Marvel Pearl And at center three, there's a thick oily sludge that makes my bowling balls retain all their energy, allowing me to really pick whatever I want, but I typically use: 1: 900Global Honey Badger Extreme Pearl 2: DV8 Creed Revelation 3: Storm SuperNatural My 6-ball tournament bag is relatively strong - full of stronger balls - which is something I need fix moving forward: 1: PhysiX 2: Code X 3: The Eagle USA 4: !Q Emerald 5: Marvel Pearl 6: X-Factor Ace
I have the Statement Solid, Black Widow Pink, and the Hustle HSB. I try have my arsenal with all 3 motions. Traction, Angular, and Continuous. I like Statement and the Pink on oily lanes but when it dries up I go with the Hustle.
I'm building my first 3 ball arsenal (with spare). I just got the Proton Physix to add with my Storm Trend and my Storm Ice spare ball. What other mid performance ball do you suggest I get? Thanks!
My house shot Arsenal is like this: Benchmark: GB3 black blue for my benchmark. Plenty strong and smooth to start out. When I lose pop on that ball, I have a Track Heat lava with crown compound on it. It kicks out the corners when that GB comes in flat. When I get pushed inside, I pull out my Phaze III with 2000 abralon and lane shine. When I have to play steeper angles, the thing just keeps charging back. If I go to another house, I bring something Asym, in case i run into some oil.... normally a Savage Life. It’s still clean enough up front but digs hard in the mids and still has plenty of pop left on the back. Also have a pin down hustle and a shined up urethane in case the heads are just scorched.
I use 2 strong balls being a Zing and a Crux Prime since I have a very high rev rate. My Zing and Crux do have different layouts which helps me in transitioning if I have to do so
Transitioning from one handed to two handed. Got some nice revs now that I never had. Got a White Dot plastic ball for my spares. A Hammer Raw for low to mid oily lanes. And that Hammer Ghost for oil and strong on the lanes.
JR my league balls are Hammer statement solid pin up, Hammer Black Widow Legend pin down, Hammer Pink widow pin up, Hammer Sling blade short pin. I use it for spares also. What do you think. Then I have others for tournaments also. Everything Hammer.
I need a couple balls that would compliment a cranker style bowler. I already have a 15# All-Road which I love. I throw around 16 mph with a 500-550 rev rate.
So I have a Black Widow Ghost, Storm Proton Physix, Blue Hammer Urethane, Ebonite V2. I’m just now getting into bowling but I think I have sort of a general idea of solid/pearl/urethane balls. Solids grab more oil, Pearls are for dryer lanes? Urethane pretty much cuts through the oil?
right now in my arsenal I have are the DV8 Outcast Citron black(13lbs), Danger Zone vintage (14lbs) and the green n black Twist (14lbs) and hopefully really soon getting a Vaper Zone Hybrid (14lbs)
I hadn't bowled league in 40yrs. I worked at Area51 (85-89)...i purchaed the UFO Alert, The Stealth...and just now added a 900 Global Eternity & Paragon Hybrid. The UFO was recently banned. Spare ball too. I went from a 170 last year (back surgery) to a 202 now. My friends & pro shop guys helped.
Can someone give me some advice? I currently bowl in a house with wooden lanes that tend to be on the lighter side of oil and break down extremely fast. I currently use the 900 Global Eon but after the first game it starts to over hook and falls flat leaving a lot of 10 pins. Someone recently recommended the hustle ink. Would this be a good step down ball for these conditions or should i look for something else?

Crypto, ball down to Bigfoot Hybrid (HK22 cover), ball down to Sneak Attack. All syms, for smooth continuous motion. Plus the Spy as spare ball. The theory is I change balls as lane conditions change so I can stay in my comfort zone and keep standing on 3rd arrow, throwing at 2nd arrow, crossing 10ish boards to get a decent angle into the pocket and another few boards of continuation chewing thru the pin deck.

I currently use a Jagged edge hybrid as a benchmark and my hyroad nano as a condition based ball. I’m not really sure where to go from here. I’m thinking of getting an Astro physix as my main strike ball but I’m not sure. I’m more revs than anything probably in the 4-500 range. What should be my next step
im choosing between the UFO and the nuclear for my strong piece and i like that kick quick response to friction at the end but would that be a good choice for the heavier conditions. i dont bowl in league or tounament for now but the house shots are not always the same. sometimes they are dry but alot of times they are heavy. i really like the cells ive heard really good things about em but the UFO is a real strong ball that is ideal for heavy. my question is, is it good to choose the nuclear cell over the UFO on heavy oil? or another that is strong that im looking at is the crux prime.
Does this also applies to straight bowlers as well? I just started bowling and I'm new to all of this. What 3 bowling balls would you recommend for someone like me that's a straight bowler?
Hammer web tour for high end, dream on with a strong lay out at 4000 for medium, and wipe out with a weak layout for low end... Ive gone through alot of different bags and this is by far my favorite ive had in a while... I also alwayd have a urethane with me
I have a two ball arsenal that I can make into three by adding another ball to have a Rotogrip Eternal Cell and a Brunswick Power-groove with little to no turn and wanted to figure out if there’s a third ball that I needed to add to the arsenal? Or can I just leave it on two.
I have a Brunswick Rhino for my Reactive/Mid-Performance & a TZone for my spare ball. What would be a good idea for a 3rd higher performance ball, that would do better on more heavily oiled lanes? My Rhino is better on lesser oiled lanes.
A Rhino is going to be a huge jump from a strong high performance asym or symmetrical ball. Maybe go with something like a mid-performance solid. I'm not familiar with the Brunswick lineup but you can't go wrong with an iQ tour or Hy-road. They'll be able to handle a lot more oil than a Rhino while being controllable off the dry.
I use my rino for spare ball and dryer lanes. The prism warp hybrid is an awesome ball, I like better than the hyroad, which is saying something , I also like the venom shock. There is a ton of great balls out there.

Thoughts on actually balling “up” on house shots for later games? Mo and Kegel both recommend it for playing house shots with a lake in the middle when you move left. I’ve been having some success with it, it’s dependent on how the lanes break down of course but might be wiser than starting with a strong ball (unless your house lays a lot of oil).
My house shot is pretty heavy upfront, but cliffs off hard in the back, and I've found starting with my middle ball inside a bit further than typical, in where I need to start, instead of starting with my strongest ball, but as I move left it hits that lake and starts to under-react on me, and moving back right causes it to over-react, then I ball up and play through the lake and it's been working really well for me.
I definitely go to the strongest ball in my bag when I have to move inside. But my strongest on house is the phaze III, so it’s got plenty of downlane move while I made some surface adjustments to make it dig through the heads a little bit.
I am going to be building a 3 ball arsenal over the summer for collegiate bowling tournaments. Is it worth replacing my Columbia 300 Piranha with something new? The ball is from 1993, but has been resurfaced and treated me pretty well so far. From its day, it was a very strong ball but probably would sit in the mid performance tier compared to newer balls. Right now it is the only ball I use and I still hold a 150 average in my first season bowling, but I am not sure if it is something worth keeping long term.
Also, I only bow on the occasion, but I may start bowling more having said that I am not a guy who’s gonna be bowling leagues or professionally anytime soon in my lifetime but I just wanna get better just a regular every day person. I’m sorry if I do not know these terminologies by no means but having said that for me, if I would get myself a custom bowling ball I just want something I can throw the ball straight down the middle accurately but of course I have to improve a lot of my technique and consistency matters. I do not understand how oil patterns work and all that good stuff I would be open to learning how to hook the ball but that’s not my first priority by no means. To me in your opinion if you had to have only one ball for the sake of versatility and that’s it what would it be and why? Thank you. Take care and God bless you.

i currently have my most agressive ball as the nuclear cell, then the weaker ball in the electrify hybrid, and a spare ball but could i have a more agressive piece that is a dull ball for the heavier oil or should i use the nuclear cell for the heavier parts then if its burning up too early then go to a phaze 3 or something would that work? or would i get say the gravity evolve then the nuclear cell then maybe a phaze 3 then the hybrid how does that sound? or what about the wild streak. im ultimately turning towards a 4 ball arsenal when everything is done with and ill be back in league and going to tournaments. im just trying to get possible options for my last piece.
Coverstocks do matter a pearl and a solid react different to the oil on the lanes and a urethane ball pushes the oil compared to others that soak up the oil
Been bowling for 1.5years now in league and have 12balls but league arsenal is global900reality parallel effect trend 2 and the zen with purple hammer as spare ball or if lanes act up
Love this vid as it speaks to me. For league I roll an idol pro 5x30 and hustle ink 5x30. I also have a idol pearl at 5x30 for down and in. Was thinking about getting a match up pearl at 5x60. @@jonmarley_5324 It certainly could be. I'd say unless you're speed dominant or throwing over 16mph in general, it's probably fine. If you find yourself throwing through a lake and looking for more pop of the back-end, then upgrading might be helpful. I tell everyone, don't buy new balls just because something new came out. Buy a ball to replace an old one that's not serving you well, or if you find a hole in your game that you need to fill.
Best 3 ball Arsenal is 900 global volatility (lots of hook and made for heavy oil), track tactix (solid and very predictable benchmark ball), and a Columbia 300 white dot (spare ball)

Haven’t drilled them up yet but I have the Motive Forge Fire, Columbia 300 Baller and picking up the the Hammer Redemption Solid

Brunswick gold rhino, Special edition brunswick kingpin and Storm fever pitch is what I throw. But will be adding a Monster Lochness in a few weeks.

I hadn't bowled league in 40yrs. I worked at Area51 (85-89)...i purchaed the UFO Alert, The Stealth...and just now added a 900 Global Eternity & Paragon Hybrid. The UFO was recently banned. Spare ball too. I went from a 170 last year (back surgery) to a 202 now. My friends & pro shop guys helped.

Can someone give me some advice? I currently bowl in a house with wooden lanes that tend to be on the lighter side of oil and break down extremely fast. I currently use the 900 Global Eon but after the first game it starts to over hook and falls flat leaving a lot of 10 pins. Someone recently recommended the hustle ink. Would this be a good step down ball for these conditions or should i look for something else?
What is the difference between a polished reactive solid asymmetrical well-used-older high performance ball and a polished reactive solid asymmetrical new mid range ball?

Crypto, ball down to Bigfoot Hybrid (HK22 cover), ball down to Sneak Attack. All syms, for smooth continuous motion. Plus the Spy as spare ball. The theory is I change balls as lane conditions change so I can stay in my comfort zone and keep standing on 3rd arrow, throwing at 2nd arrow, crossing 10ish boards to get a decent angle into the pocket and another few boards of continuation chewing thru the pin deck.

I currently use a Jagged edge hybrid as a benchmark and my hyroad nano as a condition based ball. I’m not really sure where to go from here. I’m thinking of getting an Astro physix as my main strike ball but I’m not sure. I’m more revs than anything probably in the 4-500 range. What should be my next step
im choosing between the UFO and the nuclear for my strong piece and i like that kick quick response to friction at the end but would that be a good choice for the heavier conditions. i dont bowl in league or tounament for now but the house shots are not always the same. sometimes they are dry but alot of times they are heavy. i really like the cells ive heard really good things about em but the UFO is a real strong ball that is ideal for heavy. my question is, is it good to choose the nuclear cell over the UFO on heavy oil? or another that is strong that im looking at is the crux prime.
Does this also applies to straight bowlers as well? I just started bowling and I'm new to all of this. What 3 bowling balls would you recommend for someone like me that's a straight bowler?
If you throw straight, any plastic ball would be fine. Any of these balls above the plastic (spare) ball would be an absolute waste of money for you.
My 3 as of late is red Pulse, contender, and either Reaction Rip or the Benchmark
Hammer web tour for high end, dream on with a strong lay out at 4000 for medium, and wipe out with a weak layout for low end... Ive gone through alot of different bags and this is by far my favorite ive had in a while... I also alwayd have a urethane with me
I have a two ball arsenal that I can make into three by adding another ball to have a Rotogrip Eternal Cell and a Brunswick Power-groove with little to no turn and wanted to figure out if there’s a third ball that I needed to add to the arsenal? Or can I just leave it on two.
My three ball arsenal right now is a Brunswick method solid, phaze 3, and motiv hydra.

I have a Brunswick Rhino for my Reactive/Mid-Performance & a TZone for my spare ball. What would be a good idea for a 3rd higher performance ball, that would do better on more heavily oiled lanes? My Rhino is better on lesser oiled lanes.
A Rhino is going to be a huge jump from a strong high performance asym or symmetrical ball. Maybe go with something like a mid-performance solid. I'm not familiar with the Brunswick lineup but you can't go wrong with an iQ tour or Hy-road. They'll be able to handle a lot more oil than a Rhino while being controllable off the dry.
I use my rino for spare ball and dryer lanes. The prism warp hybrid is an awesome ball, I like better than the hyroad, which is saying something , I also like the venom shock. There is a ton of great balls out there.

Im looking at building a 3 ball arsenal. I've got a white dot (plastic) and a Hy road original. Looking for something that can really chew through the oil but not be too jumpy when it hits friction. Any suggestions?
I'm getting back in the game after 40+ years off. I have a 40+yr. old urethane hammer I will use as my spare ball. Im thinking phase II then not sure what else? Maybe Reality & Hammer RAW? Any help? I'm 65

Thoughts on actually balling “up” on house shots for later games? Mo and Kegel both recommend it for playing house shots with a lake in the middle when you move left. I’ve been having some success with it, it’s dependent on how the lanes break down of course but might be wiser than starting with a strong ball (unless your house lays a lot of oil).
My house shot is pretty heavy upfront, but cliffs off hard in the back, and I've found starting with my middle ball inside a bit further than typical, in where I need to start, instead of starting with my strongest ball, but as I move left it hits that lake and starts to under-react on me, and moving back right causes it to over-react, then I ball up and play through the lake and it's been working really well for me.
I definitely go to the strongest ball in my bag when I have to move inside. But my strongest on house is the phaze III, so it’s got plenty of downlane move while I made some surface adjustments to make it dig through the heads a little bit.
I am going to be building a 3 ball arsenal over the summer for collegiate bowling tournaments. Is it worth replacing my Columbia 300 Piranha with something new? The ball is from 1993, but has been resurfaced and treated me pretty well so far. From its day, it was a very strong ball but probably would sit in the mid performance tier compared to newer balls. Right now it is the only ball I use and I still hold a 150 average in my first season bowling, but I am not sure if it is something worth keeping long term.

Also, I only bow on the occasion, but I may start bowling more having said that I am not a guy who’s gonna be bowling leagues or professionally anytime soon in my lifetime but I just wanna get better just a regular every day person. I’m sorry if I do not know these terminologies by no means but having said that for me, if I would get myself a custom bowling ball I just want something I can throw the ball straight down the middle accurately but of course I have to improve a lot of my technique and consistency matters. I do not understand how oil patterns work and all that good stuff I would be open to learning how to hook the ball but that’s not my first priority by no means. To me in your opinion if you had to have only one ball for the sake of versatility and that’s it what would it be and why? Thank you. Take care and God bless you.
Love your videoes JR , they are so very helpful , right now I’m working with a Gem out of the chute with a Hyroad max that I’ve shined up to follow it ( if needed) and then a purple Hammer for spares and if I get in a spot I need a ball that doesn’t hook too much. I’m considering adding a Zen , pin down , what are your thoughts on that?

i currently have my most agressive ball as the nuclear cell, then the weaker ball in the electrify hybrid, and a spare ball but could i have a more agressive piece that is a dull ball for the heavier oil or should i use the nuclear cell for the heavier parts then if its burning up too early then go to a phaze 3 or something would that work? or would i get say the gravity evolve then the nuclear cell then maybe a phaze 3 then the hybrid how does that sound? or what about the wild streak. im ultimately turning towards a 4 ball arsenal when everything is done with and ill be back in league and going to tournaments. im just trying to get possible options for my last piece.

Does it really matter what the coverstock is for each ball, should I just go by the numbers like in your other video to build my arsenal?
Coverstocks do matter a pearl and a solid react different to the oil on the lanes and a urethane ball pushes the oil compared to others that soak up the oil

Love this vid as it speaks to me. For league I roll an idol pro 5x30 and hustle ink 5x30. I also have a idol pearl at 5x30 for down and in. Was thinking about getting a match up pearl at 5x60. What do you think? Do you consider the idol pro a big strong ball or medium ? Love your content. Please let me know
Idol pro came out as a medium-strong ball, but compared to the Gravity Evolve or UFO it's really not as strong comparatively as when it came out.
Robert Raschke agreed, but per the video and it being a “league” set up would it be a strong enough 1 ball.
@@jonmarley_5324 It certainly could be. I'd say unless you're speed dominant or throwing over 16mph in general, it's probably fine. If you find yourself throwing through a lake and looking for more pop of the back-end, then upgrading might be helpful.
I tell everyone, don't buy new balls just because something new came out. Buy a ball to replace an old one that's not serving you well, or if you find a hole in your game that you need to fill.
