A playthrough of Map17 of Doom II (Tenements) on the Ultra-Violence difficulty for the PC. This is played through ZDoom. 100% kills, 100% items, and 100% secrets.
you shouldn't be afraid of making dirty jokes, most of us probability love it but I get why you might want to keep it clean, makes the moments when you do make dirty jokes all the more funny and surprising.
That was like the best "That's what she said" joke I've ever heard, I had a good laugh at ti :-D That red torch is not the switch, what you're actually suppose to normally do is hop down into the poison, press the switch on the platform which will lower the platform and reveal a switch below the torch.
I'm glad you enjoyed. And yeah, about that switch... to me, it's just much easier to flip the wall under the torch than it is to take unnecessary damage from the stupid poison all around you. It's one of the reasons I don't like the map.
Yeah, none of the switches you press on this map are really hidden. You're simply pressing them from positions where they can't be seen. Which is safer if you already know you're there. But if you don't know, you'll still find them. I mean... I did. Before watching this.
I really must give you thumbs up for these walkthroughs...using your methods I very rarely loose energy at least not in any significant amount & although I played the original doom as a teen I never played Doom 2 (I know, shame on me) so to be able to do it this "easy" in 1st playthrough would be impossible without these walkthroughs, really awesome work :)
Your narration is everything. I'm a big fan for many years. Now that brutal doom had an update and i can play it in 4K i just have the best time playing all the levels from the start. It's like a whole new game and so much more difficult.
I feel like a lot of these backtracking secrets were intended for the first time you discover them. They'd kinda give you that sense of "wow, I'm all the way over here!?" Unfortunately, that tends to wear off over time.
Your commentary is concise and very infomative. I watched all your vids on doom 2 up to now and will watch the rest. Its a shame the shooters today focus on gimmicks rather than pure gameplay. Good stuff
I've discovered this channel on this video. I was amazed at how well is explained, and it's a REAL walkthough too, unlike others. I wish that some day you could make other cool mods, like Alien Vendetta or Plutonia 2 :D
Just got back into Doom 2 after not playing this game since I was a kid. Love your walk throughs, a suggestion for the Arachnatron could be to shoot it with the super shotgun right at the beginning of the room. Using the ledge as a shield and go back when he is too close. But awesome job ***** :)
Still laughing on "that's what she said" and the reaction after. And Idk how often I've seen that video now. That was so out of your soul. Always a pleasure 😁
I swear some of these levels were made by a sadist. The level designs are intelligently made and some of the best around but some levels are incredibly frustrating. I have had to use two of your walkthroughs for help so far. So thank you!
What to say here. Some things I never seen before. You telefragged lost souls, amazing. Got shot through the chainsaw, ouch. I also hated where the Arachnatron was placed too, took alot of my health away when I played this map a few years ago. Megasphere! Good job BigMacDavis.
Thank you very much 4 that 'Walkthrough' of Map 17 bec I got sooo f****** frustrated with that one LOL I try to finish the Level since 3 Days now! Yesterday I killed mostly all the Monsters & Demons and it got very quiet and boring after that as you can imagine :( I simply wanted to get out fast and couldn't find the EXIT ... Really loving Doom 2 but not that Map!!! So thanks again and if I get stuck somewhere once more I use your Videos for help ;) Regards, Vanessa (a german Doom Fan)
Although this map is not Romero's best (obviously), I will admit that I love that detail with the imps placed on those ledges with the pillars, it's kind of reminiscent of Wolf 3D's E5L2 placement of the SS on both sides of barrels in that one room (albeit the imp trap is nowhere NEAR as dangerous, thank goodness). But...certainly something redeemable in this for sure.
I finally got doom 2 thanks to steam as a package deal with doom 1 or well doom 95. I played doom 1 when i was younger and never got the chance to play doom 2 so i finally get to and i have watched the walk throughs and they help when i get stuck. So thanks
Man, that map is a pain in the you-know-what, but at least "The Healer Stalks" still plays in the background. Still cool, even though the Cacodemon attacks you from behind while you're commenting, which is never a good thing. Oh, and the funny "That's what she said!" comment. :D Still, nice vid! :)
Every map: difficult and full of monsters who can kill you. This map: A switch, and another one! and another one! and another one! A N D A N O T H E R O N E
Dude, you are awesome. I have an idea for an episode. How about making a video about comparing how much ammo(of each type) it takes to defeat Doom enemies?
Good map to die at least for me lol Very good one again with lots of infos i didn't knew like the 30s wall delay and the teleporters of the red key area. I played this map often and i never noticed the teleporters. Also the hidden switch that leads to a secret leading to where the chaingunners were. But now i know thanks to you :) Keep it up my friend it's always a fun to watch your videos :) Till next time take care :)
On the ultra violence plus difficulty, there is a cyberdemon standing next to the orange door..I am at the end of this map, just gotta find a few more items and the last secret and I am on to map 18 on UV+…it’s been difficult getting through these maps..love ya BMD been re-watching some of your old doom 2 videos..Think you know a game untill you get into it and forget we’re some secrets and items are lol..
Is it just me or have I seen you do this map before? I seem to remember seeing you play this one (or a similar map) before? Perhaps I'm thinking of another video?
With that silver teleporter in the red key room, if you take it right when the enemies open up (and i think even before), you can telefrag a cacodemon, with some more enemies just WAITING for your BFG9000.
"That's what she said" Lol. But your reaction is even better. Anyway, decent map but not my favorite. And about Map 18... I remember playing it as a kid that there was a bug that, idk, didn't let me opening the first door and I had the blue key inside the room so I just had to take it and exit or something like that... Maybe my memory is playing tricks to me but I kind of remember something like that.
According to AltimaMantoid this level has no shortcuts for speedrunners, and the Compet-N database reflects this. In every category (I think) this level is the longest to do including a whopping 41:38 for the UV pacifist run - and that was the attempt that was legal
I agree with BigMacDavis that this map is quite tedious to play, but I think it was well designed to look like tenements. As a guy who lives in Sao Paulo/Brazil, where there are many favelas spread around, it makes a bit of sense the areas in this map being connected as this is exactly what happens in these communities with houses on top of each other connected by lots of thin passageways, which can be confusing for who doesn't know the area and they may really backtrack to go to a specific place or get out of there. Also, the red key area reminds me of the open sewers exposed in some favelas here, so I give some credit for the design of this map.
I love this map. The layout, the secret passages. My opinion of it is much different. I thoroughly enjoyed it. The end is a bit.. odd.. but i love the layout
These walkthroughs are great. I havent had any trouble other than these last few levels are a little cryptic, like touching the torch to reach the blue key.
9:30 Before I found the ledge overlooking his lava pit I found out you can run to one side the arachnotron's pit to draw him there (make sure you have his attention when he tries to zap you), then quickly run to the other side and if I could see him across the pit BFG him.
Everyone loved your naughty joke, judging by the comments! So did I! I nearly choked on the yogurt I was eating while watching this. XD No, no, don't apologize. Keep them coming. :P
I'm not overly fond of this map either, although the addition of the Cyberdemon in multiplayer makes its a bit more exciting! I love the Courtyard, looking forward to it! (Also I laughed at your joke, no need to apologize for it ;) )
I overshot the health bonus you picked up at 8:55 and had to back track to find the item I missed lol oops I'd be lost getting 100% without your help man, especially on this tedious map, definitely not one of my favorites either
Ah yes. The top of the stair gunners. The first time I played this map they shot me to pieces. Just goes to show you how dangerous a chaingunner is. So who'd win? A shustaffel or a chaingunner?
2:17 hahahhahaha I almost spit out the water, I didn't expect a comment like that, I loved it, not long ago I finished watching The Office for the first time.
I'm probably the only one who likes this map. Especially the part at the end where you have to go from alcove to alcove killing those enemies, like you said, it brings some sort of "rush" feel when you're chainsaw-ing those enemies down. It may be tedious, but it's somewhat fun. The map is pretty good too, it seems pretty claustrophobic at times though. It's just crazy.
Love your reaction, when you said "That's what she said"
It was completely weird. And unintentional.
+BigMacDavis haha sure it was ;)
+BigMacDavis It was funny though
you shouldn't be afraid of making dirty jokes, most of us probability love it but I get why you might want to keep it clean, makes the moments when you do make dirty jokes all the more funny and surprising.
Whether we like it or not, it I should pure instinct to all of us
Your videos are what I call "intelligent LPs" but "that's what she said" was a welcome change LOL 2:17
Haha, thank you.
7 year old comment wow
well said ;D
i cried laughing at "thats what she said" and even more at the apology afterwards just because it was so unintentional
This Game Is Very Addicting
Once I watched only one of your walkthroughs, I knew I was only gonna need YOU for my Doom II maps. This was super helpful! Thanks.
Thanks. I do try to explain everything, even if it's trivial, and set myself apart from the others. :)
I hope she never tells me to look inside both holes
why not
🤣🤣🤣🤣
Your walkthroughs for DOOM are badass. Thanks man. Got me through the level.
So glad to hear the videos helped you. :)
Yeah, I know, I also flip it from above than take damage from poison.
Yeah, it's much better that way.
Yeah, none of the switches you press on this map are really hidden. You're simply pressing them from positions where they can't be seen. Which is safer if you already know you're there. But if you don't know, you'll still find them. I mean... I did. Before watching this.
I like your commentary. You are informative and don't try to be too funny, a rarity.
2:20 "Thats what she said" hahaha. Your humor makes your videos so fun and enjoyable. haha
Haha, I'm glad you enjoyed, my friend. It just had to be said.
Came here from the Steam guide to show approval of the "that's what she said" XD
I really appreciate how articulate and descriptive you are. Thanks for this!
Your narration is everything. I'm a big fan for many years. Now that brutal doom had an update and i can play it in 4K i just have the best time playing all the levels from the start. It's like a whole new game and so much more difficult.
Thanks for your good guides BigMacDavis. They made my playthrough really comfortable :3
I feel like a lot of these backtracking secrets were intended for the first time you discover them. They'd kinda give you that sense of "wow, I'm all the way over here!?" Unfortunately, that tends to wear off over time.
+Alexstrazsa my thoughts exactly! I think all those elements are lost when you play it too much
Very helpful. Thank you so much! I really enjoyed your walkthrough.
I wish that some day you could make other cool mods, like Alien Vendetta or Plutonia 2 :D
thanks for these great walkthroughs. really appreciated!
Your walkthroughs are super helpful so thanks
'Make sure to look in both holes' okay fine. 'Thats what she said' Jefferson Davis you magnificent person, took the words out of my very mouth!
Took the words out of your mouth, huh? Well then, I guess you and I think alike. ;)
watched all the series, it was great playing man. thanx
BigMacDavis thank u for making doom 2 easier for me with your 100% walkthrough your my guild master.
"That's what she said" haha I did not expect that (although I was thinking it lol)
Expect the unexpected when you're around me. ;)
I swear some of these levels were made by a sadist. The level designs are intelligently made and some of the best around but some levels are incredibly frustrating. I have had to use two of your walkthroughs for help so far. So thank you!
I love your channel. It's like Patrick Bateman is talking me through Doom.
dude Mac you got me though a few doom 2 levels last summer!
What to say here. Some things I never seen before. You telefragged lost souls, amazing. Got shot through the chainsaw, ouch. I also hated where the Arachnatron was placed too, took alot of my health away when I played this map a few years ago. Megasphere! Good job BigMacDavis.
That was kind of humorous to see the Shotgunner shoot me through the Chainsaw attack. It was weird.
Thank you very much 4 that 'Walkthrough' of Map 17 bec I got sooo f****** frustrated with that one LOL I try to finish the Level since 3 Days now! Yesterday I killed mostly all the Monsters & Demons and it got very quiet and boring after that as you can imagine :(
I simply wanted to get out fast and couldn't find the EXIT ... Really loving Doom 2 but not that Map!!! So thanks again and if I get stuck somewhere once more I use your Videos for help ;) Regards, Vanessa (a german Doom Fan)
Dude, you are a godsend. I was wracking my brain about how to get that megasphere.
"That's what she said". Saying what ever damn thing pops up in your mind. That's why I love you.
There are some things I keep inside my head, but sometimes, yes, things like that slip out. And I guess it's funny, lol.
"Make sure you look inside both holes... that's what she said" 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Wow ... that map sure was a pain. Thanks for uploading the vid, got stuck on this one :)
I can't believe I'm playing the game in 2021 and this video is like 7 years old. Wow. But thank you so much for the tips and secrets. Appreciate it. 🙂
That's so good to see you're actually playing the vanilla version of this.
"...It's not dangerous if you are prepare....WOW, WOW!"
Thank you!! Tenements is a hard map for me when i was started praying doom 2 for the first time!!
Finshed the three games, weeks ago but i keep coming back to these playthrough videos and i don't know why.
Haha, hey, my friend, glad you're enjoying! :D
Thanks to you I've been able to find the exit.
Ahhh your videos are sooo amazing!
That's what she said looool
The chainsawing of the Pain Elementals is very satisfying ;)
Never realized those teleporters were in the pit. That's going to be helpful.
Indeed. They really help out a lot.
2:24 God damn man you made me nearly laugh my head off xD
I finally got doom 2 thanks to steam as a package deal with doom 1 or well doom 95. I played doom 1 when i was younger and never got the chance to play doom 2 so i finally get to and i have watched the walk throughs and they help when i get stuck. So thanks
Just like everyone else the "that's what she said" was hilarious, caught me totally off guard .
So incredibly helpful. Those cacodemons can do some major damage
Indeed. It can get very tricky.
One of my favorite Doom II maps, it has a very Doom1-Inferno-like quality.
5:38 ...without a walkthrough how the HELL is anyone supposed to know to press a random wall...... THANK YOU for this video!
I use the brutality mod and I'm completely saved by this video, ty :D
Man, that map is a pain in the you-know-what, but at least "The Healer Stalks" still plays in the background. Still cool, even though the Cacodemon attacks you from behind while you're commenting, which is never a good thing. Oh, and the funny "That's what she said!" comment. :D Still, nice vid! :)
I like your gameplay with comments !
Ahhh thanks! Helpful and entertaining
"That was not intentional.." That's what she said! 😂😂😂
Every map: difficult and full of monsters who can kill you.
This map: A switch, and another one! and another one! and another one! A N D A N O T H E R O N E
That’s what she said - was good to hear you laugh
Dude, you are awesome. I have an idea for an episode. How about making a video about comparing how much ammo(of each type) it takes to defeat Doom enemies?
Good map to die at least for me lol

Keep it up my friend it's always a fun to watch your videos :) Till next time take care :)
Thank you. I'm glad I can offer some extra information about the game. It's what I always strive to do. :)
Thank you so much bro, you save me 👌🏼
I'm a 33 year old woman. I YEETED AND SCREAMED at 'that's what she said.'
Hey. Same age as me.
Is it just me or have I seen you do this map before? I seem to remember seeing you play this one (or a similar map) before? Perhaps I'm thinking of another video?
I don't think I've ever done this map in any way in a video before.
Cracking yourself up while recording is the greatest thing.
Lol, yes. And then having to return to playing with a straight face.
Thank you, youre a really cool guy!
I was stuck at around 230 health and armor like wtf. Thanks man!
With that silver teleporter in the red key room, if you take it right when the enemies open up (and i think even before), you can telefrag a cacodemon, with some more enemies just WAITING for your BFG9000.
Also, haven't seen Arachnatrons for a while, they are way to uncommon.
Hmm, I'll have to look at this map and see if I can find this glitch. Thanks for telling me about it. :)
According to AltimaMantoid this level has no shortcuts for speedrunners, and the Compet-N database reflects this. In every category (I think) this level is the longest to do including a whopping 41:38 for the UV pacifist run - and that was the attempt that was legal
So speedrunners are forced to backtrack and take all the paths. And 41:38 for a UV-Pacifist is a long time. Then again, that would be hard to do.
Thanks for the help
Thank you! Had done everything but the hidden doors
@ 2:18 classic , BMD !!
Ok, now I know what to do thanks Davis
I agree with BigMacDavis that this map is quite tedious to play, but I think it was well designed to look like tenements. I love this map. The layout, the secret passages. My opinion of it is much different. I thoroughly enjoyed it. The end is a bit.. odd.. but i love the layout
I agree, for me personally Romero's and McGee's maps are the best. Petersen's are very uneven.
These walkthroughs are great. I havent had any trouble other than these last few levels are a little cryptic, like touching the torch to reach the blue key.
Glad these videos help. Yeah, these maps can be confusing.
@@BigMacDavis yeah huge help bro. Finally made it to hell and now its WAY easier, that and im getting used to the secrets lol
Thats what she said! Love it! Good one man
9:30 Before I found the ledge overlooking his lava pit I found out you can run to one side the arachnotron's pit to draw him there (make sure you have his attention when he tries to zap you), then quickly run to the other side and if I could see him across the pit BFG him.
came back to these video's for some good doom killing and good commentary. Was not disappointed. 2:15
So much backtracking and switch pressing in this map! I laughed at the That's what she said part a lot! Nice joke there!
Gotta check both holes! ;)
Thank you, my friend, I'm glad my humor is accepted, lol.
***** Sure, a little bit in the future.
look inside both holes.. xD
Never apologize for awesomeness lol
Lol it was hilarious. No apology needed. 👍🏼
I fucking lost it "Just make sure you look inside both holes.Thats what she said" lol
Dude you're battling demons from hell on mars I think the world can handle a that's what she said joke.
Everyone loved your naughty joke, judging by the comments! So did I! I nearly choked on the yogurt I was eating while watching this. XD No, no, don't apologize. Keep them coming. :P
Aw man the yellow door was right there! I woulda never found it
2:16 I was not expecting a “that’s what she said” joke, especially not in the narrator voice 😂
I'm not overly fond of this map either, although the addition of the Cyberdemon in multiplayer makes its a bit more exciting!
I love the Courtyard, looking forward to it!
(Also I laughed at your joke, no need to apologize for it ;) )
I love The Courtyard as well, I hope you enjoy it. And thanks, my humor can sometimes be weird, but I'm glad people can enjoy it, lol. ;)
Weird humour is the best humour :D
Hey, I will agree with you there. :D
I overshot the health bonus you picked up at 8:55 and had to back track to find the item I missed lol oops I'd be lost getting 100% without your help man, especially on this tedious map, definitely not one of my favorites either
"Thats what she said"
-BigMacDavis
"I apologize for that. That was not intentional". That's what I said.
Ah yes. The top of the stair gunners. The first time I played this map they shot me to pieces. Just goes to show you how dangerous a chaingunner is. So who'd win? A shustaffel or a chaingunner?
That would depend on who fired at who first.
2:17 hahahhahaha
I almost spit out the water, I didn't expect a comment like that, I loved it, not long ago I finished watching The Office for the first time.
Wasnt frustrated at this map but i kept overlooking the exit... Because i was looking at the map n thought i had more to explore
If you find this map good, all the more power to you, my friend. I will agree that I like the claustrophobic nature of this map. :)
Just in case you got confused, I wasn't implying that you said it brings some sort of "rush" feel. I could have worded that better. :p
What you said was perfectly fine, my friend. :)
That part at the end where you have to go in and out of the hallways to open more passages was stupid.
5:19 "Its not that dangerous, if you are prep... WHOWOOO"
But of course, right? :D
