LIVE Guitar Cover - The RAMONES in Chicago, 1979 - 7 Songs

- While I wait on my new guitar, here's one last video with my custom strat. Playing along to the Ramones live in Chicago (10/13/1979), with the band recording mixed primarily into the left speaker and my guitar mixed primarily into the right speaker. This recording features some blistering tempos and a few songs that won't be in the It's Alive guitar cover! The guitar is a customized strat with a Hallmark "The '67" Mosrite-style pickup, and the amp is the Softube Marshall JMP 2203. Thanks for watching!

I’m still sure your Johnny Ramones reincarnation 😊👌
I’m going to have to put that “I’m not Johnny Ramone” shirt back on, lol
I have to agree with you on that!!! This dude is the best!!!
@@HardlyRamone wear a leather jacket too 😊👍
@@HardlyRamone You’re not fooling anyone with that “I’m not Johnny Ramone “ t shirt. 🤣🤣🤣👍🎸👋
Hardly Commando ❤❤ !!!
GO GO Hardly Ramoneeeeeeeeeeeeeee
I’ve been a Ramone since 1978 and I’ve seen many attempting imitation. You my friend are one chroma zone away from the real deal. So enjoyed watching this plus I haven’t heard this live concert. Thought it was going to be New York 79’ actually. Go Mental!
Thank you!
WOW man you kick so much ass !!! I love watching you play you got the downstroke technique down to the T!!! Our uncle Johnny would be so proud of you like we are keep rocking out brother. The guitar sounds amazing what a tone GABBA GABBA HEY!!!
Santo cielo ¡¡¡ he aquí el espíritu de Jhonny y The Ramones , maravilloso trabajo 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Fucking excellent. Blistering is the right word too. By the late 80's they were a shadow of themselves but the first 5 years, they were untouchable. Those live vocal delays on Joey & Dee Dee got dropped by the mid eighties but they were perfect to add to the insanity of earlier live Ramones. Great job. Damn I miss those guys.
Yeah sadly in 1981-1982 Johnny changed his guitar style for the faster songs. The tempos just got too fast to play the original way. He kept the downstrokes, but used far more broken up strum patterns that didn’t vary much from song to song. Dee Dee also slowly lost interest in the band through the 80s.
I like some stuff from that era a lot, but the ferocity and power of the 70’s takes the cake for me. Some of their 1980 shows carry over that 1979 sound, too.
right hand is so fast, that the camera can't even properly catch the movement. you really are the best ramones cover guitarist here on youtube! even the poses, the pogoing etc. totally Johnny!
Ha yeah you’re right. If you select slow mo playback you can kinda see when the strums are landing, but the camera does struggle to catch the exact range of movement.
And thanks! Ive got that sort of physique and the guitar technique down so I figure I might as well do the rest for the cool factor. Plus it adds to the energy of the playing in this weird way! The “pogoing” was hard to learn..
Que isso
Espetacular
Nunca vi alguem tocar identico ao Johnny

Muy bueno!! Saludos desde Argentina 🇦🇷👏
Verry Cool, Johnny will be proud of you.
It would have been an hilarious and nice detail using the leather jacket until Shock Treatment like they did while performing live haha.
Great job!
Ha, I thought about it! I might be more inclined to do that covering a full show
@@HardlyRamoneDo you have the leather jacket, btw Hardly? Lol
@@AgusVilla1. yes, I received one as a gift almost ten years ago, ha. I wear it every winter
@@HardlyRamone That'll be amazing to watch it in the cover series! Cheers.
thank you for all ur vids dude they have helped me understand the more complex side of Johnny's playing and its has enhanced my guitar playing overall : )
Fuckin awesome. I hope you’re in a Ramones tribute band.
Além de tocar igual, faz os trejeitos todos! Merecia uma mosrite pra ficar igual.
Cara, você tem o pacote completo!

Hey man you're amazing, could you do your rock version of cartoon intros? I'd like to hear your Ramone version of Ben 10's intro. I kept rocking my friend. Saludos desde Argentina🇦🇷🤘🏻
Interesting idea! There are a lot of things to eventually try on this channel.
@@HardlyRamone Thanks amigo, im gonna to be happy to see you play new things
The sound of this show is so massive and beautiful so is your guitar playing
Genial!!!?
I've been playing the Ramones for years. I'm up for a challenge... I'm gonna try this same set. (Gulp) Nice job, btw!! Quite impressive!!
Nice! Make sure to strum all 6 strings if you want the bright sound of the show! And thanks man
@@HardlyRamone - I've been a Ramones fan for 40 years and a guitar player for nearly 30. ;)
Absolutely love it. So good just to see you playing the guitar along to these classics.. BRILLIANT 👌🤝🎸
I saw them in Geneva end of 80's or beginning of 90's. DeeDee was already replaced by CJ. This was great. I was young, slim and pretty... 👧🤘🏼🎼
Ha Ha same young and slim any way , actually first saw em in Germany 🇩🇪 1980 Düsseldorf or Dortmund I think 🤔
完コピです!
素晴らしい!!!
ジョニーのそのまんま!!!
Fucking insane man!!!
It's fairly obvious after watching this that Johnny Ramone found a time machine in the late 70s
Paid money to see bands , who weren’t this entertaining 😭🎭👍👍👍 Onya Hardly
COMO ESCREVEU ALGUÉM, SÓ FICOU FALTANDO UMA MOSRITE PRA FICAR IDÊNTICO AO JOHNNY RAMONE. INCRÍVEL!

Fantástico👏👏👏🤘🤘🤘
I set the video playback speed to 0.75.Still, the right hand moves very quickly!Great job!Your follower from Russia, Moscow.
Yeah, you have to move the hand pretty fast to hit all six strings at these tempos! Thanks for watching!
@@HardlyRamone You get this move incredibly fast. And this deserves respect for you as a professional, as it requires a lot of long training,In my 55 years, I can't move my hand so fast anymore.Although I've been playing guitar since I was 16.Thank you for the video!Looking forward to the next ones!🤝
Te amo
Killer job!
EXCELLENT My Man🔥🔥🔥🤘🏿

Fantastic! More live covers 🤘🏼🙏🏼
Several more of these one take live covers are planned 👉
Just a suggestion: you should try to make an instagram where you can post these covers as well and talk to viewers 👍🏻
(Again just a suggestion)
I do currently interact with viewers and other Ramones fans via discord, server is linked on my channel! Instagram is a maybe
Alright, I’ve got a Hardly Ramone Instagram now. Multiple people have asked haha
I sing their stuff. Take courses. Read Mickey Leigh's book about Joey. They were the best 🎸🎼🇨🇭
BRO I LOVE IT! YOU NEED A MOSRITE! 🔥
Id love to have one, ha. Thanks man!
Wow! This is really amazing, Would you be interested in performing live on Sessions?
Maybe, though I don’t know much about Sessions. My time is pretty limited
@@HardlyRamone I understand, do you have Facebook or Instagram? I'll send you details about Sessions. :)
@@jeytan8307 Currently I've only got a Discord
Oh wow we got some glimpses of your hair this time, haha! Great stuff as always man.
Ha, I think a few of my old covers give you a brief glimpse. I’m a pretty normal looking guy with brown hair, though it’s not really a bowl cut lol
@@HardlyRamone Lol, I getcha. You may not have Johnny’s bowl cut but you look just like him from the chest down haha
@@JohnnyRamonesT-Shirt Yeah, I just so happen to be the same height and weight he was in his mid 20s, going off his book. Decided I might as well find some shirts like his and wear my ripped jeans for the videos, haha. Makes the strat look like such a strange outlier.
I had always wanted to upload a sort of archival series of how to play these songs the right way, but these guitar covers are like a full on tribute act at this point
@@HardlyRamone That’s great man. I’ve been wanting to get Commando, out of all the Ramones Johnny to me would have the most interesting autobiography. He was there from the start and was, to me at least, the leader of the group. And because him and me both come from NYC. I’m from the Bronx not Queens but I’ve been a Ramones fan for as long as I can remember, you almost have to be one if you’re from NYC haha
The shirts are so cool especially the yellow one. It looks exactly like the one Johnny had with the red Ramones logo. And yeah, it’d all be complete with the Mosrite, but the green Strat goes nicely.
Regardless if it’s tutorials or a tribute act, it’s great content. Whenever I wanna see how to play one of their songs, I come to your channel. Especially the Surfin’ Bird video where Johnny plays constant downstrokes, that’s definitely one of his best performances. Keep it up!
@@JohnnyRamonesT-Shirt Yeah Commando was very interesting, short and to the point.. but that makes sense, lol. That's cool you're from NYC, I'd like to go there some time. And man, thanks so much. The channel was always intended to be a resource for fans who want to play the songs accurately. I really hope it continues to gain traction, I'd just like to see the real Ramones guitar style be more common knowledge, the way many other famous players' techniques are well understood.
Glad the outfit hasn't gone unnoticed, I went and bought a yellow shirt and a blue wristband just for filming this video, since Johnny wore similar stuff a lot in '79. A little production design never hurts, haha
what is the secret to your tone do you use any pedals or is it just the amp also what are your amp settings
No pedals for any of the tones on this channel, I just use the licensed Marshall amp plugins of the same amps Johnny used, and then I add additional EQ/Reverb/Compression as needed to mimic the sound of the specific recording I’m covering. That’s it! Amp settings aren’t very important, usually it’s volume/gain on 10 with the mids really high and the treble and bass set low. The tone needs a lot of treble but the plugins are weirdly too bright with the knob way up. The rest of the tone is just in the technique, Johnny played a very particular way
@@HardlyRamone thank you
What guitar strap do you use?
Custom made, it’s two belts (like for pants) buckled together with one of the ends cut off, and strap locks
@@HardlyRamone oh cool ive been looking for one that goes lower for punk stuff
@@nemesis2131 That was the problem I had before, now mine has a max length of 64”. I might do a tutorial on making one
@@HardlyRamone That would be awesome.
What time is it in the USA 🇺🇸, when you start playing Hardly? Just curious 🤨
6:00 pm! Central time
