Ultimately, mom was the only person allowed to use the copiers. It didn't matter what they did, max of one day before the repair guy had to fix it. This is especially worrying because my mother was a teacher, and everyone ignoring the demonstrations, posters, manuals, etc. were teachers too!

I would say the weirdest rules were those during Covid. I was working in a factory and the rules were wash your hands every half hour and bleach your area every hour. Now you might know that bleach on metal causes it to rust so we were having parts rust and people having difficulty breathing due to inhaling bleach.

"Make sure to ask every customer about our loyalty system" at a place you only shop at for housewares or a birthday present for someone you barely know.
Second best, "you should ask customers about our store credit card as you're loading up their items" tho that one was a half-joke said to me by a DS who was nowhere near my boss.

Goodwill. Specifically the DM but my old manager feeds into his ego. Our district was getting “too much overtime” and they cut hours down to 37.5 per week then stole everyone’s earned bonuses by going “y’all didn’t make up the overtime” even though we had. He then implemented that nothing could be priced less than $1.99 and we couldn’t bundle items together to where the individual items would be less than a dollar when divided by the amount.
They then created outlet stores for all the trash donations to go to and be sold by the pound yet refused to make sure the stores got the equipment back in a timely manner as well as swap out the trucks in a timely manner. They also had all of the good donations sent off to their electronic store location to be sold online and give only a fraction of the amount to the store it was donated at.
They then started selling new goods for $1.75 each or 3 for $5 that you can get next door at Dollar Tree for $1.25. Then they decided to sell soda as well and remove the employee vending machine but don’t keep it stocked.
And now DM has yelled at the store’s managers for them no longer being a $3 million store.

Ling before I was a coffee drinker, I'd worked at two places that actually preferred that I made it. I still don't understand how a non-drinker was the compromise all the drinkers could agree upon.

No electronic devices at work. I am a security guard. All I do is check people in all day. There are HUGE amounts of down time. Especially towards the evening. But nope. No electronics. You need to be "at attention" at all times.

That’s a common rule for many work places and I can see why both for security and distraction reasons. I’ve had MANY jobs and one of the only ones I could have mine at all times is my current one and only because I work at home.

@@caseyjc5 And normally I could see why that is. If we have patrols or to respond to medical emergencies and the like. We used to have that, but most of our day was spent sitting at a booth and checking people in. Eventually, our patrol vehicle died and they just cut patrols entirely and were told "Let the EMTs handle it, we don't want the liability." So now we sit at the booth all day and lock up the parks and office.

@@caseyjc5 Do you know what security even does? Basicly nothing. My best friend and 5 other friends are security guards. Do they stop bad guys? No. They'll be fired if they try. They literally just observe and report. They are a video camera made of meat that can yell at homeless people to go away. 98% of their work shift is "Stand in this spot". My best friend is a depressed wreck because she has ADHD and her job is "do nothing, except mabey, once every 3 hours, check one person's ID. Then once a day, walk between these points."
Security is something we could automate with technology that existed in 2004. It is psychological torture to make humans do it and be "at attention at all times". The only part of security we can't automate is "Oh no! A man is there. I shouldn't rob that I guess." That's it. They exist in the modern world to intimidate casual thieves. Any real security problem, even something as simple as a guy with a 200 dollar pistol from Walmart and a 45 dollar angle grinder from Home Depot... They can't stop that. Let the poor fucks you hired to be glorified scarecrows read a god damn ebook!

What is the general idea behind this? When all the work is done, employees cannot spend their time talking on their cell phones or playing poker. This kind of freedom means that everyone does their work properly and is motivated to do it quickly.

When I was in the USCG my first station was a buoy tender. Everyone wore a white T-shirt underneath their dark blue work shirts. Sometimes when we were working we’d take off the dark blue shirt & just wear the T-shirt. One day they decided that we couldn’t do that anymore when we were in port because someone had complained about the females having on white T-shirts that sometimes got wet when we were working outside in the heat of Mobile, AL. I was part of the first group of women on the ship so they ended up making up a few new rules.
