In case some didn't catch it - they're demoing how you can route audio channels from your DAW, down the USB cable, THROUGH the analog circuits of the machines...analog filter, analog overdrive, envelopes, stereo analog compressor, etc.
I am very excited about this. The new updates to rytm and the A4 look really good and are totally welcome. I was actually really interested in overbridge too. Initially I was a bit underwhelmed when i tried it out but this presentation has shown a lot of great potential for a studio work and hybrid hardware/software setup that i hadn't thought of before. Using the machines even as a processor for other inputs or jamming with others is really useful too for recording. For the people whining about not wanting to use a mouse and blah blah blah, i think you are missing the point. They are not forcing you to use a mouse. That isn't what is changing. Elektron is giving you extra tools and more options for you if so choose to use it. personally I feel like not taking advantage of all of your potential tools seems like a waste but that is just me. *shrugs* Elektron gear is not just a single job tools like a plain old kitchen knife. They are multi use tools like a swiss army knife that are capable of doing many things to many ends. The only issue i have with elektron is missing dates that they setup for releases in the past. I think (and hope) they will learn from their past mistakes though.
I agree with you here, I have the OT, A4, DruMM & RYTM and I welcome the idea of enhancing my instruments or using them differently, not sure why people are whinging like children about it. I use OB and have found it very fluid and useful.
Very, very interesting! The new OS stuff alone makes me really think of the Rytm and the integration I could get with my x0x boxes and Eurorack thru Overbridge... eeek! I know it aint gonna happen but I would KILL to have this retrofitted to my MD & MnM...
The achilles heel of the Elektron AR is getting samples into the machine. Does overbridge have a USB sample import and management facility? I know it can be used to move samples from the +drive to the sound pool, but if you could transfer them over from the mac/pc and name them, truncate them, etc using overbridge that would be handy. Simply just transferring them to the AR from laptop using Overbridge would be great. (getting C6 out of the process)
Would be interested in knowing if they are running in 16bit or 24 bit mode in Overbridge and how many tracks they are running total. Overbridge does have limitations as there is only so much bandwidth over USB. Also can't seem to get as much sync as shown in the video. Sync with AR and Ableton very good, passing sync from AR to Beatstep Pro sending notes to Waldorf Pulse 2 to audio channel in Ableton and there's considerable latency.
I own three Elektron machines, and don't give a damn about Overbridge. The best part of their hardware has always been NOT needing a computer or mouse. Their new focus on DAW software is a bummer.
+Mark GP Atherton Just keep on not using it then - nobody cares. I have not started using it yet myself (and I have all the boxes), but I still think it's cool. It opens up a lot of doors. If you like those doors closed, keep 'em closed. See my other comments that they have an OB team and then teams developing hardware - it's not like their only focused on software.
+Mark GP Atherton I totally agree with you. In the past they said "Make music should be fun" - it's not fun need a computer to do music with an instrument.
+Drone Star (DroneStar Sound) i agree, i got the analog keys a month ago, personally i think what they have added to the actual hardware looks awesome! As for overbridge i dont plan to use it but i have to admit it does look cool. Its always good to have that option available, i have no complaints about it.
+Mark GP Atherton So there is someone else who thinks like me! I too started with Elektron 10+ years ago in order to use machines that DIDN'T require a computer. Now its all integration and plugins.
Thing is the more money that is thrown at the programming the more money you make. Majority of people do not want to have all these cables. Native instruments have done well so far, but a niche market is opening up.
What about the Retrig sync?? I bought the AR looking for that feature since IT IS IN THE MANUAL and not on the machine... please guys! Electribes feature that and were made in 2003!
so let me get this straight, i can have like 2 - 3 elektron instruments all plugged into the overhub and then that plugged into my computer via USB and Im ready to record sequnces and samples straight into my DAW (Cubase in my case). Please tell me this is correct if it is I will go our right now and buy them.
Two of my friends got a Rytm and I get to jam with either, everyweek. It sounds great for my tastes...but, I got that Overhub and Overbridge and I've been running into some problems that someone might know how to get round (I am posting here as registering in the Eketron forum is not possible today). I need to select the Rytm as an input in my audio preferences in Ableton Live in order to get the individual tracks to pop up...meaning I cannot use my soundcard to monitor and record anything else, besides the individual Rytm tracks in Overbridge. Also, when doing this, I get latency, as opposed to when I monitor all of the Rytm voices from the Rytm plug in that is loaded into a MIDI track in Ableton. I wish the Rytm plug in was a multiout plug in (unless I am missing something, it is not) so I could route voices to different tracks without the latency I get when using Overbridge channels, as inputs. Also, even when just monitoring the Ableton MIDI track where the Rytm plug in is loaded in, I get some slight drift every now and then...its only for a few seconds, but yeah, its noticeable. And one last question, is there an Octatrack plug in, in the works? I am thinking about getting an Octatrack and this is important to me.
+sonicstate I can record (and monitor with latency) individual voices of the Rytm via the Overbridge, but if I want to record individual voices, I have to select the Rytm as the "audio input device" in Ableton Live's audio preferences. So that means I cannot use my soundcard to record (or monitor) anything else, except the Rytm. I saw in another video that Cenk could get the individual Overbridge tracks, pop up as an input selection in Ableton, with actually selecting "no device" in the "audio input device", but mine does not work like this, I have to select the Rytm as an audio input device, otherwise the Overbridge tracks are not an option in the external input selection...and this is a pain as it is right now.
I love the FM stuff on the Analog 4, was just thinking that was a bit of a missed opportunity doing some sound designing recently. And new performance trig options are neat too! Although are we getting support now for other DAWs with over bridge? Wasn't mentioned here. :(
+11brassmonkey11 2nd bullet point. Probability-, modulo- and and fill-modes etc. - Pitch-tracking LFO modes for FM-type sounds (also new modulation destinations for linear pitch modulation) - Free-running LFO modes, disconnected from BPM. Analog Rytm OS 1.22 news: - Sequencer note conditions. Probability-, modulo- and and fill-modes etc. - Free-running LFO modes, disconnected from BPM.
You don't need an additional audio interface because your Elektron device IS the audio interface. You can connect to the monitors just like any other audio interface, via the physical master outputs of the RYTM or Analog Four.
I must be getting old because what they're doing makes my head explode. I bought the A4 thinking that with Overbridge, I could also use the A4 as a Midi to CV converter between my Prophet 5 and my DAW. I tried it once and couldn't figure it out. Does this new OS make that possible? Without the A4 being the Master clock? Looks like it...... if I can figure it out.....
You'll only get 4 cv channels. Get the A4 to slave tempo from the daw, use the CV track for A/B and then you'll have to give up a track (1,2,3 or 4) for C/D. Set them to different MIDI channels in the MIDI sync menu. This is all from the top of my head, so some of it could be off.
When will they confess that Overbridge only works reliable with Ableton? What about Logic, Bitwig, Sonar, Cubase etc.? I love my Elektron stuff and surely don't depend on using a standalone-machine with a mouse, but I want total recall and automation. So... Ableton only, right..?
+Hummelsbusch i'm with you mate, I use Logic and the only reason I've been waiting for overbridge to work well with it is so i can multi-track. for me that would be lush
Elektron is failing so hard with Overbridge. Instead focus on what they were good, they are trying to go in the VST/AU marketplace, where there is beatiful synths/effects plugins already and no need for their machines. While these two machines are good standalone, I don't find any reason to buy them to work with a mouse.
+Liquid Proj3ct You need to try it. Overbridge is amazing. I only use when I need to, so it doesn't kill the whole hardware side of your creative workflow.
+Liquid Proj3ct Overbridge is great, it opens up new possibilities and paradigms of working with these machines. If you don't like it the machines still work fine on their own so no problem.
+Liquid Proj3ct What do you think? That they aren't also working on new machines? Because they are... there's a team for Overbridge and a team for whatever the next box is. If you don't like it, don't use it. Move along.
+Drone Star (DroneStar Sound) It's not what I think, it's what I see. Analog machines aren't having the same love and frecuency of OS refinenemet that MachineDrum or Octatrack had. AR has around 10 machines, while my MachineDrum has 4 times that number. A4 hasn't even a basic midi output, while the monomachine has it with 6 parallel track and more sound versatility (I don't own this one). What I'm stating is "Comeon Elektron, I'm willing to 'update' my MachineDrum to AR, but for something superior to it! Not to use it as a plugin and with a small fraction of it sound palette."
Not the best sonic state with elektron vid. Thought this was very badly presented by elektron, the guys were all over the place and both explaining things at the same time. I think for those who do not own any elektrons would be very confused by all this, just very poor messy vid.
+Lee Hayes this was very clearly not aimed at people new to these machines, but to people who wants to know about the upcoming features in the update.. i didnt think it was particularly messy considering how much new stuff there is and how little time they had to explain each thing.
Pitch tracked LFO's!!!! Thank you so much, guys!
+cuckoomusic Hi man! I would love to see a mini tutorial on the new features from you! You are the man! ;)
cuckoomusic I'm
amazing, the way this makes it so easy to integrate other machines and eurorack is wicked!
The new p.lock note probability & LFO disconnection from Tempo are killer! Cenks a happy chap & it's infectious. Nice to see Jimmy too!
Oh man a lot more!!!! Trig condition and fill mode, on both machine, that's soooooooo cool!!!
wow, some stunning features now available. Just added a OT to join my A4 so looking forward to Overbridge tweaking!
Those machines are truly incredible.
looks great, can't wait to get my hands on this update.
Hard work behind that! Impressive work. This is something very special in the world of analog+daw.
Thanks Sonic State and Elektron! Elektron you guys are doing amazing things! Super stoked!
brilliant work guys u should be proud elektron !

loving my analog keys, now even more i feel with the new update ....oh happy days
there is some revolutionary stuff going on right there :o
so glad I bought the AR !
Yesssss. New LFO types look great!
really excited about the new OS ! keep up the good work elektron ;)
Reminds me of a Ronnie barker professor sketch. As you can see. It's all very simple.
Damn. You're gonna ended up making me get a Rytm to keep my A4 company.
+Aaron Swain go for it, won't regret it
+thisisprisma same setup here, bomb!!
This is a great update guys! Super excited! Keep it coming!! Cheers Elektron
These machines keep getting more and more complicated. Having a hell of a time with my set up!

BRAVO!!!! you guys ROCK!
Pretty sure that Cenk is responsible for about 90% of Elektron's sales, everything he does with these machines is bad ass
He's the reason I have a Machinedrum
the reason I am saving up for an octatrack as well
what a glorious update. cant wait to get my hands on this :)
also, i need a rytm now.
Love that company!
Keep in mind when they say "Very close" it is not the normal definition of very close. they were saying very close months ago.
looking great!!
major update! it keeps getting better and better.

can we get a sine wave please
+Justin Drake www.reddit.com/r/synthesizers/comments/2mhmqv/question_why_do_some_synthesizers_not_have_sine/
+Justin Drake I would be overjoyed if there were a way to generate a sine wave. have a hard time imagining that an OS update could enable it, though.
Dima Parachute Thanks for the link man, thats interesting . I still think that the a4 fm stuff would be more interesting with a pure sine wave.

"Overhub" which looks identical to the $16 MTT USB 3 hub I got off Amazon. Probably *is* the same hub.
