"And if you didnt like the video hit the dislike button twice" - pure genius. I didn't know that tap tempo had been added to the console. I bought an atom pad when they came out and use that for tap tempo. Nothing worse than strumming a progression out on the guitar and then having to guess your BPM. My favourite thing about S1 is the integration between hardware and software. I use a 192 studio and a faderport for most of my recording and mixing. Where the faderport has issues with things like adding an Fx to a channel I use the studio one remote app.
There are a lot, but I think my favorite is how the routing is solved. You can do whatever you want without having to create complicated return tracks. Take a signal. Split it at 250 Hz. Parallel compress the lower part and slap some EQ on there. Split the upper singal again above 10k. transfer to M/S mode. Add an EQ specifically on everything bove 5k. Add a little stereo widening. Convert the signal back to stereo. Mix all the signals back together. And have a nice and easy graph for that! You didn't have to create even a single additional track or channel. That is just soooo wonderfully powerful and nicely done.
I just started with Studio One, moving over from Cakewalk. I just bought a Native Instruments S61 and in Cakewalk I might as well have had a regular MIDI controller, most of the features of the keyboard didn't work. Plus, and it might just be me or my setup, Cakewalk never seemed to remember settings, setups etc so I spent half of my time reconfiguring it instead of recording. So I picked up Studio One, installed it, turned on my hardware, opened S1 and lo and behold it saw everything without me touching a single setting. It's easy to move between soft synth tracks, every feature of my S61 works great and I'm a happy camper and will be watching all of Mike's videos on S1! Thanks!
I tested so many DAWs between 2 and 3 years ago, when i first got into DAWs. Studio One came out on top for me. My number one reason is that it's pretty straight forward to get around and do what you need to do. Couple that with it's amazing out of the box plugins and instruments and you can't go wrong. I have to admit that I have a soft spot for Reaper and CakeWalk but for everyday usage, it has to be S1.
I learned on PT Le 8, wanted to upgrade but Avid’s licensing is not customer friendly in my opinion so I tried Reaper, Cakewalk and S1. They all work great but S1 had the most familiar workflow. I really like the drum mapping and beat editing, it’s like they took the best features from all the competitors and put it in one well thought out package. I haven’t used the VCAs yet because I wasn’t too sure how they worked. I’m glad you included that and explained it further. Thanks for the quality content!
I’m a long time Cakewalk user (1992) but recently added Studio One Pro (3, 3.5, 4, 4.6) back in 2017 when Gibson dropped the brand. I still use Cakewalk by BandLab as my main DAW, but have really been enjoying Studio One ever since the version 4 upgrade. Version 4.6 is even better. Cakewalk and Studio One 4.6 Pro will be my go to DAWS for 2020. Thanks for the video.
Definitely my favorite since I first received it 6 years now. I’ve looked and bought others and they don’t compare. Thanks for your time - GO STUDIO ONE ☝️
I've been using studio one for the last few weeks. I am enjoying it. Everything seems to be easier to do when compared to Cakewalk and the interface is a dream to work in. I'm using artist 4 with the vst add-on.
I use Presonus Sphere and although it is probably a small thing, I love the ability to drag an instrument, fx chain, or effects and have Studio One create a new track. I have found this much more intuittive to use rather than the usual way in other DAWs
I just started home recording less than a year ago. Someone told me about Audacity, which I have used mainly for editing. Then a friend told me about CakeWalk, so I learned more about plug-ins, and by watching your videos on compression, eq, etc., I made a pretty descent song. Now, another friend told me about Studio One, which appears to be even better than any of the above. I have the Pro version just now installed. Thanks for the intro., moving on to your beginner videos. Thanks for being there... your presentation is world class. Cheers, Bruce from Boulder, CO
I love the audio editing feature ARA2 "open with Melodyne", or with Vocalign, been a Studio one user since 2016, before that with FL Studio, Studio One really does it for audio editing
I like because of all the reasons stated by you. Also, I really like the general ease of workflow and intuitive way it works. It's really stable also. I have also been a Cakewalk user since early 2000's and got into Studio one when Gibson dropped Sonar. (I was a Sonar Platnum user....paid for lifetime updates too ) Picked up Studio One Professional during Black Friday sales in 2017. I like both DAWS. Calewalk is like an old friend. Your videos are great and very informative.

Hey Mike, Thanks for a great introduction video. I've been using Studio One 5 Artist for about three years now and am going to upgrade to 6 Pro shortly. I appreciate your concise overview of the product. Al
Oh man,....just found your other vids on studio 1,.......AWESOME you explain things in a nice slow calm tone,.......cant wait to absorb this info,.....subscribed.
always hear this was a great DAW but 20 years of cakewalk is hard to shake. Love the beautify and simplicity. Glad to finally get an overview of this, thanks
I'm pretty new to CbB and each time I use it, I have to post a rant or a question in the forum during my session. It's not that intuitive and there are quite a fee things that you have to work around or learn to use it. I'm constantly looking in the manual for stuff that should be pretty easy to do with a right click or browsing the menu.
save my comment: studio one will be the standard in a few years (less than a decade). its so amazing man!!! a lot of things that S1 has from the version 1, have been ''copied or even ported to other daws''. also i love how a whole comunity have swtiched without having all the marketing as the others have, and being that easy to make audio professionals love it. but one thing that i really feel presonus have to fix is the customer service, i've read a lot of comments of people saying that the brand is not really good helping with problems on their daw
Drag out an effect and it creates a matching type of track; instrument drag creates an instrument track, audio effect drag creates an audio track automatically. Fast work flow. also very easy to find plugins in side browser. all by vendor on same page. But drag and drop feature to create tracks automatically is the best for me. Protools was much more involved, especially setting up instruments.
I hit the like button and now I'm in love with your channel. 😅 Studio One seems like a really complete package, considering it has a project view where you can master and upload your music directly.
I really enjoy this channel and respect your opinion. But personally I use and would recommend Ableton Live. I used to use FL Studio but I never quite liked it, some things just don't work the way you'd think. Ableton, on the other hand, fits my workflow perfectly. Sure, it may look quite confusing at first but once you understand the basics the flow feels really intuitive.
Awesome! Each has thier own taste. Despite it being around for years, I've never actually tried Ableton Live, but I've heard many people speak highly of it. Love what you love man :)
I'm 72-year-old music producer who built my studio in 1979. I started MIDI sequencing with Passport software in 1983 and moved to Cakewalk MIDI sequencing software in 1987. I stuck with Cakewalk through the years and up through Sonar-right up until the newer operating systems wouldn't support my version of Sonar anymore. Imagine my delight when I discovered Cakewalk by Bandlab. However, you've recently piqued my interest in PreSonus Studio One 6 via your glowing reviews. But I'm wondering if Studio One's notation editor is going to be a deal breaker for me. I do 50% of my MIDI editing using Cakewalk's staff view as it provides for a quick & robust workflow. What little I've seen online regarding the Studio One 6 notation editor suggests it to be a bloated, unwieldy interface-incapable of right-clicking individual note heads for quick pitch, duration and velocity tweaks. I think your tutorials are the best and would love to see an in depth discussion of the notation editor in Studio One 6.
Studio one looks very enticing but being a 10 year user of FL Studio I can't see myself ever changing due to FL Studios FREE lifetime updates. FL just released version 20.7 and it gets better with every new version and at zero cost, that's hard to beat.
I am an FL studio user since 2014, thinking of switching DAW because Fl on Macbook is just so bad and my windows laptop have problem in it. Looking to use Studio One/Ableton/Cubase since they are much better on Mac(performance-wise).
My reasons for using Studio One over Cakewalk, which I also have, are the chord track and the arranger track. Combined they make it very easy to know where you are.
I've had Studio One since v2. But I just don't get to spend enough time in it. I wish there was a pro studio in town that used it and I could intern there and just live in the software for a while!
@@CreativeSauce thanks for the tutorials. helps me a lot. I record at home using a scarlett 2i2 3rd gen. Much love and appreciation from the Philippines
I have CAKEWALK and I like to use it. I planned to BUY; FL Studio or Studio One, and PROMOTION HAS BEEN WORKING - I PURCHASED CUBASE 10 Pro for 50% of the price. c'est la vie. 😊
Mike's video's are always excellent, I've recently had some issues with Cakewalk glitching and have decided to buy the Presonus Audiobox 96 25th Anniversary interface and I've noticed Studio one Artist is included. I'm hoping that the interface resolves my issue with Cakewalk but having watched this video I am thinking of switching to Studio one anyway. How easy is it likely to be to transfer my music from one DAW to another (Mainly VST's but also vocal (audio) tracks).
My friend you MORE than validated my choice of switching to Studio One as a lifelong Cubase user 🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾 clicked subscribe. ....now...I got the faderport with it....which audio interface would you recommend...I’m com8ng from a Motu 4 Pre that I’ve had for quite a while...I’d like to be able to play with my MPC without turning on the computer....recommendations? Thx!
Hello, Mike. I was using Cakewalk (from more than 20 years ago) and started using Studio One professional also based on your recomendations. However, I can’t seem to have the same level of integration with Melodyne in SO that I have in CW - dragging an audio clip to a midi track for immediate conversion, for example, or not having to ‘transfer’ the audio prior to editing. Am I missing something here? Thanks in advance and congratulations for a job well done.
@@CreativeSauce Ok, it seems I have to 'edit with melodyne' (ctrl/command M) prior to drag the audio (already converted) to an empty track. It's an extra step from just dragging it, but no big deal.
I finally decide to choose Studio One 4 Artist instead Cakewalk because I have a Presonus audio box and the software is free for Presonus client. The thing really interesting for me it's the arranger track. It's very easy to change place of differents parts of the song if you need to try other arrangements. Lot of things are really simple like change the tempo in the song and all the things you describe in your video. I was a Nuendo user and this software change many things for me. It's really nice. I need to say one important thing : yes it's simple but you really need to take time to learn the different specific fonctions. Cheers from France !
Are there courses to learn from basic to advanced skills in recording? I just bought my first audio interface and condenser mic and im playing w the free studio 1 5 and ableton lite and other than recording acoustic guitar and vocals into my mic I haven't had a clue
How often do you find need in 3rd party software. Say Waves plugins for example? For vocals drums etc. Btw as an owner of studio one pro favorite feature so far is it has melodyne implementation. Phenomenal
Mostly the third party plugins I use are about character - vintage sounds etc. The others are more dedicated to mastering. But actually the set of plugins that you get with Studio One are very useful, and I use them often..
@@CreativeSauce That's great to hear... That I was thinking of but not sure where to begin on vintage plugins since I have no point of reference. But I guess a great investment than I would say since most of it is used as opposed to not. Another key feature I would say at best, the handy Tool function for quantization and stretching transient tools. Remarkable..
I use Cakewalk at the moment, have been a customer since 12 tones days, However I do run into a lot of issues that staff at Cakewalk have no real good answer for, and losing a days work or constantly having to restart program gets very tiresome especially as the CBL staff do not tell me that they are working on the issue frustrates me further. If I knew they were fixing I would be patient. But no word other than 'try in a new project' does not do it for me. I use a brand new state of the ART PC, UAD Thunderbolt interface etc. so I do not think it's an issue with computer. Am I the only one with issues? Watching this video sure temps me to switch. Any body have any advice???
Nice video. I am considering the PreSonus StudioLive 32S series III mixer. Can the Control Surface of the StudioLive mixer adjust (and add) the Studio One Professional plugins to the channel strips all from the mixer control surface? Thanks. Phil
My number one is the ability to record directly from Windows devices, not only ASIO . This allows me to record on one sound card and play back on another one. This is present in Audacity bu ton in Cubase or Ableton, major issue for me.
Excellent review short, clear, informative and truly professional. Most of all simple and sweet. If you alow me to add a favorite feature to your already great review it would be that I can copy my session view (loops) to Studio one by just drag and drop and voila! I have the flexibility of creating my music in live and arranging it in Studio One with it's emasculate processing great sound engine. Personally I'm blown by the sound quality of Studio One.
Hi and thanks for your videos on Studio One and Cakewalk. I have been using Sonar Professional for several years and recently got Studio One 4 with my Presonus Audiobox usb96. Just wondering if/how I could connect a Roland TD17 edrum kit to Studio One? Should I get one of the free Drum softwares that you recommended in another video? (I have managed to do this in Sonar) Thanks for any help you can give on this subject!!
I did use Cakewalk since vers 3, stepping through all changes to Sonar & Bandlab. I did have always lots of troubles with drop-outs, popos & clicks with Sonar and Cakewalk. I do admit that I never had 5 track-recordings, but always complex 12 tracks and more and for this I subscribed this behaviour to my faults. I always though it was either "my fault" due to wrong settings or too small hardware components. Now I know, after reading the comparison www.blades.technology/music/daws-sonar-and-studio-one/studio-one-vs-cakewalk-by-bandlab and seeing your video, that the daw was the reason. I consider to change to Studio 1 in the next time. As always, Mike, you helped me a lot.
I'm a longtime Daw user who freelances at various studios. Out of the most popular DAWs out there Cubase is by far my favorite. I know Studio One is designed by some of the same people and seems similar and may be considered a modern offshoot from Cubase with some neat tricks up it's sleeve. This combined with practically no upfront cost subscription pricing no stupid dongle to buy or lose I am considering going with Studio One for my own place, where I'm currently producing instrumentals on FL 20 and Bandlab Cakewalk. In the beginning of the video you said you were also a cubase user among other programs. How do you feel Studio One compares to Cubase. Is there areas you feel are lacking, significantly better, etc? Thank you and good video.
I have been using Logic for 8 years and FL user for 10 years but I just left both for S1 4 months ago and I never looked back. Sometimes, I go back to FL for a quick beat making but for a full on production, S1 all the way. To me S1 feels like a combination of FL, Logic and Protools in one.
I was just getting to like Cakewalk, but for some reason it started crashing in my laptop. And, it's not an old laptop by any means... So I gave up on it and I've started trying Studio One. Let's see how it goes =)
Hey Mike. I've got a huge amount from your cakewalk videos (thank you, again) but studio one does look good. Any chance of a similar series for this? 🤞
I'm a bit of a cheapskate, so love having Cakewalk for free! Although the free version of Studio One looks pretty good and I really like the look of its UI. How would you say the free version of Studio 1 compares with Cakewalk? Would I be able to do as much?
The free S1 Prime edition doesn’t support 3rd party plug-ins. Although it does offer a small selection of plug-ins made by PreSonus, the Analog Delay, Compressor and Pro EQ plug-ins are missing. IMHO, it’s difficult to do serious work without those types of features.
I'm struggling to see a difference between Cubase and Studio One. I use Cubase 10.5, but heard great things about Studio One and was considering their crossgrade; however, when I look at videos about Studio One I don't see any features that Cubase doesn't have that makes Me want to spend the $299.
I used to use FL for beat making and Cubase for recording, editing and mixing and then Sound Forge for mastering. That was until I was introduced to Studio 1 and ever since the version 2, I haven't looked back. It's My main DAW for everything .ie. Producing, Recording, Editing, Mixing and Mastering.. It's absolutely amazing!.
When I purchased a Presonus 24C audio interface I did so because it came with Studio One Artist. I loaded up the software only to find I could not use the many plugins I already owned. (Yes I could have paid US$99 or so to have the privilege of using stuff I already bought.) I was that disappointed (to put it politely for your nice viewer base) I promptly uninstalled it never to consider Studio One again. I’m lucky I have both Cakewalk and Reaper set up for the way I like them. My thoughts Tony
Yeah they should just give you the plugin add-on as part of a bundle if you're buying their hardware, i know a few people that were put off with Presonus for that very reason. Being able to use/integrate stuff you already own should be a base feature.
if you're are on artist v4, you must update to v5 because you will have third party vst support natively... if your're on pro v4, the recent version will give a mastering page, show page, and a lot of other things that i don't know at this moment
I still can’t see anything that makes me want to change from logic although it looks good I think unless your using it’s live features I wouldn’t bother changing
After upgrading from S1 Pro 4.5 to 4.6, I found that when I make changes to a song on the Song Page and then update the song mastering file, the changes are no longer reflected on the Project Page. For example, lower the volume of any track or master track in the song. Update the song mastering file and then play it back in the Project Page. For me, the problem is the same on an iMac (Mohave and Catalina) and a new PC machine with Windows 10 Pro. Have you observed this issue?
It's often an incompatible plugin or that plugin or vst that needs to be reinstalled. Second might be a song or project recorded in 4.5 then the update to 4.6. They say you should complete the entire project or song in the original version (4.5) then update the software.
@@RKDriver This happens with S1 installed with just its stock plugins. No third party plugins on the new machine. I would create a test song in the new version and get the same result. Others are reporting this issue as well. Hopefully, this will be fixed in the next update. Thanks for the tips though.
Thank Mike. As someone that started learning about DAW's using Cakewalk (watching your videos), I am experiencing more and more glitches, audio dropouts with each subsequent update release from Bandlab. So if I were to change to Studio One, is there the ability to import cakewalk project files (.cwp) or am I going to be faced with having to import each audio/ instrument track separately to create a new project file in Studio One?
Unfortunately, Cakewalk is free but buggy and glitchy. And is not comfy to use as S1. And, as I know, S1 does not support CW format. So, exporting stems in WAV or something is the only way.
Hi Randy. Good question. The short answer is, because I use both. The long answer, you can find on my post here: www.creativesauce.net/why-i-use-cakewalk-and-studio-one/

Is everything you buy in life (clothes, food, house, car) always the cheapest it can be? Or is that only reserved for making music?
@@chrism.8926 Cheap and good value are not the same thing.
You can use two daws… I been using Fl for 7 years and just started with Studio one and it’s so much fun that I decided to use both.
My reasons for using Studio One over Cakewalk, which I also have, are the chord track and the arranger track. Combined they make it very easy to know where you are.
Cakewalk added arranger track recently
Love your content ....
what is the difference between Studio One Professional and Artist... what would I be missing???
I've had Studio One since v2. But I just don't get to spend enough time in it.
I wish there was a pro studio in town that used it and I could intern there and just live in the software for a while!
Well, you should see many more videos from me about it in coming months. Hopefully that helps !
I'm a Cakewalk user and I always hit LIKE on your videos that I watch
Thank you Anrdre, Cakewalk is great!
Thinking on moving from logic to studio one! thanks for the video
I just got the the studio one 5. Sphere, Very new to DAW, so daunting for me to say the least
Literally everything except for project view is in every other DAW that I've used.
Yeah but for me FL Studio is confusing as fuck.. I'm used to Audacity 4track style..
I'm new to studio one tho but would find my way around it with time 😊
My friend you MORE than validated my choice of switching to Studio One as a lifelong Cubase user 🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾 clicked subscribe.
....now...I got the faderport with it....which audio interface would you recommend...I’m com8ng from a Motu 4 Pre that I’ve had for quite a while...I’d like to be able to play with my MPC without turning on the computer....recommendations? Thx!
@Creative Sauce could you also do some videos about getting started in Studio One,
I recently installed it in my PC. It would be great, thank you!
Hi, yes they are coming. I expect to to the first ones starting next week!
Thanks Jose. I haven't actually tried that in S1, so will give it a go and get back to you. Thanks
@@CreativeSauce Well, I've just seen it being done, so I'm obviously missing something. I'll get there. Thanks
@@CreativeSauce Ok, it seems I have to 'edit with melodyne' (ctrl/command M) prior to drag the audio (already converted) to an empty track. It's an extra step from just dragging it, but no big deal.
I didn't know about the last one. That feature is hella useful
Cakewalk added arranger track recently
Great vid....link to check oout Studio One on amazon did not work for me......just fyi
I love how Studio one works with exporting dialog for Animation projects
Hey Mike, you should also try Ableton at some point. Worth a try!
Are there courses to learn from basic to advanced skills in recording? I just bought my first audio interface and condenser mic and im playing w the free studio 1 5 and ableton lite and other than recording acoustic guitar and vocals into my mic I haven't had a clue
studio one is good for mastering!
Any body have any advice???
chord detection has to be the best
i agree especially the way they design it
Nice video.
I am considering the PreSonus StudioLive 32S series III mixer. Can the Control Surface of the StudioLive mixer adjust (and add) the Studio One Professional plugins to the channel strips all from the mixer control surface? Thanks.
Phil
I would like to use this Daw, Studio have great features! I love project View! I hope that BandLab create something like this!
Great vid mike. As you know i have been using reaper for some time but i do like the look of studio one. May invest when price comes down a bit 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
I still learning so much
Thank you for this, I'm indeed close to switching from Logic to Studio One. I use Presonus DAW controllers but I see that you don't, why?
Hi and thanks for your videos on Studio One and Cakewalk. I have been using Sonar Professional for several years and recently got Studio One 4 with my Presonus Audiobox usb96. Just wondering if/how I could connect a Roland TD17 edrum kit to Studio One? Should I get one of the free Drum softwares that you recommended in another video? (I have managed to do this in Sonar) Thanks for any help you can give on this subject!!
Just bought a shed load of Presonus gear, studio one 5 comes with most of it free, if I want to upgrade would you recommend professional or sphere?
As always, Mike, you helped me a lot.
studio one is the future.......
Can you chime in on whether or not you would recommend Sphere?
I liked this so much, I hit Like 3 times!!
Just awesome!!!
Thanks again for Sharing!!!
oh nice features... I'll def try it out. Maybe it could be the DAW replacement for Logic X
@@HudzPro Thanks, that’s actually good to hear. So far, I'm liking it very much.
Does this support Neural DSP and Get Good Drummer? Subscribed also! Looking forward to your videos!
Edit: Just bought the Pro Version haha
Hi Mike,
Please review Mixcraft if you can.
I was just getting to like Cakewalk, but for some reason it started crashing in my laptop. And, it's not an old laptop by any means... So I gave up on it and I've started trying Studio One. Let's see how it goes =)
Mike..easy question..how do I contact support for Cakewalk by BL?
Very good video Mike thank you
Hey Mike.
I've got a huge amount from your cakewalk videos (thank you, again) but studio one does look good. Any chance of a similar series for this? 🤞
I do hip hop do you have suggestions for a beginner
I'm a bit of a cheapskate, so love having Cakewalk for free! Although the free version of Studio One looks pretty good and I really like the look of its UI. How would you say the free version of Studio 1 compares with Cakewalk? Would I be able to do as much?
no way to compare studio one free against Cakewalk... Cakewalk is a pro level and Studio one free is for beginners!
Same here bro. The free version is Studio 1 is nice for you to get a feel for how it works but it's too limited for pro use.
The free S1 Prime edition doesn’t support 3rd party plug-ins. Although it does offer a small selection of plug-ins made by PreSonus, the Analog Delay, Compressor and Pro EQ plug-ins are missing. IMHO, it’s difficult to do serious work without those types of features.
love studio one my Daw of choice,Please how do i get the Talk option, speakers and the other options beside the main volume channel on the mixer
I'm struggling to see a difference between Cubase and Studio One. I use Cubase 10.5, but heard great things about Studio One and was considering their crossgrade; however, when I look at videos about Studio One I don't see any features that Cubase doesn't have that makes Me want to spend the $299.
Studio one vs pro tools
Which one is better?
I used to use FL for beat making and Cubase for recording, editing and mixing and then Sound Forge for mastering. That was until I was introduced to Studio 1 and ever since the version 2, I haven't looked back. It's My main DAW for everything .ie. Producing, Recording, Editing, Mixing and Mastering.. It's absolutely amazing!.
Great video!
The main problem is there are fewer tutorials online than other popular DAWs such as Ableton and ProTools. Not handy for the beginners.
Fair enough point Tony!
Can you do a video on deciding whether to upgrade from 4 to 5?
if you're are on artist v4, you must update to v5 because you will have third party vst support natively... if your're on pro v4, the recent version will give a mastering page, show page, and a lot of other things that i don't know at this moment
Why can't I use my pedals in my ampire? Need help
Yes, thats my daw sens studio one 2 ;) best for me
Thats great Margus - thanks for watching :)
Enjoy your channel, but I have one question… You have been posting videos of cakewalk by Bandlab for a long time. Why studio one now all of a sudden?
Hi Randy. Good question. The short answer is, because I use both. The long answer, you can find on my post here: www.creativesauce.net/why-i-use-cakewalk-and-studio-one/
