I'm sorry it's blocked in by other trucks. I'd like to see you take it out for a spin. An engine heater would help in cold weather. It sounded as if it was cranking over well enough to ignite the fuel. Sure enough, after a few tries it took off. If you pull out the throttle just a little and let it high idle for a while, I bet it will warm up nicely and run nice and smooth. A Mack school bus! What a rare vehicle!
well I see what I was thinking about it became a reality, so when do you guys plan on fixing this baby up ? also in the video when you guys moved it... its a white top which makes it even cooler
Antonio Mason The bus is currently sitting at the restoration shop, waiting in line for the restoration. They have a bunch of projects they are working on right now, but the bus is in line for later this year.
Only two buses were ever built on the B-61 Mack chassis. The other one was ordered by a mining company in Chile. This one was originally a Palm Springs School District bus.
holding a burning rag,... with a set of vise grips..... near the intake usually helps a cold start. .. it always worked on my old forklift when the heater plugs quit working.
In the early 60s when this bus was new our school district had mid 50s Internationals, gas jobs with 5-speed non-synchro. Many women drove them, but beat hell out of the transmissions.
@@1940limited Getting the r's right is a learned process. Got to pay attention and realize you don't have a turbine to play wind it up with. I can float 'em but I don't like to. I like that clutch because if something goes haywire I can maybe keep it from getting any worse. And I use it for timing shifts too but I started a long time ago and old habits work fine as long as you're still alive to use them. TYried and true!
@@lewiemcneely9143 I love these guys that shift without using the clutch. You really only need it for starts and stops. You can run a non-synchromesh transmission without the clutch pretty easily with a little practice.
@@1940limited I can and do a little but not much. I've had a rear end and a transmission come out with me going downhill and I was plenty glad I wasn't asleep and got on the clutch like immediately. Saves a lot of loud noises.
Check out my other videos. The one titled "It's Alive" gives a good view of the bus. Also, there's a video I took of this bus a couple years ago at a truck show before I owned it.

Love to ride to school in that thing
I like how the front is made, with the chrome grill.
Wow now this is rare... you guys should restore it and enter it in a truck show it would be a real head turner + I love the way it sounds too :)
That's the plan.

oh ok kool cant wait to see the finished product soon
Sounds pretty good.
What a find!!! Probably nearly impossible to find something that old and still pretty darn good shape. Were there very many of these Macks around?

@@grnthmb55 I hope someone saved it. This bus should be restored and preserved.
Woow beautiful bus

Yeah but that’s just a forklift
@@xanders.8650 It's an old school trick. There are videos of guys doing it on old Volvos and the like.
This would have been a good one to watch from the exhaust.
I cant picture a sweet old lady driving this school bus.

You should donate it to the Mack Truck Museum in Allentown, Pennsylvania after restoring it of course. They would LOVE to have it.
or sell it to them lol

This bus is 1 of 2 that was ever built on a Mack B-61 chassis.
+grnthmb55 very cool, I wish I had it
Where did you come up with that?
Sweet ol' bus! What transmission does it have? 5-speed?
Yes.
+grnthmb55 thanks..I too was wondering.:)
+Mike Peterson Jr. (mitsumivec4life) Probaly three or four speed. Beats modern automatic CNGs (sound familiar?:))
Did they also have automatics?
Give us a tour of this bus

I hope it's for sale
It might need new batteries. Sometimes one battery might be dead
Do you still have this 1962 Mack Bus
No, I sold it back in June to a collector from New Hampshire.
grnthmb55 do you know of any more
There were only 2 of these ever made on the B-61 Mack chassis and supposedly the other one was sold to a mining company in Chile.
@@grnthmb55 I do hope he gave it a good home.
