On the 66, you can hear (and count) the normal compression on 7 cylinders and one "easy" cylinder, which usually indicates a valve issue,(stuck open or burnt). If it is an intake valve, it will make a hissing with the air cleaner off.Intake valve issues push compression back into the manifold, reducing the needed vacuum, making hard starts in cold more noticeable than an exhaust valve leak will.

The best way to start a super beetle with an auto choke is to press the gas once to activate the choke and if it doesn't fire up after a few cranks put the gas to the floor and crank the engine, that's how you start them when there flooded.
I don't know what it is but I love the way the old starters sound. It's probably from listening to my dad start his old 77 Pontiac Grand Prix on cold days when I was still a kid.
Nice cold starts and three fails. Keep up the good work.Charge the 66's battery and the vw battery and get them started. Do another cold start on them.
For some reason I thought the Travellall was long gone. The most successful cold starts I get are using a big Holley carb. Those can sit awhile and start easy.
When my mother lived in Connecticut, her family used a block heater to make the car easier to start in cold weather conditions. I don't know if that would be worthwhile because I don't know what type of climate you have where you live.
+Sean Capps 55- 57 chevy. The next couple years 58-59 looked very much like it from the side and in this video I didn't notice a view of the nose so I cant be certain. They call this the "cab forward" design. I'm no expert in this series. My specialty is 1967-72. My first truck was a 68 and I've loved them ever since
lol last winter in finland at my place, it was -22F = -30celsius and under it. i had my lada 1200 -79 sitting on yard for over 3 weeks in -25 - -34celsius.. i charged the battery almost full and put the keys in and turned them and wow.. it started in less than 3 seconds!
what's the deal with the step side it sounded awesome plus another way to help on cold starts is to hold the gas to the floor as its cranking over (carbed engines) and once it starts let off that's what I do on my 86 C10 and third the ones that didn't start where due to dead battery that's it
You could get a float charger installed on your car, just plug it in when you expect it to sit. I use mine even when its just sitting over night. Never have to worry about a dead battery again. Unless you set up your charger wrong, and over cook your battery.
I should be in bed right now... Instead, I'm watching a video of some good ol' boy starting random shit around his property, and enjoying it.
I love them. my wife always wondering why I watch them
Thank you.

Okay so I've seen comments saying that ford beats Chevy all the way but do they not realize the major difference between a 2000 and a 1950?
Morgan Hill yea people are kinda dumb
Yeah that’s at least a half a century difference between both vehicles

In no way, ever, does a cord beat a Chevy. Or a dodge for that matter

Yeah I love the sound of the starter on my 78 GMC truck. Sounds much more "manly" than those new starters that are kinda high pitched and quiet
ChillCosmos my 77 Grand Prix starts up every time. She loves the cold
I love the way those old starters sound too!
making us a bunch of dummies!! 😂😂 lol so true
We built a lot of snow forts and tunnels when we were kids. It was fun. Lil Man havin a good time, makes for good memories.
love me some pedal pumping action. i miss the old cars and trucks
You'd hate my old trucks, I never have to pump pedals... ever. 'Cause you shouldn't have to... ever.
I may be a mopar kind of guy. But god damn I love that old chevy truck. it sounds and runs so good!

the ole cheby springs to life, I have not seen a big foot pedal for years
That classic "jew jew jew jew jew" crank on the German VW. Love it.
Its a beetle dumbass💀
I love the interior and weird key areas of old trucks
at 2:22 gotta love kohler powered equipment....at least I think so Kohlers or most I have seen always start.
Loved them old pickups of the 60s and 70s ! Remember them manual chocks ? Oh well get the starting fluid out !
Now you have lots of batteries to go charge up so they don't freeze lol!
That never fails to get me... Vee-Dubble-YUH
Oh man, what a great video. Don't know how I got here, but really wished out of the fails, the '66 started. I subbed!
Thank you
Bunch of cool trucks, especially the stepside.
"I guess we could try the four wheeler"
Aw man I wish I could have as many vechicles as you. Must be fun having all them around.
Sounds like a Mopar starter in the blue truck.
I'm in love with that grey truck!
I love how the trucks fuel gage was on empty in 04:16
I feel the cold start pains some days, but then again I'm Older than all them fails together, some days, but I struggles thrus..Stay warm, and safe !!

I agree
When my mother lived in Connecticut, her family used a block heater to make the car easier to start in cold weather conditions. I don't know if that would be worthwhile because I don't know what type of climate you have where you live.
Why did you not use starter fluid for these cold starts? :(
Starting fluid is bad
999thenewman starting fluid is engine killing fluid
so do I need a choke in Southern California? ? What we need is water.... Great video, stay safe.
The grey pick-up at 8:00 sounded sweet.
damn man quite a few vehicles you got in you're fleet..and some damn good lookin ones at that!
Try -40 C or (-40F) cranking a engine ...Do they make winter gas in the southern states ...the addition of extra butane?
Hey I want to say happy father's day plus I like the cold start videos you made I really enjoy it :-) ? :-)
IDK why I like this video but I do.

Those batteries sure are good.
Back in the late 80s there was a 66 just like that minus the stack's. That used to cruise the school, same style wheels too.

I always find myself rooting for these old cars
this guy reminds me of my cousin 10 different keys to 10 different things
The Ford trucks are troopers in the cold.
+Duramax Rules why cause you can't say the same thing about your Chevy
If you say kid in an argument you basically lose all credibility.
***** Even if what was in my picture WAS a ford, that's still a pretty childish argument. It really is a 1978 GMC pickup
***** Well your original comment was pretty idiotic too...
@Exflamed wow your jealous! Haha your truck came from a company that needed bail out from the government! Haha chevy is pure trash!

ohio sucks when it gets cold it can go from 35°F to -14°F just in a night
Brad Bailey Wyoming sucks because not only do you get into the negatives but you get 40-50mph winds with it! Lol
Brad Bailey I live in ohio it does get pretty bad!
Mrjoecreeper yes bro! Agreed! Where u at here in WY?
brad i'm originally from jersey and pa..you can keep that 4 letter word up there..i love the south

cold starts.. Pfft! Shit isn't cold! Try living in Minnesnowta
I'm not inclined to try that
Minnesota? Try Canada. Where I live we get -40F sometimes
+Mezz Does Games try in Michigan-20
I'm no genius but I believe -40 is colder than -20, I live in Canada too, I drive diesel and diesels don't like to start here in winter
+Sawyer kehus I drive a Duramax and a TDI Jetta, neither like to start lol
you can always rely on your LS for a cold start
if my cars will sit over the winter i take out the battery and put the battery indoors
You could get a float charger installed on your car, just plug it in when you expect it to sit. I use mine even when its just sitting over night. Never have to worry about a dead battery again. Unless you set up your charger wrong, and over cook your battery.
Cosmin Capitaneanu what?
He probably doesn't live some place cold enough to know what you mean..
up here in northern lower Michigan a booster pack is a must for cold starts on anything that sits for a bit, I enjoy watching your videos keep em up
Things failing to start at -4*C is a little bit embarrassing to be honest! Sort it out ;)
Because the VW beetle 1938 and CAT 1966 have a bad battery
Nice, so many cool old cars!
oh boy 28 ddegrees try -30 to -60 degrees through the winter, nice video though
Yeah it's like that in North Dakota
i used these venal patches i found at auto zone on a rip in my seat and its holding up ab 5 years later, not o mention it blends in perfect
