Great video! I'm glad you've found a balance with the Dolphin... lol It really is a wonderful plane when it's all dialed in and working well. I love the tape on the wings! Great chase footage from Toby!
In INAV we trust - Autolaunch is always now my default. I've never had a bouncy landing like that, though if you go too slow on your approach it will snap stall
Fantastic, dude! It's great to know the upgrades were worth it! 😃 About auto trim, you can activate it 100% of the time in the general tab I believe... Many people do it and it never causes any issues. Anyway, stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
I had similar problems when launching, even with autolaunch. It was fixed by a combination of: -quite high idle throttle and relatively low launch throttle to minimise torque roll -when throwing the plane, hold it right above your shoulder by the skids, and throw it straight to the front. If you keep it to the right of you, trying to keep distance from the propeller, when you finish the throw, you will release the skids unevenly and input additional roll.
Yeah I ended up also using a fairly high idle throttle in combination with a low launch throttle. Certainly helps to not have the motor running full speed on launch! And yeah I'm slowly figuring out the exact way to throw the plane, but certainly trying to keep it as level as possible helps!
I always had torque roll with autolaunch, it did like two rolls before it stabilized but always continued flying but it was scare and the reason was too much throttle but mainly my throwing technique. I was throwing it like a wing, holding it by the wind and side tossing. Then I saw some guys throw it like a dart and I was first afraid of my fingers but then tried it and it launches perfectly. Have exactly the same battle scars as you on mine. Your landing seems to fast. Have a longer slowdown phase near the ground and flare up. The nose tends to get stuck on taller grass tho.
Yeah you definetly need to throw it like a paper plane, you gotta keep the wings level during the throw, really helps a lot. Yeah I did say in the video that the specific landing I showed was a bit fast, but even in slower landings I'm still seeing the bounce. Very strange lol
I have about 20 landings on mine, and haven't had the bou0nce issue? Maybe that TPU nose is the culprit, as you mention? I'm still running the stock motor on the included pink prop (I think it's a 5"?) and will upgrade the motor and prop combo soon, thanks for the tip on the F90
That's interesting. It must be my tpu nose then thats causing the issue. It bounces on every single landing, no matter how fast or slow i bring it in lol. F90 is 100% the motor to go for :)
@@gizfpv So I've watched that portion of the vid @ 7:33 a few times, (can you blame me?!), and my dude, you're coming in _Hot!_ Maybe cut back on that throttle while feeding in some up elevator, Angle Mode and a headwind helps here, until you're crawling, then give her a little flare to Elevator her back to ground level. *plop* Of course the heavier she is, that harder all of that will be?!
@@GhostRyderFPV Haha, in my defence I wasn't actually the one flying when that landing was done, I was letting my mate have a go at flying it lol. I usually do slow down and flare etc, but as I said in the video the damm thing still bounces on landing even when coming in slow. Its strange, but kinda funny lol
That's impressive. So far my longest flight has been around 30 mins. I think if I was careful I might get 45 mins, but that would be max with my 3000mah 4s li-ion pack (18650s). I need to get a 21700 pack for sure
As for the autotune and changes on servo horns. Autotune adjusts FF value which basically limits the throws of elevons. Instead of doing 10minutes of flying in autotune I suggest you create a second OSD layout that is active when autotune is enabled. On this layout display PIDs and FF for roll and pitch. Doing autotune then you'll notice FF values to change. When they stop changing (and this happens usually after a one or two minute aggresive flight) you are done with autotune for a given axis. This is way better than blindly doing autotune. Running mine on F90 1300kv with 8x6 / 8x5 props. Easy launches on autolaunch and pretty efficient too. 75mAh/km at 70ish km/h speed.
I've heard nothing but good things about this AtomRC Dolphin. I'm a longtime lurker in the FPV field, only very limited RC experience with a quadcopter drone really, but I want to lean fixed wing to do some [ultimately] long range FPV . Could you see a newbie starting with this airframe?
This is not a beginner's plane. The rear engine requires special attention during takeoff. It flies very well but there are planes that are easier to launch.
If you're new to fixed wing, I wouldn't reccomend the Dolphin. Get yourself a dual engine aircraft such as the Heewing T1 or the AtomRC Swordfish. They're both much more stable aircraft that are easier to fly and much more forgiving to a new pilot :)
There's a maneuver called flare which means flying close to ground for a few seconds while landing to decrease the ground effect by loosing somebspeed. You need to do that m
Land it Goggles up....there are FAR more visual cues landing LOS....You have to slow it up and bleed off the speed. Thats more difficult to see under the Goggles....Its just a fact because its subtle....🤔😏😏😏😏🇬🇧

Great upgrades and tips. Amazing flight footage, almost looked CGI.
great to see you got it flying better!
Thanks for the update!

Super love the quad footage !!!!!! Great job Lads 🤗😉😎
Never had a problem bouncing when landing. It all depends on the weight of the plane, the heavier it is, the more speed will be required when landing.
That footage looks great - Autolauch is AWESOME, always use it

I'm having this exact problem...I have my launch throttle at 1750 and I'm getting a big loop on every toss
these are great platforms, i encourage everyone to look at this plane first
I always have continuous trim on for inav planes. works like a charm
Hi, where can I find that reflective adhesive coating? Is it holographic paper? Thanks!

I use emax eco 1700kv with 7x4,5 prop. I try to keep it below 4A. That gives me over 1h on 4S 21700 4000mah pack. I love it.

How does that pack size & weight wise and also how does that motor feel power and speed wise ?
What prop did you use mate ???

Are you using 4s or 6s with the F90 1300kv?
Wonder if it’s less likely to bounce if you used tk pointy nose cone vs the flat one. I think the flat one will catch on any small mound of grass?
Can I ask you what your autolaunch settings are? I have the stock motor (for now)

It's the nose causing the bounce. The normal nose it won't bounce
Have fun while it lasts.
Visma is the guy I joined fpv again after many years!
Hi friend, I'm writing to you from Italy, I would like to know your opinion about the standard FC, is it worth replacing it with a FC Matek?
There's a maneuver called flare which means flying close to ground for a few seconds while landing to decrease the ground effect by loosing somebspeed. You need to do that m
Do you have a link to that vinyl? Looks awesome.

@gizfpv
Your a star thank you
I almost bought another dolphin but instead went with a second Strix Goblin 👹
i fly mine flat nose a ok landing wings are thin in my opinion bad landing spar can pop through but saying that im on no5 dolphin ii do like em
How to landing inav wing

Great advice
I would, but I'm a terrible LOS pilot lol. I need to make a effort to learn LOS lol
@@gizfpv Just practice the landings then....LOS...you WILL land softer ...I GUARANTEE it....🤔😳😏
What prop are you using now?
Still using the stock prop
Are you using a 6*4 prop
Looks like gemfan 6042
Still using the stock prop
You are landing too fast.
I did say in the video that the specific landing I showed was a bit fast, but that in other landings that are slower I'm still having the same bounce issue on landing
Holographic tapes improving speed are a joke really?
No joke, did you never put 'go faster stripes' on your first car ?
No, they actually improve speed, it's physics, read about the holographic universe, I can't explain here it's too complicated.
Where did you get your holographic tape? It reminds me of the Oakley Iridium lenses. I did my fastest 10K races while wearing those glasses :-)
