I don't get why you want to have a stretchable spine without at least something to show you to what extent you stretched it, because just like this it seems to me you're bound to alter slightly the length of your creature constantly when you animate it. That doesn't seem like a good thing to me ... Am I missing something ?

was there going to be anything on how to hook up the rest of the hierarchy up to the ribbon spine? Or how to have one end follow another? (like with a neck. Need the head to move independently but also follow the base)

This is a really nice tutorial. I found it pretty easy to follow. Do you plan to do more tutorials? I've already watched part 2. How would you go about tackling the tail?

Glad you enjoy the series so far. I have been swamped with work lately but do plan to pick this project up again in the next few weeks. The next part of the series will be front leg setup.
As for the tail... I usually just go with an FK setup which is pretty straight forward but since there's interest I might setup an Ik/FK blend option to it.

would this work for a horse neck as well? (probably a dumb question XD)

Yea, absolutely. You can use a ribbon for lots of different things but applying this same technique to a long quadruped neck like a horse should be pretty straight forward.

+Corey Ross sweet, thank you :) I'm rigging a pegasus...now I just need to know how to swap between IKFK without resetting the bind chain to its default position...

you mean that you want to switch between IK and FK and maintain its current pose? Some people call that IK/FK matching. Heres a video on the subject: ua-cam.com/video/MBRJjxU-Lwk/v-deo.html
Its part of a whole series so it is meant to work with his IK/FK setup. So if your IK/FK setup is similar to his, it should work.

+Corey Ross I HAVE BEEN LOOKING FOR THIS FOR MONTHS!!!! THANK YOU :D (I asked like 3 or 4 riggers and no one answered me. I didn't even know what it was called >_>) really, thank you. Last thing I needed to do this rig for my demo reel :D :D :D

would it be difficult to also have an FK setup on top of the ribbon with both controlling the back? (kind of like the spine setup in the old Maya '08 Introduction to Character Rigging book)
(I've never used a ribbon before, can you tell?)
