A buddy of mine is going through the same thing on an 87 F150 5.0L. This is gonna be our weekend project next weekend. Your video is extremely informative. Great job.
Excellent video! I'm experiencing the exact same problem right now, but twisted off three bolts. Going to throw a new timing chain and gear set on also. I have a UA-cam channel also, May out a link to this video on my channel, you did a great job of explaining everything. so did you hear the bolt before extracting? I'm restoring my 1994 F150 and this is the point I'm at. What a pain. Didn't plan on getting into it this deep but what can ya do?
Thank You... Great Video.... Experiencing the exact same situation... Changing out a bad waterpump on my 96 Ford F150 5.0 and three of the bolts broke off. Super informative. Liked, Commented, Shared and Subscribed! Thank You Again!
I’ve got a 1988 f150 that’s been parked in my barn for more than 10 years with this same problem. The bolts snapped when I attempted to change the water pump. I tried everything I knew to get them out to no avail . It was just a beater work truck, and I had an alternate vehicle, so I just parked the Ford and there it has sat all these years. After seeing this vid, I’m inspired to finally see if I can get the bolts out. I’ve already ordered a stud puller. Fingers crossed! Of course after sitting for that long who knows what other issues have developed. 😖
that is true you never know what's going on well I hope you get the broken stud out if you do house invisible stud try to heat it up with something try to get the stud hot that would help you a lot thank you for watching and have a good day
I have a 1984 Datsun with a mild build ford 302 (a mix of explorer and mustang parts). I was very worried about the water pump bolts....I was lucky they all came out. They had so much corrosion on them!! During re installation, I cleaned the bolts, and used plenty of anti-seize compound. I use anti seize on many bolts (brake bleeders)
you sir are a genious. This EXACT same thing happened to me on the same freakin engine. AND the same bold too!! I'm going to try this, thank you very much!
Please please please what year and size are we working On please without that I'm stuck because the way you explained it is so perfect and beautiful anybody could understand I just need to know what year year of my van
Its looking like the timing covers gotta come off on my Bonneville.. My 4 small bolt heads all broke off and can't even get the pump off so. What a PITA.
thanks buddy! I just broke off a water pump bolt on my e38 bmw today. there's no bolt sticking out, it's all screwed in there. I was torqueing too too much :L Hopefully they will have a method for removal at the auto parts store here. I was going to just try running the car with only 5 of 6 bolts in it. Probably it will leak where the missing bolt is, and will have to be fixed, but I really just wanted to get it running again - for the first time in over a year. ben sitting there like a junk yard fixture.
just take your time you can do it if it's broke off to the block you will have Center Drilling it if that's the case if you can get a left-hand bit sometimes a bit with snag and it will reverse the boat out with a little luck it will just screw itself right out when you are through Drilling heat the boat up with something Splash it with cold water heat it back up Splash it with cold water repeat this progress several times and hope it reverses itself out if it don't you will have to get some easy out AutoZone discount and they will have the Easy Out tool and by this time you'll be shouting with joy thank you man have a good day
good video, you get the replaced parts from which supplier? I know a chinese supplier, named chogqing feilong jiangli, supply water pump, oil dipsticks.
I have a 1987 F350 motorhome i started changing my waterpump and the last two bolts broke of what a pain in the rear. Im trying to take timing cover but it want move because of the very long broken bolts im going to have to cut the cover with some kind of saw or cutting tool this really sucks
just the head broke off one of my bolts, got almost to the first knuckle of my index finger sticking out water pump off going to try and get me a stud puller? thanks
Oh Hell No!!!!!! Ah man I gotta go thru all that just to drill out the broken stud and put in a heli coil! ? By the way...... Titan makes a nice chuck type stud removal tool that doesn't have the large footprint like the cam style tools. My stud broke off in the block behind the timing cover. I was thinking about machining a bushing that I can place inside the bolt hole of the timing cover that would be used as a guide for drilling out the bolt dead center. But still need to figure out how to tap and insert a helicoil through the timing cover. Man I would do most anything to avoid all that is involved in removing that cover. I wish the engineers at Ford all the best Karma that they deserve for such stupid fastener system used on this application!
This guy is like a country doctor....just knows how to do stuff and even address problems. Sir well done!
just called me doctor James thanks for watching
😢

you can do it thanks for watching
I'm, going threw it right now, ty for video friend
you can do it
JAMES johnson it's coming off little by little and lots of Wd-40
You have to weld a washer and nut to get that stud out
You spend $30 on seals gasket and prrmatex but did not change a $9 chain that's crazy. Lot work but you make it looks easy
thanks for watching my video
excuse my ignorance but how do did you remove the balancer pulling? it rotates when I try to remove the 4 bolts:/
hit your rent with a hammer counter clock or use electric impact or use a air impact
what's the name of the tool you used to extract the bolt? mine has at least 3 broke off, luckily they're long enough to get ahold of
look up stud remover Advance Auto and at AutoZone it's about $20
quick question, when replacing the harmonic balancer is it necessary to adjust timing?
No don't worry about the timing what you doing has nothing to do with the timing
isfel no
Where did you buy that bolt puller
I've looked in every auto part and no one has it
look up stud remover Advance Auto and at AutoZone it's about $20
like I say I'm just a wannabe thank you very much
how did you get the second broken bolt out??
I don't remember it's been 3 or 4 years ago
awesome video
Thank you very much
What kind of tool was that and where can I get it?
Melinda A It's a harmonic balancer puller , and you can rent one from your local auto parts store like Auto-zone.
Oh Hell No!!!!!!

Are you by chance from Pike County, MS?
how about Albany Georgia thanks for asking
OK you sounded like a guy I grew up around in Summit, MS, named James Henry Johnson. He used to fix my car when I was young.
@@jamesjohnson6593
Good vid !
james Johnson what state do you live in?
+Kim Carter I'm originally from Georgia move to Florida 20 years ago.
I know what you mean about the hood latch, I put a towel over that stupid thing 5mins in to the work
Always degrease the engine before working on it.

Cool I didn't know that thank you very much
