    My supervisor took a 90min paid break, so I took it upon myself to do my best to keep the flow of work going instead of standing around doing nothing. He came back and complained at me for doing it wrong as if it is my responsibility to know how to do his job he wasn't doing at all. Told him to shove it and block his number. Never looked back.
    It was a long time coming. I had been dealing with his disrespectful behavior for months. If he couldn't handle the work not getting done to his standards while he slacked off, he could handle it by himself.

    Story 5 is so relatable to my dad. He used to work for the city. Always wanted to be a garbage man. They earned well and he respected the men who could come collect the garbage. They kept the city clean and loved being outside. When he finally got the job he was happy. He did everything he was supposed to do. My dad is a bit of a clean freak and perfectionist so he always went above and beyond on his routes.
    Now most garbage trucks are 2 man (women too) trucks. Meaning 2 garbage men (or women) and 1 driver. My dad started off on a 2 man truck but his partner hated him. He complained because he couldn't slow around with my dad. He didn't want to pick up certain things even though they were supposed to clean the alley as they went. He was just a lazy worker and with my dad there, especially being newer, he kept getting reprimanded and told to be better like him. He yelled at my dad one day to stop showing off and tried to fight him. Luckily their supervisor was coming to check on them and my dad said he either moved him to a one man truck or he was gonna kill him. He was dead serious and was moved to a one man truck.
    For years he loved it. His routes were great. They were kept clean and the elderly people loved him, garbage men aren't supposed to go into yards but my dad would always go to help them. Even racking up leaves if he saw a lot of them. He had a good reputation basically. His supervisors started putting him on more routes. Cleaning up after 2 man trucks because they were being slow or didn't get everything. At one point he was just given 2 man routes as a one man. He powered through until his body started giving out. I was sentient at this time lol and could see the scars all over him. He was constantly getting hurt on the job and he would just play it off. As I got older I started crying about him constantly getting hurt and didn't like it so he eventually moved back to a 2 man truck to ease my mind. (Thanks dad ❤).
    He was ok with it. He hated working with others again but acknowledged the workload was better now. His partner was female this time and they were cool friends. She worked well and did her job she just didn't do more of what was asked of them. Dad understood and was fine as long as they got their actual job done. They had a good run until she became pregnant and left the job. I believe she got an office position in the same branch. The ward my dad worked in had a small off where people coordinated the trucks and what not. She was still around just not on the field is all I know. He went back to being a one man and shit really hit the fan.
    During this time we didn't have a lot of money. Most of it went into a failing house, stacked bills, and a bunch of other necessities. Dad worked overtime and extra days a lot. He was always tired. Parades weren't fun anymore because I all that crap on the ground was just extra work for my dad. He always brought back tons of candy tho. Always made sure we had a happy birthday or a Merry Christmas even if it had to be a couple weeks later. We got fun food like pizza and McDonald's. We knew we were struggling but dad had it. Dad got it covered. But he was breaking. His back was giving out in his late 30s early 40s. He catnapped then worked. Eventually he got so hurt while working he had to get surgery to fix it. Even tho he got hurt on the job they didn't want to pay his fees so he had to sue. That also took a lot of time and money that he didn't have because he wasn't working while recovering from surgery. It was just a lot. I wanted to get a part time job to help but he said no. Be a kid. Me and my brother took care of him post surgery. Gave him his medicine and pumped this ice air thing the hospital gave my dad on his surgery spot. He was in bad shape but when able went back there! We asked him why and he said he couldn't just quit. He had a pension and was close to retiring since he started there young. He'd lose the health insurance and the house. We were mad at his job. At his superiors. He told his boss he couldn't lift that bed. It had rained and it soaked up too much water. They made him do it anyways and he tore the tendons in his shoulder. He was suffering and his supervisor had the gale to say "i didn't know it'd be that heavy" bullshit 😡 ugh ending this rant.
    Anyways he got better, won the court battle after I think 2 years, paid the medical bills and lawyers fee, ect. He was nice enough to give me and my brother $1000 each from his winnings. He wanted us to have some fun after being in a dark place for so long. I appreciated him so much for it. Still do. Those months were fun. When he was working he changed tho. He wasn't as nice anymore, always polite but not like how he used to be. He didn't do a lot at work. He actually refused to do alleys. Started working on street baskets which are way easier but hella nasty. Before if he didna basket run he'd clean the whole street. Get all the trash up. After the surgery he only got the trash up from around the cans. There was a big difference in his work effort and he was called out on it. In response he just got his union on his supervisors asses. They backed off but wasn't happy. His final years there wasn't the best. He had a complaint almost every day. We'd give his boss the finger when we drove past the ward 😂 never while he was looking but dad knew lol. We all talked shit about them as a family 😂.
    Dad's retired now. Whenever we drive past his old routes he likes shake his head and ask me to you remember how clean i used to keep this place? I'd say yea. And he would just shake his head and rant a bit. He misses the early days of his job. Doesn't regret working there but wishes he just went to a different ward.
    Sorry for typing a lot ending up ranting and reminiscing 😅

      i have a microcosm of this at home, years without structure, suddenly clicked after getting decent medication (add) turns out that i must have gotten it from my dad but the thing is, I still cleaned up after myself if it would otherwise fall on others, my dad doesn't and it infuriates me and trust me the way he'd even pawn his work off on you you'd be pissed to,
      so suddenly i started to deep clean the house and around it, but every single time he shows ZERO understanding, doesn't even clean his muddy boots never mind taking them off, never cleans after himself in the simplest ways, move plate to the sink "that's woman work" truth is that he is mentally ill but he refuses to see it

    Lunch and transport need to be provided to workers doing overtime. Got asked to do a shift+overtime last minute, made it in late, boss chewed into me on the floor screaming I'll have no lunch and no transport (despite the fact they asked me to come in last minute) so i took 5 tables orders, put them trough, tore up the order sheet and quite as they came out.

    When after 2 years of vocal favoritism towards a worker, at one point literally saying "Well, I really wanted to offer the job to X but they don't have the experience" and using me as a pack mule with no respect for my life at all (my cat died and she didn't even give me a single day off). I quit when she demoted me because X employee was doing better, after knowing X hated the boss and did just as little as I did.

    The two week notice thing drives me nuts, cause if they are gonna lay you off to cut labor costs they sure as heck aren't gonna give you two week notice. I can understanding giving such notice in a competitive industry or niche one where keeping the good will of former employers is kinda needed but there are alot of jobs where giving that two weeks does nothing for you at all.

    Pro-tip: If an ex-employer threatens to withhold your final paycheck for not turning in your uniforms (or for any reason at all, for that matter), report them to the labor board, or whatever local equivalent you have. Because the worst they can do is deduct the value of the uniforms from your final check, they *CANNOT* withhold your check from you past the time the law says you should receive it by, for any reason. That's considered wage theft, and is *extremely* illegal.

    In that resort story, I would be tempted to bring my uniform in crumpled up in a plastic bag. If they say something, I would respond "Can you prove this isn't how I received my uniform?"

    I went shopping at an electronics store during the 1980’s. It was one of those chilly and drizzly Bay Area days that went right through your clothes.
    I find what I wanted and was on line when this girl tries to get a conversation with me about her boyfriend had bought the same item and it broke down, good thing he had the extended warranty. This chick had no outerwear on, hair not frizzing out, definitely hasn’t been out in the weather outside. My comment to her was “I don’t need a shill telling me to buy a warranty.” Then motion her to leave me. That product never malfunctioned.

    Story 6: Did OP actually tell the Corporate guy about the boss storming into their house? Because I'm sure that's grounds for harrassment.

    • @Icalasari
      @Icalasari 6 місяців тому +6

      What OP got in the end is the minimum HR and Legal would have probably done to ensure they don't get wrecked in court, along with firing that boss HARD. The fact that the boss _still has a job after that_ tells me that either OP _did not tell corporate_ that or that OP missed the chance for a MASSIVE windfall with that lawsuit
      Can you say, "I no longer feel safe in my own home because this man stormed in and shouted at me in my BEDROOM where I could have been NAKED"?

  • @Icalasari
    @Icalasari 6 місяців тому +8

    Story 6 - Nuh uh, no, I'd be demanding to speak to HR and make it VERY clear that I no longer feel safe in my own home and that lawyers are getting involved no matter what so they can either side with me or with the boss, and that I am sure their legal team would damned well tell them to side with me

    Was being harassed by three guys at one job: they'd play porn on their phones loud enough for the girls working to hear, locked us in the trailer after closing and left us to scream bloody murder cause cause the long haul truckers never checked if people were trapped, threw items at us while working, and worse. One day I overheard the guys planning something even more f#cked up to do to us and told the head manager........ He told us to stop making up stuff to get the boys in trouble. I asked for a harassment complaint form and was told to leave and not comeback. So I put everything those "boys" had done to us girls during the last six months on their yelp review sight and included dates and pictures. I got a call within an hour to let me know I still had my job and wed discuss the guys when I came back. I asked if they were going to be fired for anything they've done they said no so I told them I'm not coming back and that review stays up

    First job.... Worked there 2 years.... This small town mini amusement park.... Some go carts, a slide, laser tag, kitchen/ food/ birthday party area ( fries, fried food, pizza type stuff)
    So been there 2 years.... Akways working in rides/ laser tag ( never kitchen) found out new hires are coming in at 25¢ an hr more, but I'm not complaining cause they've had me almost exclusively doing Laser Tag , my favorite position. One day I'm told to gi clean the grease traps in the kitchen. Took one look and quit right then and there.

    Workplace of mine showed similar disregard to my health and several other employee's. One worker cried while on break and several walked out and never came back. It was the 3-4th time they put my health and safety last that I walked out without telling any of the management who got under my skin. Granted not all of my managers are pricks, but some were just enough I left. I signed a write-up on my next scheduled day, and then following the next I pretty much huffed at my GM who told me if I was okay. Told her "Im just tryin to get my tasks done that effect my break." One manager that I admire is a lax but fun guy, tells me he doesn't want me fired. I told him I didn't care, job was not worth stickin around and I plan on leavin it soon. He chuckled, he's a really understanding guy and I would love more managers and bosses like him.

    One of my friends worked for this clothing chain as an accountant in their headquarters. They had 3 chains based on family names. He worked there for awhile when they outsourced their HR department. On the face of it it didn’t seem to matter. After his first year he got notification that he earned a block of stock. He was bewildered by this but made his investigation quiet. It turns out in the HR transition someone put his years of service as 10 years not 10 months. This company also had a reputation of firing people before they could reach 10 years. After 2 years he left, the stock was safely in his hands and had split once.

    A chain pizza place, like out country's equivalent of domino's started a promo for a new spicy pizza. A classmate went to the restaurant for the promo and saw a lady who finished hers run to the barthroom and loundly close the door behing her. After like half an hour she came out and left the restaurant. An employee went in to clean it, she screamed "I QUIT" then the manager sent the other female enployee he had to clean it, she peeked inside the barthroom, and started a shouting match with the manager, something about demanding a raise to clean that barthroom or unless she would also quit

    I still miss my old job. It was a fairly easy work. Read the information from 300-400 property maps and then place them in correct files. You can't leave until 5pm, but the rate you do the maps is up to you. If I was in a good groove, I could probably finish my whole stack maps before 10:30am. Though I normally do 200 in the morning, and 200 in the afternoon. If I'm not feeling welling in morning I can shift more to the afternoon, and vice versa. Boss never complained as at the end of the day I was meeting quota, and there was no incentive to work beyond it.

    Oh this is an easy one for me. I had a job at a bank and I swear I've never met a ruder group of people in my life working at the place. It felt more like a click you'd find in high school than anything else and from the outside I know for a fact it looked fun. I mean who wouldn't want to go to a place where everyone was laughing and smiling and being friendly.
    But that sort of was the problem because they made it very clear very early on that I was not welcome there, or at the very least they had an odd idea of what training was. The first month was actually pretty nice, friendly, I was given test to take and so on, but once we got to the real job I quickly found out a few problems. For starters, and the main reason, every time I had a question of any kind I was always met with a rude smile and them either ignoring me or repeating what I said. Like say "Hey how do I do this?" And then I'd be met with "I don't know, how do you do that?" Which I think they expected me to know the answer but if I did why the hell was I coming up and asking them in the first place. By the end I just said I have no idea or would go back to the person I was waiting on and be blunt. "I have no freaking idea sorry, go to someone else" This was about a month before me quitting.
    Another person who worked there just didn't like me, would be actively rude or insult my work, which again I could have done better if I knew things and they answered questions for me. She was the worst because she had a hearing problem and used it as an excuse to just flat out ignore me, which a co-worker at the time said she did that all the time when she didn't want to talk to someone. I will also admit I was struggling and had to go to the highest up boss to let them know why. See I suffer from Autism and as a result have a hard time working in chaotic environments... So shortly after that I found my work load got worse, I was ignored more and it was clear that they wanted me out. The place was also full of the type of people who thought that stuff like Autism was caused by vaccines so I must be against trump so why help me, clearly I'm the enemy. (They never said this but within a day of telling the higher up boss in the building this there was a clear change)
    Clearly it just didn't work and finally after my trainer yelled at me for a mistake (Seeming almost happy about it) I had to investigate and found out I did the job correctly, even taking it to the big boss who told her that I did do it right as I had proof. Obviously nothing changed from this but that's when I said I'd just leave. The job was hell everyone was rude and I just didn't fit in. Worst part is the job paid pretty well, I wish I could have kept it but that's the kind of place where if you don't fit in you'll be bullied. Funny enough even the members at the bank were kind of mean (But to be fair people can be touchy with money so I let it slide, I wasn't getting the help I needed anyway so I understand that they'd be mad I couldn't do what I was told) But still I've worked in fast food and retail before and I've never seen people who clearly have never grown up in my life than the people who worked at this bank. I kid you not it was like a group of 60+ year old women acting no different than a 9th grader brat sometimes.
    My advise I learned from this is find a place that's friendly, or if you struggle with stuff like me at least find a place that's understanding. Due to my problem I'm forced to go to therapy and clearly struggle on my own, resources provided in places like this can help you get to places that are a lot better. And of course check some of the work place reviews you can find online. IDK the sites but there are some I've learned to check since I had this job and they are very helpful in finding me places to work
