I bought my TrimUI Smart Pro with the 64GB micro SD. The card was generic but functional, so I copied the games and firmware onto a 128GB PNY micro SD card. I've enjoyed my Smart Pro since I bought it. It's a beast with arcade games and N64 games. The sticks aren't optimal, but I've gotten used to them, and they're very tatsu-friendly.
It's crazy to see these things at $99. Where did you buy yours? I have a Miyoo Mini Plus from MechDIY & noticed their site has the TrimUI Smart Pro for $99.99.
I dont really have a need for this device, but the look of this hits that nostalgic itch for me perfectly. I loved the PSP, loved the PS Vita... a retro device that has that same look (and I'm a sucker for RGB)... I think I'm sold. Thanks for the review.
About the FN switch: With the newest firmware you can decide what the button does, whether to toggle performance mode, mute the volume, turn off leds and more. The firmware also added support for external storage using exFat and NTFS (however MicroSD must be FAT32 when updating firmware). Regarding NDS performance: Had no issues playing the Legend of Zelda: The Phantom Hourglass, Spirit Tracks and New Super Mario on this.
Great review. It's cool to see that after 4 months, several of the negative points mentioned have been fixed, either by the original firmware, or by the community. The DS gaming experience is great with the new Drastic
I know! It seems really outdated now that there have been updates. I’m glad the DS has been improved. It’s an easier device to recommend now. Thanks for watching, and have a great Sunday! 🙂
Your comment on the extended process to update the firmware made me think of getting pirated games to work on multiplayer back in the day when i use to have a monthly Lan. There was so many hacks and software to run to get the old call of duty modern warfare 2 or 3 to run and play multiplayer! one of my buddies use to say it felt like you had to go to get a degree before you could play the game with friends.
I totally agree with you on the custom firmware. I watched a ton of reviews and felt confident on picking one up, and I'm not disappointed by any means, but I did get a cheap SD card totally nameless with just a 64 printed on it. Thought that was strange. Hoping somebody breaks this puppy wide open soon. All in all, I'm pretty pleased.
Do you mind me asking where you bought it from? The differences in the sd card really baffles me. Some great custom firmware would do wonders for this!
Looking for a handheld to replace my broken PSP. I might go for this device, since the TrimUI is only a few bucks more than a used PSP, where I am from.
Great content (as always) and interesting review! For me the negatives (bad joysticks, mediocre triggers and no cfw) are disappointing..other wise it would have been nearly perfect for this price point
Thanks, dadou! I probably should’ve mentioned the stiff triggers, but I actually don’t find them to be a hindrance to gameplay. They are hard to push down though. I agree it could’ve been a must-buy with a couple of adjustments. But… that’s why the thumbnail says “Mostly Almost Fantastic”. 😂 Thanks for watching!
My RGB30 came with a KoiXia card. I've never heard of them, but I've been using it for 5 months and it seems alright. Glad you're enjoying the Smart Pro. Make sure the "Fn" switch is in the right position to get the full power of the system!
That sounds great! Unfortunately, I had to sell this so I could afford the next handheld I was reviewing. So there won't be any updated reviews on this one. Sorry about that.
They're pretty similar. I would say base your decision on what kind of games you prefer to play. Also, I did a versus video between those two and the Powkiddy RGB30 on the channel. You should check that out. Thanks for watching, and I hope that helps!
I got this device on a whim when I saw it on sale. I paid $54 shipped which I couldn't pass on. The more I use it the more I'm liking it. My only real gripe is the sticks are just meh. The stock OS has sufficed for me which is a first. With the bigger screen it's the first device I've setup moonlight on besides back in the day when moonlight first arrived on the scene, I used it on a laptop. Got that working and played a bit of Hollow Knight and was tickled. Will I keep using it for that....maybe. I can always play games like Hollow Knight on my Steam deck natively or streaming, that said, it's much easier to sit and play for a little bit on a small device like this. The Steam deck is great but it is bigger and heavier and I feel like more of a commitment when choosing to sit and play with it. First world problems, am I right?
Truth be told? I bought this to be a handheld device to play some old playstation 1 games from way back when I was younger. The lack of R3 and L3 are a touch off putting, but I think it should work just fine.
It does. For most of what this plays there's no need for R3 and L3. You're right. I just like to use them as hotkeys for the emulators. Thanks for watching!
Mine plays ds well. I always see this comment that the ds emulation is bad on this device. Im currently playing chrono trigger on the ds with my trimui smart pro.
Can I ask if you had to adjust anything in the settings and if what? I was having an issue and thought about uninstalling the emulator and ROMs, probably just the ROMs and hide the emulator from the list. This does have that feature to clean up the screen

I'll definitely screw that up". 😅 ,...just make sure the card you use to update is Fat32.
Mine came set to the left as well. I moved it immediately to the right. It is weird because there's no documentation in the box that tells you what it's for. But the best I can tell it essentially throttles the power, lowering the performance but increasing the battery life. It makes 3D run a lot worse when it's set to the left. Thanks for watching!
Ive been considering buy a reto hamdheld but I always think that most these games would run better on my phone. Have you considered doing any videos doing emulation on a Samsung device?

I would absolutely consider it, but I don't own any Samsung or Android devices right now. I do have some mobile controller reviews on my channel though if you'd like to check those out. In your review , I have a request: Can you please test Tomb Raider Anniversary (PSP) in your review. I keep asking if it's playable and NO ONE has confirmed if it is or not. Please do a test! It's a hard game to emulate so if the Trimui can play it, it's pretty impressive at this price point (for some perspective, my Anbernic RG353ps cannot play it.. the frame rate goes way low despite all my attempts to tweak etc). Sorry. The recording has been done for a while. I just got around to editing recently. But it’s finished. I do not have that game, so I didn’t test it. Sorry. 😬 I CAN say that this is the best PSP handheld under $100 on the market. At least that I’ve seen and tested. Sorry I can’t be of more help.

nice video. 1 question. after entering the sub menu (the categories page), how do i exit and go back to main menu without shutting it off completely and restart the OS ?
Hi there.🙋♂️ I just saw this video, and for quite sometime I been wanting to get this handheld for myself. Do you really need to update it to the latest firmware? Can I play the built it arcade games and SNES and Sega Master System games without updating the firmware?🕹🎮
Sure. It will run those lower end systems just fine without any updates. But the updates do provide quality of life changes to the OS and updates to the emulators that can help things run smoother, especially on higher end systems like the N64. So, if you are able and have access to a computer, it is advisable to do the update. But if not, you can still play a lot of things on here and have a good time.
@@BoKnowsGaming I have another question for you. I would like to be sure (with my luck) that it has most of the games I would like to play on this handheld from most of the old game systems especially the arcade games. Should I get the 128gb or 256gb?🤔
I only had the 64gb card, so I can't say for sure what comes on the others. But if I were you, I'd go with the 128gb. That's probably the sweet spot. I imagine the 256 is probably bloated with a lot of hacked ROMs and Chinese and Japanese versions of games (which is great unless you only speak English. Haha.) The 128 will have more than you could ever finish playing, and probably most of what you're looking for.

What about the next " TrimUi be like:O!!:O$$
With some of the recent sales down to ~$50 and the MinUI cfw support, big screen, horizontal layout with good ergonomics, great battery life... there's a lot to like about this in the price range, maybe even as a dedicated GBA device. I'm not a PSP person and the N64 performance isn't enough for me to recommend it for that (as well as the awful sticks rendering N64 basically unplayable anyway) but for the classic GB/GBC/GBA/SNES on a big screen horizontal I think this is a really solid choice.
There’s definitely been a lot of improvements made on the software side since my review. And the price keeps dropping. So it’s a pretty compelling purchase at this point. 👍
I just got mine last week and its good, a bit overlaoded with multi game a cartridges think 3 in 1 or 400 in 1 with same game and then the game itself too. Streamline the games in yours and you can open up quite a bit of space. Only complaint really was the joystick and most mario games were either not their mario 64 or even SuperMarioWorld SNES. I have a long list of videos to make lined up already, so I honestly don't know if a video on updating the firmware will be something I get around to. I do apologize for that. But they have instructions on their website. In fact, you can search "TrimUI Smart Pro Firmware Update" and find their page with the files and instructions. Hope that helps!
Hi,got a question here.If i purchased the 64gb variant and want to use my own new sd card.Do i just have to copy and paste the file only or do i have to setup anything? And can i use 512gb sd card with this handheld
I haven't tried this, but I suspect you might need to insert your blank card into the device, THEN boot the device. Upon booting it will most likely create an empty folder system on the card. Then you can put the card in your computer, and drag/drop the ROMs off the old card into the appropriate folders on the new card.
Also, there's been quite a few changes to stock OS since the version you are showing in your review. Including to the emulators. You need to update firmware to 1.0.3 and grab latest SD card base package (not old SD patch)
Not sure where my other reply went. It is Tech Toy Tinker (who has a yt channel) who has shown off progress on tomato. Most of the firmware is NOT what you flash onto the board it's on the SD card. It's actually really extensible
lol better stay away from the Vita man. These sticks are the same and they’re not that bad. Most of the emulation you use this for shouldn’t need a million hotkeys. Otherwise fine review.

But they have instructions on their website. In fact, you can search "TrimUI Smart Pro Firmware Update" and find their page with the files and instructions. Hope that helps!
i cant get DC games to run their CHD format. anyone have issues? PSP CHD works fine tho
I wonder if you could install SteamOS on this instead.
No. That would be cool though. 🙂
What about Dreamcast? R36S is not good for it. And some games for PSP like - Dantes Inferno - impossible to play
Dreamcast was really good on this one.
MinUI supports this device.
Awesome. It looks like the stock is has gotten some improvements since my review too. They keep making it better and that’s really cool to see!
What about GameCube emulation
No. It’s not powerful enough for that.
Chessmix I believe the new firmware or checkmix something like that but it’s great
They've definitely improved a lot of things since my review a few months ago. And I'm glad! It's a much better value now. Thanks for watching!
Wonder if pokemon stadium is on here
I can’t remember. Sorry.
There is TomatoOS in the works
Really? Where did you hear that? I looked all over! I hope that's true though, because I think it could benefit from it.
@@Autotrope I'm using the latest firmware from TrimUI's website in this video.
@@Autotrope The fact that someone is working on TomatoOS for this is fantastic. Thanks for sharing! 🙂
I JUST GOT THE ANBERNIC RG405V ALSO!!
Nice.
lol better stay away from the Vita man. These sticks are the same and they’re not that bad. Most of the emulation you use this for shouldn’t need a million hotkeys. Otherwise fine review.
I know not everyone will agree, but I can't help it. I really don't like those sticks. Otherwise, it's a great device. Thanks for watching! Happy gaming, friend.
The problem with ds is because the versión of drástic is old
Makes sense. It was very frustrating. Maybe it’ll be updated in the future.
Is there 3DS emulator?
No. Not on this. I have a video coming out in a couple of days that has 3DS emulation though. So make sure to subscribe and hit the bell! 🙂
It's a 5.000mAh battery with 5 hours and there is TomatoOS 1.0.
I know! I heard about Tomato OS recently. Sounds promising. 👍
"lets get into it"
Gee haven't heard that before on nearly every other channel on UA-cam
It’s in the UA-cam Terms of Service agreement we all sign. 😉
Should have done updates before review.
I updated the firmware with the update from their site before the review. Was there something else I needed to update?
@@BoKnowsGaming just the front end you was showing didn't seem to have the updates.
