Already having the X28 I can’t say this device appeal to me, but I was curious to see a teardown of it! For a budget/entry hobby device I still think MM+ with Onion OS is a no-brainer: controls, portability, ease of use, it have it all. But as a bigger screen alternative I agree with your conclusion. And yeah like Russ says, you have the best cinematography in the field, hats off dude!
Love this studio set up mate!...just need to soften the audio a dash to reduce the echo....subbed though...solid review on the console...am waiting for mine to be delivered.
I wanted to like this one because of that "consumer grade design," but it doesn't make up for some of the physical short comings. I bought the RGB30 instead and while the screen may be smaller it's still 720p and the performance is better if you do want to play a PSP game or two (Similarly, I've not had much issue with Dreamcast and Switching the DS screen with shoulder buttons is pretty easy), the functionality of the emulators in Jelos is better, you get clickable R3 & L3, and you don't need Tate mode. For generally the same price you get a slightly better experience in my opinion.
Im realising at the end I say the Smart Pro is $89 on GoGameGeek but that’s the version I received. The cheaper version is the 64GB for $79 shrsl.com/4btsa
The concept design defensively was, “make a mobile phone that has portable console’s adds on. This is definitely a devise for traveling or nostalgia 30-40year olds. As for gamers standards it is another level
I received mine last week, a black one, and i absolutely love it. It is so nice and good for value, that i decided to post a review in Italian on my yt channel
I was waiting for this one, Adin, great review! On the performance of the Smart Pro, as you said, this is not the final production mode device, so it has no thermals, according to Tech Toy Tinker (who is developing Tomato OS for this device) the units being tested by most UA-camrs are clocked at a lower speed (1.2 mhz) to prevent overheating. He has been using a production level device clocked at 1.6 mhz which has been giving him better performance in higher systems, so we may get to see big improvements on performance with Custom OSs that are being developed by the community, which should make playable most of the PSP catalog, specially considering that the device's max speed is 2.1 mhz.
Ah that makes sense because production units are getting a heat sink. It’s a bit of a fail that they never sent us production ready units. I may need to get one in for testing. TomatoOS sounds amazing
They should always send units in their final state to reviewers, at the end the customers may get a wrong idea of their product, which affect their sales. @@adinwalls
@@olivermirez6667 I agree. Was very interested in this but the reviews are bad. I hope it gets better. My miyoo mini plus will keep me busy until then.
@@olivermirez6667 Seriously, I was set to buy one, but every video I've seen on it made it look rushed and under powered, so I put my money elsewhere. You want tp buy a product for what is is, not what you hope it _might_ become eventually.
@@adinwallsHave you tried CrossMixOS yet? If not it’s fantastic. Best I can explain: Best handheld experience for someone new to the hobby while allowing those of us who want to tinker to do so without restrictions. You can completely customize everything and they did an incredible job optimizing the emulators… oh and they added Vulkan.
put something like sd7gen2 dimensity8100-8200 up the price+active cooling and up the price and should be perfect emulator device ,perfect for my pocket money.
@adinwalls I'm not saying the shake test itself. Im saying the results of it. It's one thing for buttons to rattle a little, and it's another that the whole battery is not fixed in place and is just moving around the unit. That seems like a big problem waiting to happen.
@@JaviPlayRetro It would be one thing if he were shaking it with all his might but just the way he does it an every day device shouldn't have anything come loose as a result. If say the rumble motor came loose as a result they should consider measures to help secure it better, because that's nothing compared to what an average 8 year old could do to it.
Is this something i can just pick up and press the game and play? Im not a PC gamer or know much about PC's at all. Will this allow me to play everything advertised straight out of the box.
Maybe that and how to add a game, ive tried and not sure if the ROM is the issue or if i didnt do something quite right. Newer to emulator handhelds, use to PC.
You got me confused at 18:02 it sounds at first like you say we CAN connect a controller, then it seems you say we can't connect a bluetooth controller. Can you clarify? (Also is hdmi possible via a type c adapter or not a chance?) thanks
I haven’t tested a usb-c to hdmi connection but I highly doubt it. I think what I was trying to say with the Bluetooth controller is that it looked as though it was possible but it isn’t.
I never understand when these companies put big high resolution screens on a handheld with a weak CPU. What’s the point of having that big 720P screen if you can’t really play PSP, if you can’t really upscale Dreamcast or n64?
Integer scaling. GBA for example has 3.9" viewable area at 4x integer scaling. The higher the resolution, the better compatibility with Integer scaling (for those nice crisp pixels).
It makes a difference to older systems also. Look at SNES or even NES or Genesis on a decice like the 351p with a low res screen and then play those same emulators on a device like the Powkiddy x55 with a 720p quality 16:9 display. Its a night and day difference. I know this because I own both and the 351p looks like complete garbo next to the x55 and that goes for all old systems. If you say it doesnt matter, you havent seen the difference up close.
We should see a pretty good improvement on this device as the community gets a little more time with it. The processor isn’t as powerful as some devices in this tier but it’s new to handhelds and data suggests it should be more efficient once properly optimized.
there is a easy fix for the clicky buttons on the X55....i know it sounds stupid, but add a littel bit of hotglue into the Hollow Buttons ( L1L2 R1R2 ) and the clicky sounds is gone. and what do you think about the M17 its plays the same consols the TrimUi does but cost only 28-35€. i dont know if its a good deal to pay like 35€ more fore the trimUi for WiFi and RGB...

Love your review very thorough, I watch someone else's before this they didn't even mention the battery they said PSP will work pretty much when that's not true and N64 when it works it works that doesn't sound like an endorsement LOL. This is something I will skip as if it can't play PSP at 1X then it's really not worth it PSP should be the minimum for something with this type of screen. Also the audio problem and the joystick problems all that stuff just makes me think they may be skipped a few steps and the fact there's no Bluetooth and only 2.4 hz Wi-Fi. I would rather have them make a slightly smaller screen and add some better features. I will be buying this but I really do appreciate the review, I even subscribed because of it!
Hey, I hope you are doing well, just bought this device for my 9yr old daughter but without any sd card, i have my own Samsung 128gb sd card and as this is my first retro gaming console i dont have any idea how to get started, if you can kindly guide me how to actually add games to the card and be able to play. Thank you
Hey I never tested preparing a new card. I actually assumed they wouldn’t sell it without one. Maybe try inserting the formatted card (try exFAT) and powering the device on.
What I'd like to know is does it show full game names (as opposed to the mame short names) for your arcade games and if so does it need a DAT for that or is something you have to set up manually when you add roms or what
The shake test might be dramatic for some as if it could damage your device? But that's especially if stuff inside isn't properly placed and has a 'fixed' location to hold everything in place, right? Loose things inside = not good.
Great video, in my mind I believe if you get an item sent to you for free before its ready for consumers, dealing with the little things and helping to make the device ready for consumers should not be something you have a gripe about. Are you not reviewing for products to get better? People who get items early should be expected to help make it a proper device.
The value for companies in sending devices is getting a quality video telling the world what their product is like and using my audience for their benefit. Having reviewers test their devices is a bit cheeky in my opinion.
I understand that, but at that point you should get it at release and not early. You getting it early changes that completely. I understand what you are saying with the video, but you are different than just a reviewer as you get them early and having outside eyes test a product is always helpful. Look at a youtuber like ETA Prime who gets tons of devices early and even helps on creating the devices and making early changes so that it can be a great product to the people he is showing it off to.
