I’ve never seen acola get dismantled this hard before. Just shows that Leo is here to stay #1 and is here to keep his crown no matter how fierce the competition is. Leo grinding with the top Steve’s helped out in the end and now he is 18-0 in games at the most stacked invitational of all time. Also I don’t think Leo was happy about the 9th at summit and being seeded 3rd at this event too.
He wasn't dismantled...he just got hard MU checked against Byleth, which he clearly knew nothing about on the top level. Leo gets an awesome advantage by playing a rare high tier at a god-tier consistent and safe level.

i think what helps more in the steve matchup is a disc join rather than speed. steve just cant handle those massive disc joints like on seph, cloud and byleth
After watching how Onin demolished MkLeo, I always wondered how MKLeo would perform against Acola (the best Steve player). This set beautifully shows how well MKLeo studied the Steve matchup. It's truly wonderful to see MKLeo overcome such a troubling matchup! Very well played by Acola as usual. He's an absolute threat who I know will study this matchup too in the future.
After this, Leo said he still doesn't really understand the matchup too. I think he just doesn't need to be completely unfamiliar to a matchup to be his usual dominant self.

He just needed to know what attacks Steve players tend to go for and when. His spacing and confidence around Steve has significantly improved since his battle with Onin.
Its just hard to perform at this level consistently. Part of why Leo was so on point today is he knows he's getting a break for a month+. It really helps you convince yourself you can go all out no matter what

Go watch his matches from Summit and tell me how many times he got edgeguarded. Where at Maesuma and Kagaribi his opponents edgeguarded the hell out of him. Thats not a MU issue. Thats a skill issue. Japan is more skilled than NA. Thats just 1 of the many differences between the 2. We both know if NA players weren't scared they would be getting upsetted at Japan majors as well. As of rn from what I've seen i don't see Leo beating him with Joker. Dabuz isn't an accurate measuring stick. Proto still beats all of Leos characters. But its Leo so he could obviously still win. This really takes me back to the Smash 4 days. I equate Steve with Smash 4 Bayo (even though I think Steve isn’t as bad), and Leo takes them out with a fundamentals-based, unimpressive-looking swordie. Byleth and Smash 4 Marth have some cheese (up b and jab 1 dancing blade respectively) but they mainly space you out and Leo just makes it work
Foe everyone saying Acola has no Byleth experience, or never played Byleth before, just know he played Rizeasu, and lost. Rizeasu is a really good player in Japan aswell. He had to have some Byleth knowledge from that. Leo's Byleth is just in a tier of its own, and he learned from that game where he played Onin.

I guess this answers the question of who the true #1 is. I remember a lot of people were hyping up Acola as being the true best at Ultimate, and understandably so given his track record with Steve. It's been a long time coming but finally we know, at least for now, that Leo is still the true King of Ultimate and the 🐐.

My favorite part was when Acola stood up mid set and said "omae wa mou shindeiru" and proceeded casually 3-0ing Leo and even recited his girlfriend's snapchat by memory after the match was over. Truly a well deserved win from Acola.

Now that he's trying again, Leo can join the ranks of the gods who has achieved this such as (but not limited to): Zer0's 52 win Tourney streak; SonicFox's utter STRANGLEHOLD on every Netherealm Game (except MK11), Daigo and Justin Wong in their Prime; Chris G's UMvC reign; OG Melee Ken aka King of Smash obliterating everyone in the world for years; etc Go get em King. Most fighting games has a God King who undesputably is the #1 guy in the world but every once in awhile that #1 guy is so dominante even over the other gods of the game, they achieve God of Gods status
Leo has been the God King of Smash since the beginning but he was right on the cusp of reaching God of Gods status when he decided stop freakin trying. Now that he's trying again, Leo can join the ranks of the gods who has achieved this such as (but not limited to):
Zer0's 52 win Tourney streak; SonicFox's utter STRANGLEHOLD on every Netherealm Game (except MK11), Daigo and Justin Wong in their Prime; Chris G's UMvC reign; OG Melee Ken aka King of Smash obliterating everyone in the world for years; etc
