I value quality over an undefeated record. Khabib is 29-0 but really only beat a handful of elite level guys. Meanwhile someone like Fedor has losses but he beat way more world champions than Khabib.

I feel a perfect record reflects a lack of pushing oneself. You don't know how far you can go until you fail, and how you deal with that failure is the true test of greatness.
That doesn't really play out in mma. In the UFC, you don't call the shots: Dana does. What that means is that if you're at the top, you're going to be matched up with the best guys whether you like it or not.
However, what you're saying does apply to boxing. More or less, every champ and the guy challenging for the belt has 0 losses. Why? Because the boxers themselves choose to fight bums to pad up their records.
Exceptions do exist like Mayweather. But most of his earlier wins are padded and while he did beat many world champions, most of those wins were off former champs who were within their downfall. I'd say pacquiao is a true exception and the representation of your comment. He may not be undefeated, but he became an 8 division champ by challenging and beating the champs of their respective divisions while they were in their primes.
@@nafischowdhury6015 Granted Dana has way more control than the average fighter. but it's not completely one sided, especially when they're on the top. Fighters can and do pass on match ups. Additionally, their level of activity, when they retire whether they change weight classes, that is up to them.
I feel like Khabib is a good example of this. As dominant as he was for the time he was active I can't consider him one of the greatest of all time because we never saw him tested.
@@nafischowdhury6015 ehhh, No Dana still has his favorites. Plus, fighters have talked about the match making when Joe Silva was involved. Some bad stories about being pressured to take last minute fights or bad fights for less money, or just being on the shit list for not accepting a fight. It's tough for mma fighters, no doubt, but if you're really liked by the decision makers... hopefully you'll get top dollars for your fights, at least. That's what really matters.
Some fighters are just to good to lose, and their is nothing wrong with that, you should never strive for a loss or expect one.
That criticism only applies to khabib who never had a single rematch, and defended only 3 times. Khabib should never be in a discussion of GOAT since his record is largely padded.
Jones in fact pushed himself more than any other ufc champion in history by defeating the most former champions and highest competition in general.
Sugar ray Robinson is the goat… man went undefeated 40-0 before his first loss and fought up to 14 times a year and lost to a man 16 pounds heavier than him. He was a true fighter and would fight anyone with a total record of 173-19-6 thats goat status to me
