- Fakes are all around and if you wondered if you've got a real DualShock 4, or a fake one, you need to know few things about such fakes... A genuine PS4 Controller is the one made by Sony, and a fake one pretends to be made by Sony but it's made by unknown manufacturer.
Wouldn't be such important if they would have the same quality, but while a genuine / original controller is at it's supposed to be and delivers what should for our PlayStation, a fake one just replicates the layout and basic inputs, but in fact it's a completely different controller with a completely different behavior.
Sony and PlayStation symbols are all around and they all seems legit, real and genuine, but many of them are just cheap copies made of very poor quality controllers.
This video is meant to expose fake controllers and spot the real ones between so many fakes.
How to tell the difference between a fake and real one? This is how!
I have 4 different sealed PS4 controllers, genuine & fake together, meant for different markets from different countries and I firstly expose them since they're sealed, later on I also unbox each one of them and compare them side by side. - Наука та технологія

I'm a developer and I wanted an OEM DualShock 4 controller for testing. I used this video to make sure that my controller was indeed OEM and not a fake! Thank you so much for the video! When disassembling the controller to check the inside, I would recommend using a plastic card instead of a Flathead screwdriver to prevent damaging the plastic. Opening the controller also gives you the opportunity to clean the controller if it's used.

Great video, as for the circle button it's not perfectly centered in genuine ones too, and some original boxes let the controller shake too
So mine fake controller came in with the console and it was obvious cause the box down panel was tempered, brought from sony certified seller but it was on massive discount on 2018 even when best games were coming back to back but they held discount that time, it's better to buy game edition or some limited console and controllers as chances of being fake will minimum, thanks for this informative video, keep up the good work as always ❤️🙌🏻
Thank you! Sorry to hear about your experience, I never heard that before. This reminds me when I firstly attempted to grab the PS5, the retailer bundled it with Star Wars and some other games . It wasn't the official bundle with Ratchet & Clank or Horizon Forbidden West. I saw the box was opened and resealed, the retailer pretending that was in order to put the games discs inside the box. I said "You could simply add the games separately without opening the box, you shouldn't break the seal and reseal it". I refused it because that could be a refurbished PS5 and the whole deal with the games could be only to mask everything.
@@YesterdaysTech after that experience i stay away from shady schemes or deals like that, talking about ps5 after nov 22 batch some of the new redesign ps5 having a several disc drive issues so maybe right now they are selling those with massive discount and even with some bundle games extra controller to clear out those stocks, Thank god you decided to refused that deal who knows what kind of issue might be had in that ps5
I wish I had noticed earlier, mine has so much latency over bluetooth and the sticks feel very imprecise

I got the Japanese one like 2 months ago. Tbh the seller himself told me that it was fake. But regardless i still got it since it was $20. It was actually not bad. Aside from the touchpad which is weird if you try to use it for mouse and stuff but other than that it really was indistinguishable.

Oh I can tell you how a fake controller behaves. You play for 2 Minutes and the left stick gets stuck in either Left/Right or any combination with Up and Down diagonally.
This video was valuable enough to apply for refund.

I think some of the older models from 2016 may have the embossed symbol above the usb. I have the gold edition with the screws circular, the battery is genuine, it looks and feels genuine overall. So, I can only assume some of the older models from 2016 are embossed, either that or the owner before me replaced the back shelling of this pad with a generic one, although it does have the sony label with the manufacturer year being 2016. I also have 2 other newer pads that are both genuine (2019) that are debossed. Using this gold pad for parts really.

The original controller for PS4 and PS5 does not come with the charging cable included, there may be some exceptions in some areas of the world but so far I've never seen that
i got my japanese glacier white controller at 10 pm (my time) because my fake rose gold controller is broken and my other controller which always needs to be plugged in which i never liked but my controller now is very good and i dont live in japan and i know how to guess if its a fake controller or real a real controller would have circle lines around the screws a fake one would have generic screws
My question is ...did the shock 4 vibration work while playing? My 2-past replacements knock-offs say they do but they don't when I tried them and sent them back for full refund. I have an original PS4 controller but the vibration stopped working.

Buying PS4 controllers online is not recommended because you can't guarantee they are real. You definitely should buy them from stores.
But how the I know the genuine controller just by looking at the box if I'm gonna buy a new controller??
There are telltale signs even on the box. See how it says “DUAL SHOCK” in a few places? The official trademark is Dualshock, as one word with no spaces. Sony wouldn’t mess that up.

Fun fact:The playstation can identify real controllers.For genuine controllers, it says dualshock controller connected (on the screen you select your user). For fake ones, it might say double shock controller or something else

Does the color has to be 100% specified on the front of the box? If it's not specified is it fake?
In most situations it’s fake, only early batches didn’t have the color written on the box

Sorry I’m late but the heavy sticks are not normal. If the controller is heavier then it’s real but they can come with fake sticks. So be carful

I got the japan version 2 weeks ago. It was really not that bad bad i got it for like 499 phillipine peso (about 9 dollars) the weird thing was the touch pad which is fast. I got the gold version of the ps4 conttroller and i have been using it right now and again it wasnt really that bad

The USB logo seems to be hoax, I have two genuine DS4's (v1 and v2) both usb logos are embossed. All the other features you mentioned, screws etc. are the same as your genuine one

My fake EU version was the worst of them, completely unusable and unplayable, but maybe I was unlucky. It’s hard to tell because since they’re fake, they’re not all the same. However, expect to be a bad controller and return it...

I think i got a fake one, i got 3 legit controllers and needed a fourth, its 1:1 with the others the only difference i see is that the XYO buttons are from a different material and the backlight is visible on the back of the controller, will see how it behaves

If the year on the box is correct, you have a genuine controller for japanese market. If your controller is the new version with lightbar, the year should be 2016 or later

I never used a fake for a long period of time so I can't tell about that. Looking inside of them, I don't think they'll work for years

Usually for $50 you can get a genuine controller, with fake controllers it’s mostly about luck

Dude, the price is a dead giveaway, and 2, the whole purpose of these controllers is to be a replacement for rage quitters, who cares if they’re fakes, as long as it looks the same and it works
Correct, but the problem comes when someone tries to sell them at retail price. Many people have been tricked by something like this for decades, hence why it's illegal.
The problem with fake controllers is u get stick drift in less than a month of purchase 😂

It has nothing to do with ethics for me. Rip off batteries can, and often do, explode when charging. Just like the e-bikes and the electric cars, the batteries are the weak link. Li-ion batteries with the wrong chargers are particularly prone to exploding and the Chinese knock-offs are the worst of all, and they are the ones flooding the market.

Id prefer buying the fake one. The original costs atleast 5 times the fake. And they are about the same durability. After 3+ years yhe analog starts drifting.
