  • In this video, I will show you how I shoot Art Deco bus buildings with Kodak Gold 200 film, an Intrepid 5x4 camera and a DayI 6x17 back. Art Deco is a style of architecture and design that emerged in the 1920s and 1930s, influenced by geometric shapes, exotic motifs, and streamlined forms. Art Deco bus buildings are examples of how this style was applied to transportation and movement, creating elegant and functional structures that reflect the modernity and dynamism of the era. Some of the most notable Art Deco bus buildings in the UK are the Victoria Coach Station in London, the San Remo Towers in Bournemouth, the Bus Station and Clock Tower in Seaton Carew, and the Streamline Moderne tram shelters in various locations.
Kodak Gold 200 is a color negative film that has a warm and nostalgic look, perfect for capturing the beauty and charm of these historic buildings. It has a fine grain, good exposure latitude, and natural skin tones. The Intrepid 5x4 is a lightweight and affordable large format camera that allows you to use different lenses and movements to create stunning images. The DayI 6x17 back is a panoramic film holder that lets you shoot 6x17 cm images on 120 or 220 film, giving you a wide and immersive perspective.
In this video, I will take you through the process of finding and photographing some of the best Art Deco bus buildings in the UK, using Kodak Gold 200 film with an Intrepid 5x4 camera and a DayI 6x17 back. I will also share some tips and tricks on how to get the best results from this combination of film and camera. Thanks Graham, they were amazing, we had some much banter going across the road… I’ve always been nervous about shooting people but when you have amazing people like that it makes it so much fun and makes me want to do it more

I love that photo with the people absolutely sharp and popping. How do you rate your 6x17 roll film back? I am looking to purchase a 6x17 back for my 5X4 camera on a budget the Chroma 6X17 back as far as I’ve seen is full of light leaks so that is out of the question.

Loved the photos, but was afraid you were going to get hit by a car while filming…they looked awfully close! 😬

Thanks Larry, I was a little nervous especially when the buses drove by 😂, the issue was that a guy on a mobility scooter kept driving up and down the path so I had to set the tripod up as close to the road as possible so he could get through
