International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) regions are not the same as geographical regions as ICAO takes FIR lines and airline connections as its basis. According to ICAO, not only Turkey but Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Israel, Tunisia, Algeria and Morocco are in EUR region.

So did Alitalia. I think there are far more profitable routes now within Europe, the US and Asia for long haul flights. Add to this competition from airlines such as those of the oil producing countries operated by rulers who own the airlines as well as the oil wells.

    05:45 "...clever move..."?
Istanbul is bursting due to it's population density.
Every corner of the city is unstandable of being overcrowded. The buildings, leaving no space to breath, the traffic, the noise, the tourists.
While other cities are trying to get rid of the overtourism, Turkiye pulls them in tons into the city.
The quality of living in İstanbul is unstandable.
How about reducing the cheap tourism. Having less guests, rising the living quality of the cities and attracting more high priced tourism instead of the masses of locust (or lowcost) tourism.

But the title of the video is a little misleading since there has been other European carriers that have flown there in the past.

The population of Turkiye living in European part is larger than most European countries, the part of Turkiye in Europe is larger than lots of European countries. You can write "Turkiye is not European" in your diary and cry everyday. Turkiye is both Asian and European. I say this after seeing 20 European countries.

@@oguzb.7033 I'm responding to the title Turkish Airlines Becomes the First European Carrier"..... The only people who genuinely consider Turks Euros are the people who do not know the history or Euro wannabees in Asia Minor.
Population numbers does not make a country European or not. Germany has a much larger population than Lichtenstein, both are equally European because they are in Europe (unlike Turkey... 3% is a rounding error).
I'd expect if Europe were spiraling into an economic death-spiral, the "we are European" club in Asia Minor would disappear pretty quickly.
