Is Türkiye’s New Submarine Launch a Strategic Move Amid Geopolitical Tensions in the Region?

  • Türkiye's drive to produce more defence hardware at home got a major boost last week. The TCG Piri Reis, named after a 16th-century Ottoman navigator, has formally entered service. The diesel-electric powered submarine will be the lead ship of a growing fleet of underwater vessels that Turkiye says will project naval power - both along its shores, and further abroad.
Stretching nearly 70 metres long and with a displacement weight of 1,850 tons, the TCG Piri Reis is one of six submarines Turkiye will launch before the end of the decade. The ship is the latest in a series of major upgrades for the Turkish navy after last year's commissioning of the TCG Anadolu, which has been touted as the world's first drone carrier. All are a part of Türkiye's Blue Homeland strategy of protecting the country's territorial waters. Israel's ongoing war on Gaza and its attacks on southern Lebanon have also raised fears that the conflict could spill over into the energy-rich Eastern Mediterranean, which has already seen tense standoffs over competing maritime claims.

Stop selling your coastline. Stop allowing colonisers to keep bases. Stop behaving like slaves.

Somalia should ask Turkey to destroy Al-Shabab and start to develop Turkey by building roads, tandoori, agriculture, industries and a powerful army.

Why Türkiye making warship for Ukraine?
Türkiye must stay neutral and take the advantage from both sides while focusing on making nukes and other high tech weapons to defend itself.

Who are Turkey's enemies which demand such as aggressive Naval programme.
The only country with significant sea presence in the area is Greece and secondly the Republic of Cyprus.
We know about the threat of war (Casus belli) by the Turkish Assembly against Greece if it extends its territorial waters up to 12 n.m according to UNCLOS.
A clear war threat from a fellow NATO member unheard-of in the modern world.
So are they planning to attack Greece?
If they do they will painfully regret it because Greek seamanship is unmatched.
    Turks are not water people.

I can smell a bit of worry about Turkish naval capability in your words.
And you also said: "Greek seamanship is unmatched"
Well, if that is the case, what did you even trouble yourself for making comments here?
Just laugh about it and walk away!.
A hint for you. Turkish interests are not just in the Aegean sea.
They need to consider areas way beyond the sea of islands (Agean).

The whole western world doesn’t like Türkiye. You saw USA was giving patriot for other countries even non NATO but not selling for Türkiye while Türkiye bought s400 from Russia lots of sanction from West specially USA but Greece were using s300 for many years no sanction for Greece. Always double standards when it comes to Türkiye.
