      My first build had a 7600GT. Its what my poor college kid budget allowed for and played all the games out at the time (like The Orange Box). Definitely a step up from my laptop at the time that had whatever Nvidia mobile GPU w/ 64mb vram, or all the old PCs my parents had growing up.That and the CoreDuo (or maybe it was a Core2Duo) were the best parts of that build. Much better than the ECS Elitegroup motherboard or the ugly blue/silver PC case that came with the most questionable power supply ever.

    • @77elvistheking
      @77elvistheking 2 роки тому

      @@hardwarecollector2097 I usually enter small pc tech shops and ask if they have any old gpu agp or pcie that they don't want. Latest find was an MSI TI 4200 128mb, a Geforce 6800 128 agp and an MX 440 128mb (well and a few FX5200 he had but no one cares about them lol). He didn't care gave them away for free... Said he was keeping them just in case any AGP system appeared and needed a GPU but that never happened so they were just collecting dust. Imagine how many of these sought after GPUs are still being used in random old PCs (especially ones like in the video). Once I repaired a system that had a PCIe Geforce 6800 Ultra and the owner got the whole PC for free from a friend when it got old (around 2008 or so). He didn't care when I asked and traded that 6800 ultra for a spare Ati 5450 I had lol. As long as it goes on the internet and played youtube he was happy something that the 5450 did better than the 6800 actually.

    PS! OpenGL issues was quite common back in the day, not due to a fault of the GPU, but because Microsoft were actively sabotaging OpenGL.
    The default drivers that came with ATi and NV cards in Windows had the OpenGL stuff stripped out as Microsoft wanted to push the DirectX mode, the fix is to ensure the OS loads a driver from the vendor itself and blacklist the one that comes with the OS.
    This is extremely hard with Windows 10, but easier with older Windows versions.

      @Max Pain Im not promoting it as a real fix, but a video where we just show an artifacting screen isnt going to be very fun is it. Its not a full fix, and was never intended as a full fix, but thats how reballing the core itself works, especially with this era of components.
      So if youd rather watch a video where we just show a bluescreen for about 13 Minutes feel free, the rest of us wanted to breath some new life into some old components even if it wont be enough to run for a few years. So if youd kindly not.

    • @BudgetBuildsOfficial
      @BudgetBuildsOfficial  5 років тому +10

      @Max Pain Hmmmm odd you say that, remember that HD3450 I got that I had to Oven Fix, thats actually been running in a server somewhere since the video went up. Still works perfectly today if I need to run somehting mildely graphics accelerated.
      The time itll work for is varied, and was for a quick set of benchmarks its fine, I dont say to try this at home on your main GPU, thats not even the point of the video. I know the logistics behind the fix, as do many people who perform it, so there is no point spewing nonsense when you clearly think this video was about something that was there for about 20 Seconds.

    • @BudgetBuildsOfficial
      @BudgetBuildsOfficial  5 років тому +12

      @Max Pain I know the Science behind how it works, but you really dont understand the video your watching, or the content on this channel, or the reason people do this as a temporary fix. So I will not be continuing this conversation with you as I dont think you see what I am getting at....

    I played Crysis on a Radeon 9600 SE with an Athlon XP 1800+ CPU. On low at 800x600, I was getting about 11-13fps. After about a month of meticulously tweaking about a hundred console parameters and testing tons of configurations, I managed to get around 20fps with low-medium visuals with a custom autoexec file.
    It was a labor of passion and a lot of weed. I was so proud of the result I saved the file and have kept it on my server for several years.

    First thing: Good video. [thumbsup]
    β: This baking a graphics card trick only works on older graphics cards.
    The newer cards use a much higher temp solder. You need to carefully reflow with flux and a heat-gun and temp sensor (which requires skill and even more luck).
    3: This video card - regardless of price- only makes sense for a retro gaming PC imho. Sometimes even free is too much. Lol. Your other free from the trash GPU- the HD 6450 - was a much better free GPU imho. (even the £2 Crossfire Experience HD 5450 was waaaay better..)
    Fourth thing. Since this card is already junk... why not try a bios mod to raise the voltage and OC it? Just for gits and shiggles sake.

    This generation DX9 era cards are still useful for old titles that are not win10 compatible due to drm protection.

    For older cards you should add Dungeon siege 1 and 2 to the benchmark list. Those games are natorious for not running on anything but cards from around their time.

    that's a damn good retro gpu. one of my retro pcs in my retro lan room has it. it kinda sorta keeps up with the 8800gts and alike pretty well. and most importantly, it's more than enough for everything we throw at it because the most demanding game we usually run is gzdoom. other than that, it's probably quake 3.

    There are rich neighborhoods around here that will put brand new stuff in the trash. Found a Custom 88" Sony Vega, Two 1080's in a case with no mobo, Furniture thatrs sitting outside because it had a booger on it. No suprise to find stuff in these parts.

    And its a Gainward GT7950
    The reference 7950 had 512 megs of vram
    And this only has 256 megs
