    'An Audience with Billy Connolly', filmed in 1985, is a long-running British show, in which a host, usually a singer or comedian, performs for an invited audience of celebrity guests. Of those I recognise:
    0:47 - Later Sir Michael Parkinson - Godfather of UK Chatshows, sitting along side Jimmy Tarbuck - comedian.
    0:52 - Chris Quentin - contemporary soap opera actor (Cornonation Street)
    1:01 - Charles Dance - actor
    1:07 - Later, Dame Julie Walters - actress
    1:34 - Sandra Dickinson - US-born, anglicised actress.
    1:36 - Paul Barber - actor
    1:57 - SIr Clive Sinclair - inventor of small electrical goods - including the first slim calculator.
    2:56 - Bob Hoskins - actor
    3:04 - Brian Glover - actor
    3:07 - Bernard Hill - actor
    3:11 - Robbie Coltrane - actor/comedian
    3:29 - Lawrie McMenemy - Football Manager , Ian St John - Footballer and TV Presenter
    3:33 - Between Sir Michael and Jimmy is Valerie SIngleton -TV Presenter, perhaps best known for 'Blue Peter'
    3:46 - Barry McGuighan - World Champion Boxer
    4:01 - Later Dame Joanna Lumley - actress
    4:21 - Mary Parkinson - wife of Sir Michael

      You can get the whole show on UA-cam!
      I think it's the best comedy routine I've ever seen, & I go back to watch it over again, every couple of years! 🤣
      Another great one in the series stars Kenneth Williams, who began as a serious actor, but became probably the funniest man in British radio & films, of the 50's & 60's, as well as a fantastic chatshow guest, & raconteur! 🤣

    I remember seeing an interview with a friend of Billy's ,Billy invited him to one of his concerts (I think at the Sidney opera House )Billy said come both nights if you want ,his friend said "well i would know all the jokes on the second night "Billy promised him that it would be completely different with no material the same as the first night. The friend said he went both nights 2 hour shows each night completely different material without a script. Billy Connolly is a ledgend.

    Saw this for the first time back in the eighties, jeeze it was so funny, I don't think I have ever laughed so hard. My mum had tears running down her face, my dad couldn't breathe and yes, I damned near pissed myself laughing. What made it extra funny was the celebrity audience laughing along. Pure comic genius!!😂😂😂🇬🇧

      He didn't tell jokes? What 😳

    • @philmus1
      @philmus1 3 роки тому +3

      Actually, incredibly carefully scripted. Connolly's genius was to make it sound natural and off the cuff

    • @AD270479
      @AD270479 3 роки тому +3

      @Wayne Anthony Holmes What's also not difficult to understand is a comedian doesn't specifically have to tell fabricated jokes to be a comedian. Anybody can learn jokes then go & repeat them on a stage. But not just anybody can go up on stage, easily have the arena packed full for several nights, & have everybody in there in fits of laughter by telling life observing stories... Definition of 'Comedian'?... 'an entertainer on stage or television whose act is designed to make an audience laugh.'

    Sir Ken Dodd, one of the best loved comics in UK history, appeared twice, on 'an audience with......'!
    Some say that he had waaay too much material for just one show!! 🤣🤣
    He was famous for over-running his comedy shows, as he just couldn't stop with the funnies!!
    (Sometimes he'd over-run by another hour, or two!!) 😲😲😲

    The reason he was talking about incontinence pants is because he was doing a routine about the advertising in a paper. The whole routine was great from cutting your own hair, the big slipper that you can sit in, dog bags to put your dog in to stop hair going onto the floor etc.

    Im disabled and have sometimes in the past had, shall we say, issues in that area. So I can sort of relate, Until I found a way to deal with it, (catheters). This is one of the funniest things I ever heard, one of those that never gets less funny no matter how many times I see it. Apologies if this is too much information but I used to have a urine bag attached, attached via a sheath on my bits, down a tube, and the bag strapped on my leg, my mates always used to say they could always tell when I was using it because I'd get this really contented smile on my face, the look of relief lol.

    One of the funniest things he did was when he appeared on a BBC Scotland programme answering questions from a studio audience of schoolchildren - it was called 'Open to Question' - but he carried on talking at the end, with all these Glasgow teenagers in hysterics. They broadcast it as, I think, 'Billy Connolly, Out of the Question'. I think it's on here somewhere. And for those who criticise him for swearing or being vulgar, he shows how naturally funny he is when neither of those things.

      I'm an Aussie and stumbled onto "Still Game" on Netflix, love it. I must confess, I had to turn on subtitles to make sure I didn't miss anything. Billy had obviously not prepared me enough. 😁

    See the people in the audience , Hale and pace, Joanna Lumley, Jimmy Tarbuck all the greats of comedy alive in that era . This clip is from An audience with Billy Connolly ,Where all the famous and the best in British entertainment came to see him .So many more in the audience that night i cant explain it was a tribute to his genius that he was given the show and all the audience were famous in there own right.
