Thanks a lot @Synthdad for another amazing tutorial! A few notes: - Firmware 3.5 has been released that includes among other features: + possibility to Lfo Restart on note trigger + Lfo phase control + Cross modulation between LFOs, Mod lanes and external CV. So for example you can let Lfo 2, a Mod lane or the external CV input modulate the Lfo 1 rate, amount or waveform settings. - Note velocity actually controls the amplitude of the AD envelope and the note gate determines the Decay of the envelope. Happy patching!!!
@@alien_brain Don't be fooled, In OXI One you can do cross modulation between LFOs and MOD lanes. Also the MOD lanes are fully independent from the sequencer which is not available in the hapax
@@alien_brain That's not realy nice, and true. For me it's the other way, I had some Squarp sequencer and realy have a better musical feeling with the oxi one. They are both realy realy good sequencer and I'm glad there one for each taste. Personnaly I went with oxi and no regrets at all
This is without question the best and most versatile sequencer out there. The more I am understanding, the more this is becoming the main sequencer in my live performances, so thank you for your insight. As a small unwanted suggestion, I feel as beautiful as your face is, it might be worth just putting the screen of the OXI one in place of it, so people can actually see whats going on :)
You mean my big bald head isn't attractive enough!!! :) I'll try to get better shots of the Oxi screen for my next series of videos. I just moved house so my standard studio setup was packed away so I was improvising here
Great video! If it’s not too much of a technical hassle, would love to see a super-imposed window of just the oxi display (for us fellow synth dads who are watching on our phone screens!)
Great video, thanks! I may have mentioned this in the comments of another video, but I would really love to see your take on Matricial mode and how you use it with modular… taking into account the 4 different tracks per sequencer and how all the cv/gates relate to all the parameters available in Matricial mode spread across multiple tracks per sequencer
Yes that request (as well as how to do CV/gate setup) has come up a few times now. So I've put it into my plans for videos in the next few weeks. Thanks for watching!
Thanks for this! still waiting for that video where you just make a song, using several modes (chords, arp, mono, poly) and use the arranger for instance and harmonizer mode
All of your oxi tutorials have been so useful. Thanks. I’ve recently bought the OXi pipe. It has a long hdmi cable and I saw that you have a really good solution with the coiled cable as a replacement. Would you mind telling me where you bought it
Thanks for getting back to me. I’ve tried a few HDMI 2 cables and they all prevent some of the cv outs of the oxipipe from working. Spoke to oxi about this and they said they’ve also had the same experience. Not all HDMI 2 cables work for some reason. Seems like you found one that does. Do you recall which brand it was?
Great stuff! One correction would be that i believe it‘s not the note velocity relating to the trig envelope decay time, it‘s the gate length of the note. The velocity just defines the envelope amplitude (which on the scope in a rhythmic pattern can make the visual impression of varied decay times). Correct me if i‘m wrong!
With regard to the max/min mod values, based on how the mod lane step lights changed, is it more correct to call it a clip rather than scale? Eg if i have a sine wave drawn in mod steps going from bottom row, up to a peak of 4 rows, then change the mod max to be half as much, the new mod steps lit up will be bottom row all the way to top row (eg the values werent scaled, the values stay the same, but any values above half the original full range, will just be clipped to the new lower max) - and then it becomes impossible to enter new values above half because the grid now represents 0 to half, instead of 0 to full?
@@DR_01 Absolutely, whatever you get make sure it's a HDMI2 cable. A regular HDMI cable won't work. www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B091Y6DXKX/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&th=1
Thanks for your great tutorials 👍I'm currently experimenting with CV in modulation. From what I've learned a TRS cable should be used. but I can only get the clock out of the modulation from e.g. Pam. Even if I just want to modulate something. oxi automatically jumps into clock synchronization. Any idea how to set it up properly. Perhaps you have already dealt with this topic in one of your clips? cheers
I’m guessing- in modular, you’d patch a “velocity” cv into a vca cv input, correct? I take it the pitch and velocity cv outputs on Oxi are simply voltages right? Is there a way to set them so their range is bipolar?
You could, or you can patch the gate into an ADSR envelope generator and then the output of the envelope generator into the VCA CV input. The velocity output from the Oxi One can then be mapped to (say) the release time or sustain level on the ADSR envelope if it has CV control over the stages. Ultimately everything in modular is a voltage, including the Oxi One outputs. You can offset the CV voltages in the Oxi One so they go down to about -3v or so.
Thanks for the reply! Great ideas. One other related question- can Oxi output modulation voltages be slewed or smoothed? To avoid clicks when modulating certain things ?
@@SynthDad hey Synthdad, thanks for the quick answer. Yes I saw in the manual that the output is -3 to +5v. But I was wandering if I need a way to boost the cv and offset it so I can sequence the scan knob on my Arbhar which is from -5 to +5v. But i hoped it would be possible on the oxi without the need of a seperate module.
Have you experienced any latency using the HDMI cable as appose to patching directly from the device, I moved from Midi sequencing to CV so not to deal with any latency, I want to order the Pipe Breakout but hesitant. I have watched your OXI videos several times with the manual next to me and your work is incredible. Cheers!!!
I know NE modules are popular, but their sound has never much appealed to me. Modules that are more interesting to modulate, in my opinion, include some from MI, like Rings, Elements and the Plaits that’s there in his rack.
Just wanted to say how much I appreciate you matching the oscilloscope colors to the color of the corresponding CV cable.
It's the little things :)
