It always seemed to me that when the timeline shifted, Guinan had to be thinking the Star Trek equivalent of, "There's a disturbance in the Force." 😀

I always figured Deanna wasn’t a high priority in a militaristic sf especially not on the bridge. One could say Deanna was on lower decks handling crew who suffered ptsd. I recall ds9 talked about counselors prior to Ezri but they were never shown.

I always thought Worf should have been in that episode (other than being introduced to prune juice), as a ruthless Klingon Commander. The two scenes with the Prune Juice of him learning to be more passive and open to Human Culture, compared to him just being ruthless would be a good contrast.

I really love this episode. On thing that has always bugged me is how Picard fought the battle. He is obviously pulling his punches and I don’t understand why. He should have been continually firing phasers well before he actually gave the order. If other captains were fighting the way he did, it’s no wonder the Federation was losing the war.

One interesting piece of trivia is that the same panel blows out in both this episode and in "Generations" causing a coolant leak and an eventual core breach, probably as a reference to the episode from the director. Also one reason I read why Worf was not the voice demanding the Enterprise's surrender was that the producers were worried that the viewers would smile and treat the moment more as an easter egg rather than showing how dark and grim the alternate universe was.

I think can also explain Troi's absence by the fact that real life warships don't carry therapists. It would have been cool to see Troi as a ruthless member of Starfleet Inteligence who uses her abilities for interrogating Klingon prisoners.

I'd say its strength is they didn't overcomplicate the time travel. A past event is altered and it needs to be restored. I suppose you could argue that it's in fact the reverse and the war timeline was really the "original" timeline. Guinan's feelings would seem to counteract that, but you could still make the argument.
My only real issue that it's just another apparently random temporal anomaly. There a really too many of these, so you begin to wonder what happens when people who AREN'T Starfleet's best and brightest encounter them. Is time constantly being rewritten?

If I recall correctly, they were also missing the belts. I think I read somewhere that this was because the costume department simply could not find the undershirts and the belts. You also see them missing in other TNG episodes where there are flashbacks wherein people are wearing the TWOK uniforms, like Jack crusher in the episode Family.

  • @benfisher4598

One thing that makes me scratch my head is that the Enterprise D looks the same from the outside in the alternate timeline even though it's a war ship. For me, the saucer section should be smaller because the ship wouldn't be a hotel and having a saucer that big would be a waste of space.

    • @vidsburgh6022
      @vidsburgh6022 4 роки тому

In some respects the galaxy class saucer is practically a mobile star base. The shuttle bay is enormous, it could comfortably carry at least 10,000 personnel, has full 360 degree firing arcs, and in this timeline likely its own torpedo launchers. Load it up with enough work bees and some variety of runabout style support craft, and it makes an ideal temporary command post / repair facility.
What makes less sense in this timeline is the Enterprise traveling on its own without any support ships (although they could have been destroyed in the Archer IV battle Riker mentions). It’s too big a target, and too valuable of an asset to risk losing to some opportunistic cloaked ships.
I’d expect that they’d arrive in a strategic location with a few smaller ships, then separate the saucer over whatever key position they’re defending or attacking. The drive section and supporting ships deal with the Klingons, while the saucer handles mass evacuations, orbital bombardment, or ground troop deployments.
It’s safe to assume they have industrial replicators available as well, there’s more than enough internal volume to house large replicated components and the cargo bays alone are quite sizable. The sick bay would likely be significantly expanded, letting it also serve as a hospital ship if need be. Once the Klingons are run off or destroyed, the saucer acts as a fabrication and repair facility for both the ships and any orbital stations or ground facilities. With everyone repaired, the saucer docks with the drive section and the flotilla moves on to the next engagement.

    • @victorm56

@@vidsburgh6022 I agree mostly, the Galaxy Class Battleship should of looked more like the one way it did in the last episode. They would be a great thing to do when they finally remaster and update effects for this episode. And it should of also been equipped with a squadron or four of fighters. 3 klingon cruiser should never have been a match for it. I've modeled this battle in Star Fleet Command and the Galaxy Class BB never loses. Of course I've also modeled the Reliant vs Enterprise battle and the CA never loses either. I never make the mistake Kirk did.

While I like this episode for the most part, I don't get why the Enterprise D's saucer is still massive.
Andrew Probert explained that the saucer is as big as it is because the ship is meant to accommodate families, but if the Enterprise D is a warship in the alternate timeline, then the saucer shouldn't be as big it is.
Trekyards made a video discussing the Galaxy X with Andrew Probert and at 11:20 they show how big the saucer would be if Probert had to redesign the Enterprise D for the movies and I think the Enterprise D should've looked like that in Yesterday's Enterprise.

My only problem is they at least should have left alternate Tasha’s fate open instead of reveling a half Romulan daughter. That changed the original timeline.

Kind of a shame that the only other female Enterprise captain we have is Captain Dax of the Enterprise-J, and that's only in Beta Canon (Star Trek Online; and you only hear her voice, and if they give her a first name in the game I missed it). WOuld be nice if Discovery made that Alpha Canon.

I will go as far to say that Yesterday's Enterprise was one of the best of TNG, but Star Trek overall, probably not.

Thanks. An excellent review. You forgot to mention that the episode introduces the Ambassador Class Enterprise C as canon.

LOL I mention the Ent C several times in the video, I dont mention several things that are canon, the implication is obviously that it is, so i wouldnt want to insult my audience with the most obvious :P

@@TriAngulumAudioStudios Well I wasn't insulted. But I see your point. An excellent episode, and one of the ten best.
