love Steve in this, don't think any of the Japan guys liked doing press. in this the interviewer acts like it's a job interview, he's the same in the David Sylvian and Mick Karn interviews too..

Steve and David's style of speech is so similar especially with their head movements 😂. Even their voice are so similar

A under-estimated drummer. The man can play.

Success in a teenage Japanese market. It didn't hurt that they were young and handsome. What we didn't know at the time, was that they would develop those musical talents to such a high degree. I still have their albums. Style _and_ substance.

Too many reporters just named Akiko Yano as "Ryuichi Sakamoto's wife" even though she was (and still is) a killer pianist herself and she's got a name... Otherwise, Steve is simply lovely and his filming Ryuichi and Akiko playing together is lovely too.💞

Sakamoto's Ongaku Zakan album is a work of genius. I play it on the regular. Not only is Jansen a phenomenal drummer; he's an engaging photographer. I love how he, Sylvian and Sakamoto have multiple talents.

I love Japan... Very interesting to hear this! This photo trip he did to Japan might be the where they got the idea for the name of the band. And do you know that Japanese piano player is Ryicho Sakamoto, he would later go on to do a song Beautiful Colours with David Bowie. So really, it all started with this trip... Fascinating!

This interview is from 1983. Japan broke up in 1982. Forbidden Colours is a collaboration between Ryuichi Sakamoto and David Sylvian. It was part of the soundtrack for the movie Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence, which starred David Bowie.

I was born this year and the soul of this music sound lives inside of me through whole my life now I am 39 and I feel like I found my home again the one that I have lost it feels familiar to some of the world inside of me I carried in past and they still do live I also create sound paint I love and need all kind of creativity but the new world and approach somehow killed my love for it all lack of love real passion natural approach as life as a being today I did some incredible healing and I felt the real me is coming back for real from the dust of these last years where I could no longer create being so aware of what I was doing kind of scarrying me but today I feel like I can keep distance and still dive in these dreamy real world the sound of David and Sakamoto they are bringing me back into the origin of my heart soul and ears I don't neglect the new kind of things but I don't feel them as if new I found most of the new in the past and translate it into my own way of expression in everywhere and nowadays I cannot say or hear much of it from another but yes there are still so many unique people out there to discover deeper but what is so still and solid always stays in tune with my heart and sensitivity of ears calming and taking me for an emotional movie the life itself as if neverending waves

People were generally much more reserved and were mannered outside their art in that era, the interviewers usually came from a music industry background and had real knowledge on the subject ...1000x better than the modern look at me type of presenters.
