Most definitely. I’ve been hooked on his grooves since I first heard Oil on Canvas in ‘86-been a big fan ever since. His beat on Taking the Veil is sublime.
Japan were awesome well ahead of they're time ! I had the privelage of them in my life in my late teens early 20s till they split in 83😫. Enjoy you're in for a real treat 👌👍🎸
Really appreciate you doing this, I was the backline tech on this gig and the radio session they did, I've never seen this as I was sat just off stage left focused on Steve Jansen.
What a band of superlative musicians! And impressive to see a baby Steven Wilson and of course, R.I.P., Mick Karn, one of the very best. Thanks for sharing!
These guys make it look effortless-- even Steve Jansen as he pounds the drum heads-- and that's one of the aspects of this band that is so very cool. The music is superb.
Thanks for posting am a big fan of Japan and these guys are just brilliant musicians they done a track with Midge Ure called Cry which was outstanding.Mick Khan is a bass god that’s for sure RIP.
Stunning if only Japan had continued perhaps Steve Wilson would of joined as a guitarist during the 90s in my dreams obviously mick passed away so talented
Someone here who plays bass and was too young to remember Japan... Discovered Mick Karn's playing and so sad I didnt discover his talent until now... watching this video though.. the music is spectacular! What a sound! This is brilliant!
I can't believe have known PT for over 10 years now, and never came across this. Beginning to melt is just incredible, and the quality is amazing too. Thanks so much for the upload ! Also how young Barbieri and Wilson look here
11th edition of Steven Wilson's Complete Discography has over 900 pages. It's a lifetime's worth of discovering SW was playing something, somewhere on somebody elses album and barely anybody knew :)
wow this such a great upload. I think Mick had such a great tone , and perfect restraint and syncopation i have been listening to Japan catalog last week love it please keep it posted up.
@@ZeeKat, the video is incredibly well-loved among Japan/JBK fans. Over the years, I've watched it over and over and over again. And now I can watch a clean version over and over again!!! Own 3 Barbieri solo albums but this is the first time I listen to this. I like it! Plus I always liked Steven Wilson on lead guitar. Karn is just fabulous on bass. How did I miss this?
Some reason in "Sleepers Awake," the sections at 3:03, 4:36, 5:55, and 6:42 just are really strong. Can't place my finger on it, but this live version has a lot more depth to it than the studio version. It also does well highlighting how tight Karn and Jansen were.
Astonishing work. What a pity Sylvian never joined them for some numbers.. with Wilson too. A supergroup for whom the charts etc are irrelevant. Brilliant, all of them.
I doubt Sylvian would be willing to give up that much control even though I read an interview where he said part of the problem with Japan was being tasked with writing most of the music. I doubt that would be an issue in this setting.
Too bad that JBK with Wilson and Travis did not put out several studio albums. Wilson on guitar fits really well with JBK. I have no idea what the dynamic was like between Jansen and Wilson but imagine if the two of them had co-produced JBK studio albums.....

OK Richard
BEEN on it since the start Richard is Undervalued big time
Mick Karn, The greatest ever, what a massive loss to the world.
Jansen's always been one of my favourite drummers. Hugely under-appreciated, IMO.
Agree...so tight, has an interesting sound when writing, generally underrated

I agree, he comes from another place entirely. And he looks so cocksure and sexy on the back photo of Tin Drum.
Mick Karn was not from this Earth. I remain always breathless at seeing his bass playing touch. Eternal respect.
3 members from Japan and Steven Wilson. SO GOOD.
3 members of Japan + 2 members of Porupine Tree = unbeatable
I always enjoy watching Mick Karn perform. What a talent.
perform, not sing...

Japan's members except David Sylvian and always their caracteristic sound with the Porcupinetree's leader.
Great and very interesting, thanks
28:02 Mick waved at somebody, how sweet 🤗
Steven you beautiful bastard. Great guitar tones
Brilliant. They are almost drifting in to the arena of prog rock (except so much better). Mick looks so different with eyebrows. God speed, Mick.
A bit too close to prog. Could do with less guitar

Fascinating how Karn (almost) never looks at his bass neck...
not much to see on the fretless neck most of the time, I guess
I love him but his intonation is out in places throughout this.
I wonder if much of that is intentional, the dissonance is cool at times.
I'd actually argue for a third perspective: the intonation is unimportant. Whether or not it was intentional doesn't really matter.
