  • All set for another overnighter in beautiful local woodlands. For this stealth wild camp im using mainly military surplus that include:
    British army DPM basha : Dutch army hooped bivi bag : Swedish LK 35 pack : BCB crusader cup.
    The 'wane of summer' is evident within the woodlands, as it's now late September. Flora rich with an abundance of berries, and leaves showing signs of the autumn to come...
    Today I look forward to trying out a new stove, the Phantom by Polymath Products. This is not a review or a promotion in any way shape or form. This is purely a 'look at' and first impressions of the burner... I look forward to using the stove, and in seeing how it stands up to the test of time out in the field.
    Most importantly of all...Its all about getting out from the rat race, and the hectic lifestyles we are all forced to live today... To be able to relax and reset in mother natures garden is a magical thing.
    Thank you for watching, and thank you also for the subs.
    Here's wishing you all the very best life has to offer

    Hi Mark. New to the channel and subbed. Very relaxing video. I love the DPM tarp and the Dutch bivi, great bits of kit. That table is a cracking idea ! I'm gonna try that one out on my next outing to the bush. You are right, there is nothing like getting out and back to nature. Cheers from Australia. Lee.

      Hi Lee, ah thanks mate cant beat good old army surplus for a stealthy wild camp. The table is quite an old idea and I'm sure the first time I saw the idea was on a cool channel called something like 'areallybigmonkey1' something like that anyway lol.
      Hey thank you very much for the sub, I'll pop over to your channel and happily sub you back👍🏻

      @@BlackCountryWoodsman Thank you Mike. What a setting that is. A man tuned in to who he is and nature. As thought provoking as always Mike. Boredom...there is always a chance Mike of it if we lose our appreciation of nature and the simple things as feeling the need to be ''doing'' things can mask the true essence of the moment, the now. Just the sound of rain on the tarp is bliss but only if we are tuned in. So many people I know live as if being busy is a badge of honour...the busier they are the more complete and important they feel in the machine world bless them lol. An appreciation of nature is inherent in all of us. It is being obscured and buried under the ''stuff'' of life but always there waiting to be rediscovered. Wow Paul a very indepth and very very wise words indeed. I love your explanation/aproach and views. Love the' being busy' as it's absolutely spot on! I'm not so sure about the appreciation of nature being inherent in us All, I do love the idea and it's always a good thing to try and see the best in people but the more I think about this the more I personally believe that some people are completely devoid of any connection with nature. Same as I personally believe that some are born of pure evil and it's in built to be that way.
      Glad you liked the stove Paul, it's a real bargain and all it needs now is the test of time...I think the carbon felt shall perish, hope I'm wrong lol....Cooked all that bacon and eggs on one burner full of meths

      @@BlackCountryWoodsman Always a pleasure Mike to watch, listen, comment and share our thoughts. I understand where you are coming from regarding nature and a persons appreciation of it and interaction with it. I feel that we are born in to this world with a natural attachment to the world and nature but that this doesn't get chance to develop due to social conditioning, technology, parents not in tune with it themselves so that appreciation doesn't have chance to develop and nature then is often seen as 'alien' because it is not a part of the machine/technological world. There is no balance. I can remember the time before the internet and now have a foot in both worlds as I was always out entertaining myself in nature and still am. The youngsters growing up today laugh at me when I tell them that there was a world before the internet. They cannot compare and contrast bless them. When exposed to the natural world kids who have previously had no interaction with it will, in my experience embrace it and grow to appreciate it and want to interact more with it over time if given the opportunity and often choose a walk outside rather than sit inside on the X Box if given the choice and an adult takes the time (those that are not too 'busy' that is lol) to nurture their interest. Not all kiss mind you lol. Why are people evil and are they born that way is a conversation we can have one day during a woodland camp 👍😉😊

    • @BlackCountryWoodsman
      @BlackCountryWoodsman  6 років тому

      Hi Paul, yeah I fully agree and we are just part of one machine...We are just tiny individual parts to a never ending machine, when we look at a colony of ants we really are no different but could be so much more if it were not for the opression of authority and the true rulers of this world.
      Time has been, and is being taken away from us, as I remember a time where for example the man of the household could support the family. Now in these times both man and woman have to work full time just to scrape by. But then we are told through media that 'we've never had it so good' all lies propaganda, fake news and false leaders. Rich rule the world and shall always look after their own, crazy to think there's a working poor class...I mean wtf! If you work why the hell can't these people afford to live instead of just being an existance. Greed of the rich and a wealth in possessions, materalistic gains instead of of true wealth in health, loved ones and the natural beauty in this world. I always feel at heart that the people are purposely kept in their own little bubbles and made to think that they have a say in how things are run but in reality it's all very much far from our control. You and I know there is no need for poverty, starvation... A vast majority of illness, and diseases are curable but still continue to take lives. Out dated stabalizer medications are still being used rather than an actual cure. All about the profits in the pharmaceutical industries.
      I'd love a wild camp with you Paul, plenty to talk about lol...
      Have a brill weekend

A bacon and eggs breakfast cooked on that fantastic little stove really rounded the trip off to perfection and then you were upstaged by a friendly Robin.... you really could not write it!

    Such a wonderful peaceful wild camp. Even the birdie thought so! Couldn't believe how close s/he came to you and wasn't even disturbed when you were talking. I've been feeding a feral cat for months now and he still insists on keeping a barrier between me and him. And all I want is a little snuggle and pet! lol This has been a strange week... but a friend is coming on Friday and we plan to camp at my favorite national forest campground. Another chance to sleep in my hammock in the old forest with the sound of surf and the fog horns. I'm so looking forward to it! All the best from the Oregon coast, Diana
    PS I thought that table looked familiar! Love that Georgia boy. I've been meaning to recommend Erik Normark's UA-cam videos to you, if you haven't already found him. He goes out in Sweden and Norway, all four seasons, and does some gorgeous videos. I think you'll enjoy them.

Sorry to hear you've had a strange week, I hope whatever's caused the problems subsides super quick👍🏻Wow Awesome! Great to hear you're getting out there with your mate, just can't beat a good hammock hang. The sound of surf and fog horns makes me want to join you! Wow

Yeah you're like me it's in your blood, part of who you are. Yeah there's nothing worse than being all cooped up in a stuffy house, gets very depressing lol. Ah yes Mr Robin was around camp pretty much the whole time, I think I was the guest and it was his camp! I don't think you''ll ever get bored Mike for the simple reason it's where you're meant to be - you're attuned to nature as we fellow campers are to. Let's face it we love the rain - anyone who complains about it just doesn't get it. Free bath indeed! I really liked the simple a frame old skool military set up. Reminds me of Aldershot! Nice test for the evening - serenaded by the dapple of rain. You couldn't get better in that Jungle setting. I gotta say I liked that Table. That was a good one. All the very best. Mark

    • @BlackCountryWoodsman
      @BlackCountryWoodsman  6 років тому +1

      Hi Mark, yes mate you're right...Its in our blood, either it is or isn't....I touched on this beforehand as I'm sure you have, getting the children out there amongst nature is vital to the future of this planet. I'm afraid it's being cast aside by parents, school and not covered anywhere nearly as much as it should be by all the platforms of media
      Yeah the rain is good for the spirit/soul or whatever we choose to name it.
      Ah thanks Mark, yeah thought I'd go old school with the military gear, as it's the first bits of kit I bought years ago...Shows we don't need the most expensive of gear to be able to overnighter and be comfortable.
      Thanks mate, that table is a back and knee saver! Lol

The earth needs us maaan. Show them somehow that the rain is good - can destroy to. It won't ruin that old skool gear though...ha ha!

    I was WAITING for your next upload - I think this was your best video so far and when I clicked on it here in BULGARIA it was already very late after Midnight and I thought, can I stay awake for another hour to watch this - YES, I did, fantastic editing showing the natural status of English Forestry to the extent that I could feel myself walking beside you,
    Not so sure though that the British Army Disruptive Pattern Material (DPM) works best as it was designed for campaigns in Central Europe - personally, I prefer the German Flecktarn camo - I just think that it blends in better, but it is personal choice. Nice work and waiting for the next upload. I watch a LOT of UA-cam and YOU like myself, have great content, but got our titles wrong - IF YOU had called yourself Black Country SURVIVAL then, you would have 7000 subscribers minimum by now - it is all about the click bait.
    Plus, you are a Bushcrafter, whatever that means - just get out there as you do and enjoy yourself. BTW - you didn't do a 360.

    • @BlackCountryWoodsman
      @BlackCountryWoodsman  6 років тому +1

      Hi, thank you so very much indeed my friend! Your lovely words are very much appreciated 😊🌳🌳🌳Lovely to hear that you felt you were at camp with me, believe me you'd have been made most welcome👍🏻
      Yeah I see what you mean about DPM but I do find it blends far better than the MTP one that I have. I'm the same as you, flectarn is my favourite camo and yes it blends in that little better than DPM👍🏻 Hey I was wondering if there's an actual flectarn basha? Or even a good quality tarp in flectarn? I'll have to do some research my friend. I realised flectarn was so effective when I first had the German army (twin poncho) pup tent.
      I also agree about the click bait thing, yes black country survival or survivalist would make for far more subs! Quite sad isn't it that it's all about the click bait for some.
      I'm not too sure about labeling myself as a bushcrafter. I'm more about wild camping in and on non permissioned woodland/forestry. But yes I can see what you mean, as what I do does come under the 'bushcraft title...I guess lol.
      Yes it's all about getting out there, love the colder months and can't wait to maybe someday do a full on storm camp. Obviously using all precautions and camping as safely as possible in such violent weather.
      Yeah I did the 360 but altered it in editing. It's the part of the vid where I start panning the woods and break it up into sections, where you see me reach out and hold a mountain ash branch that's in fruit etc etc
      Lovely of you to watch and comment, I really do appreciate your input 👍🏻👍🏻

    Thank you especially for the lesson on that plant, it was interesting to learn that it was a pest. On winter solstice 2018, I was looking for a camp site in a woodland in the dark and got to a huge patch of these (Im pretty sure it was them from the leaf shape). First struggled trying to get through them and then when i realized it was hopeless as they continued forever, struggled to get back out of them. They were so dense that I got battered by the time i got out haha.
    Also nice little stove, especially liked the half sized windshield, as theyre usully way too tall, but it is sold out everywhere haha.

      Hey you're most welcome, yeah rhododendron is very invasive especially by river banks im sure the plant originates from Asia. Heheh! Yes my friend they are a complete nightmare to climb through the branches and roots👍🏻Really hard going. But also ideal for year round cover being evergreen, offers valuable coverage from prying eyes when wild camping👍🏻😊👍🏻
      Ah thank you mate, yeah a nice little compact stove that weighs practically nothing...Wow they've sold out? Hopefully they'll re-stock as its very good for the money.

      But yeah i can see how they would be great cover, that time I got stuck in them, they were the only green thing in that part of the woods as it was December and all other trees were very tall so even the pines did not provide any greenery on the forest floor.
      Yeah i hope they have not discontinued the stove, as it is sold out everywhere i find it listed.

    Hi bud, I love the liquid burners, wonder how many burns you would get out of that before having to replace the sponge.
    I wish I’d have purchased the steel BCB Crusader cup instead of the black version. The paint started to peel inside the bottom of the cup after only two brews of water. I had to bin it 😞. Anyway great video again pal. I’m just working my way through them all.

    • @BlackCountryWoodsman
      @BlackCountryWoodsman  6 років тому +1

      Hi mate 👋🏻😊🌳🌳🌳
      I'm using the burner everytime I wild camp and I believe it should last indefinitely as long as you don't let the fuel fully burn out within the burner. If the carbon pad doesn't fully burn all the meths and retains some moisture it should last years, or so I believe anyway...I look forward to seeing how the little stove stands up to lots of use throughout this coming winter, and shall show on vid if there's any issues that may arise.
      Ah yes the BCB crusader cup is exellent, great choice my friend. Ah yes I never purchased the coated version because I'd heard people having the same problems as you.I do hope you can retrieve the cup? ... If you get some wire wool and fully remove the coating within, you won't have the worry of consuming any of the coating. I believe you had the mark 1 version the same as I do? Black Country Woodsman ahh right Mike I didn’t know that, I heard they do degrade over time, that’s good to know bud.
      I’m afraid I binned the BCB, I did try to get wire wool the paint off, even heated it up to soften it but just couldn’t get it all off. I’ll pick a Mk1 up for Christmas 👍. Oh and you too bud, have a great week.

      Hi mate, the Mark 1 shouldn't degrade too much as it's heavy duty stainless steel, even if used on the campfire most the time...The Mark2 doesn't look so robust to me, but then again I've never had one or physically held one. Ah so you had the mark2 cup and that's anodized aluminium, that explains why you couldn't remove the coating👍🏻
      Yeah mate I'd definately go with the stainless mark1 for Christmas, had mine years and it's as bomb proof now as the day I purchased it.
      Always nice to hear from you my friend,👍🏻
      Take care
      Mike

    Hi Mike, only just subscribed to your channel some 2 months ago, I have to do wild and stealth camping along with my nephew, because if you have an open fire then you know someone will report it, I have a lot of forrestry woods my way, and most of them are pine trees, so common sense prevails, I just use my meths stoves most of the time, enjoyed the video, where did you get the little stove from?

      Hi there, aw thank you for the sub👍🏻Hey I'm not sure if I'm subbed to you? So I'll head over to your channel and see...If I'm not I'll definately sub you back!😊🌳🌳🌳
      Ah that's cool wild camping with your nephew👍🏻🌳🌳🌳 true you have to be so so careful with campfires. If your on non permissioned land like I always am, you have to be so careful not to give your whereabouts away so fire lighting I usually leave till dusk and keep it small. Yeah meths is my preferred fuel also....Hey happy wild camping with your nephew, please let me know how you get on.
      Here's a link to where you can get the stove. Plus it's also in Amazon

      Thank you for watching and the kind words
      Have a great weekend

      @Paul Taylor Hi Paul, wow......Ive had a reverse osmosis filter myself because I used to keep marine fish.
      I do know that we are repeatedly lied to from media, and I've never taken what I've heard or read as gospel. I do believe us as a species is being dumbed down so we are more easy to deceive and manipulate. Ah you're a survivalist, that's so very cool and I understand why you'd want to avoid being on the likes of UA-cam and social media in general. Afterall it's just another way of keeping tabs on us.
      Lovely to hear from you Paul.
      Hope your evening is a good one

      Hi mate, fair enough... I find them fine for cooking on but it's all personal preference at the end of the day.
      Thank you very much for watching and your comment👍🏻
