  • In this video, I combine a few simple things in preparation for some nickel electroplating I will be doing on the 1981 Honda C70 restoration project. Spokes, nuts, bolts, etc... will be looking super nice using this method for nickel electroplating!
    Follow me on Instagram for a sneak peek of what I'm working on during the week!

    I just started Anodizing Aluminum scale model parts as home. This setup is very similar💯🤩

    I was really hoping to see how those spokes came pits and all good or bad. I do machinery restorations and was thinking of this process to brighten up certain parts like drill press columns. They often have rust staining and after scotch brite they could be improved.

      Hey Crafted! I actually restored an old Canadian Blower and Forge No. 15 drill press a few years back, the videos of said resto are on my channel, and I have the machine registered on vintage machinery as well!

      As for the spokes, they never turned out as good as I'd hoped. Had I prepped them better (sanding through finder grits, polishing, then plating) I'm sure they would have turned out like new, but I was lazy and just bought all new wheels for my C70 project!

    does it works on plastic if I spray paint it with graphite paint first?
    And Im wondering if it is possible to acclerate the process by pushing the voltage higher (e.g.: 50v)

      I'm not able to answer these questions because I've not tried these things myself. Your mileage may vary!

    Do you think this could be used to plate the inside of a motorcycle tank so that it no longer rusts?

    • @blastworks
      @blastworks  Рік тому

      Potentially, but there are far better, easier methods, like using a pour in tank liner like POR-15 fuel tank sealer! That's what I would do.

    • @jasonburhoop2890
      @jasonburhoop2890 Рік тому +1

      Tank liners frequently fail. Then you have a huge mess to clean out the liner. If the inside of a tank could be plated with a plating that wouldn’t corrode it would last forever.

      @@jasonburhoop2890 I agree, I’ve cleaned out several carbs that were clogged from pour in tank liners. Not much can hold up to gasoline over long periods of time.

    Will the setup be the same for gold plating?

    • @blastworks
      @blastworks  Рік тому

      I don't think it would be exactly the same as you'd have to get gold suspended in solution as opposed to nickel, but I'm sure there's a DIY guide out there somewhere that can help you!

    Hi. Thanks for the video. My son and I have chemically refined some nickel to a fine powder. As nickel melts at a very high temperature. I am wondering if we could electroplate a small block of solid nickel? It might take ages but I am wondering how long that ages might be and if you think it would form a block nicely at all or just do something weird?

      I don't believe a deposition process like this would work.

  • @idsans1339
    @idsans1339 2 роки тому +1

    How did the spokes turn out? Were you able to plate more than one at a time, or did you have to refinish them individually?

      @@blastworks thanks for the response. That’s too bad. I found your video in nickel plating a rabbit hole, specifically because I am going to try plating spokes from a 1977 GS550.

      @@idsans1339 I honestly just went and ordered a complete new set of wheels from the same shop on ebay that I ordered the aluminum wheels and spokes from for me XL125 rebuild. The new wheels showed up assembled and ready to go. Once I'm done cluing a couple honey-do projects that I'm working on I'll be getting ready to start assembling the old C70. I hope you stick around to check it out!
