Semantics is such a dangerous game though. Responsibilities literally create dis-abilities, ie, a hampered ability to do things. Being pregnant creates temporary disability. Can't pick up heavy stuff, can't ride Rollercoasters, all kinds of stuff.
Not to mention she literally used a qualifier, ie, "situational disability". All she asked for was a pause button.

We are making the mistake of attaching connotations to the word instead of focusing on its literal meaning, which is what liberals do all the time.
Having a responsibility like a child fits the definition of situational disability perfectly.
It's just like how liberals force all these connotations on "racism", and force this meaning of "prejudice + power", and therefore only white folks can be racist. It's stupid.
We just think of disabled as this mental or physical condition which qualifies for government subsidy, when technically it just means a diminished ability to do things, and there are many situations and conditions that could cause that.
To think of "disabled" as solely applying to people with major permanent disabilities doesn't meet the technical definition of the word, just as "prejudice + power" isn't the technical definition of racism.
We shouldn't attack people for the connotations we attach to words, which are subjective, unless it is clear that that's how they were using the word.
Controlling the meaning of language, rather than focusing on intent, in order to attack people is a PRIMARY strategy of the left.
Alanna or whatever her name is took great care to qualify the word, and stated having a chaotic environment, which is endemic to having children, technically meets that standard.
We have a duty to maintain consistency, we cannot stoop to the same level as the left. Attacking her on this point is hypocrisy, and it's primarily crazy leftists that are attacking her on Twitter.

I've completely stopped buying these companies games. Any company that has any DEI or lbgt agenda is not getting a penny from me. I've skipped several major games now. I am a guy that bought the Gold/Ultimate editions of games. So at the very least they are not getting several hundred or even thousands of dollars from me anymore. Not buying AC Shadows, Man Jaw Star Wars, Any COD etc..
My gaming disability is being a cat host. They sit on top of my PC, making it overheat; stand in front of my monitor, impairing my vision; lie on my keyboard, pressing keys I never meant to push; and try to trip me when I dash to the kitchen for a snack which they will, of course, try to steal.
Indie games are dominating the game market because:
- They are cheap. Would you rather get 6, maybe even 10, indie games versus one $130 Ubisoft "AAAA" game?
- They are simple and fun while carrying great stories.
- Surprisingly, many of the games work well upon launch and don't turn you into beta testers.
- It allows more artistic freedom over idealistic nonsense.
- Some indie games carry a surprisingly large amount of content for their lower prices.
- I've seen cases where the developers create free additional content even long after the game's release.
- There are a variety of different genres to fit everyone's tastes. One game can be farming. Another can be a roguelike. Another can be an RPG.
Let the AAA game market destroy itself. The public has warned them, but these big companies are learning the hard way when people vote with their wallets.

Similarly, Indie films are going to start taking more of the market share in the film industry. Because movies are able to be made more cheaply than they use to be (the editing and special effects). With streaming, it's only a matter of time before people are able to make indie films and distribute them for a profit over the internet. See what Disney has done to 'Star Wars'? The audience is going to look for something else.
There's a lot of worry that big corporations're going to ruin gaming. They're not. They're just opening the space for more developers that give a shit. It'll ultimately make the whole market better, after these triple A companies eat themselves.

There's a better option then just a boycott, that's a buycott combined with a boycott. Don't buy any games made by Woke Identity Politics activists, but DO buy games made by developers making good, quality games that are apolitical. If the big studios won't course correct and make good games again, those titans will eventually die and in their place, the studios making good games will pick up the sales and become the new big studios of tomorrow. This is a strategy of not just punishing the bad actors, but rewarding the ones who are doing good work. The cream will rise to the top, and the toxic waste will fall off.
Ironically having a 2 year old is a situational disability when playing a game and you kind of have to shape what you play a little bit around that. Not being able to pause is a problem and you would play something else in that case.

I stopped buying comic books because as a straight male. I don't want to pay money to see two guys kissing in a comic book. Those panels could be used for something else. This is why indie comics are flying off the shelves and marvel and DC comics are going in the sales bin.

Alright, so this one was actually really infuriating to watch/listen to. Almost 3 years ago, I suffered a career-ending spinal injury at work. Dr. Workerscomp lied to me and about me in his report, and I was denied worker's comp. I had to get an injury attorney to get compensation. That was a huge struggle.
To this day, I'm still in pain (not daily anymore, thankfully), and I cannot lift heavy things anymore. I'm probably never going to be able to box again. I've gained a lot of weight from being inactive, and I don't know if I'll ever be in shape again.
Yet, despite having a different contingency attorney, I have been denied getting on Disability. Despite my limited function, the physical incapability I'll have for the rest of my life (unless I magically get tens of thousands of dollars for surgery), and the fact that my career in roofing is over, I'm not qualified as disabled.
So when these braindead idiots try to claim disability for reading things on the internet, it makes me wish I had a functioning Death Note.

I like this, it's a good compromise.

In regards to the statement made because of Elden Ring being too hard. This has been why hardcore gamers have been gatekeeping hardcore games for years. Too many players are getting into hardcore games that can't handle them. They'll whine and cry until the devs reduce the difficulty and ruin the game for hardcore gamers. In the clip shown at around 16:05 , Alanah literally says "especially where gaming is concerned". In the context of simply playing video games, what she says makes sense.
The Twitter post you mention at 16:23 notes that it's just a technical term in the inclusive design document which also suggests that it's just a UX design philosophy.
BTW, this is the only video I've seen on the subject and I'm responding based on the information you've provided.
I don't think MS is pushing for an expansion of what counts as a medical disability but rather for game developers to be aware of situations where certain parts of their games may be inaccessible to all gamers because of different variables that can cause impairment.

That's not what she said, that's how you and many others interpreted it. When you hear the word "disability" or "disabled" you probably draw to the conclusion that it refers to someone who is physically impaired when the word is much broader. Having kids isn't a disability although it can cause situational disabilities. So can many other things. Another example could be: "I am at a party and I've drank alcohol and therefore I shouldn't drive"
It feels like a lot of you is taking this on a surface level. What words do you use when you turn off Bluetooth for example? Possibly "I disabled Bluetooth"

Going back some years, my son came to me he was around 2 years old. I was playing Mechwarrior. I saved what I was doing, picked him up and placed him on my leg. Started a new game entered the cheat codes. I guided the mech, and he got to shoot the weapons (via space bar). He had a blast, we were doing nothing but blowing up mechs but he loved it.

I have 2 kids, i have 2 cats that want attention when im gaming, i have too much light in my screen and my kids are crying sometimes and its always loud.....i will park my car in the handicap parking now and I wont be afraid to tell anyone that i am a multiple disabled person!

I know a few disabled persons. I've learned that the best way to respect them is to not recognize their disability. Treat them like normal persons, pretend they aren't disabled, don't bend your body when talking to a person on wheelchair like talking to a kid, don't ask if they need help when you see they're struggle. They can navigate on their own most of the times and they're proud of that.
Now seeing that fool listing her disability check list is absolute disgusting.

Greatest video ever. When I taught 20 years ago, special education was booming. I used to joke, if you sneezed the wrong way schools were labeling kids as special ed. Now, I was not making fun of students who had actual disabilities that justified assistance. Schools started to label their "problem children" as special ed to get a pass on state testing results.
While I don't want children myself, that statement is crazy af. I hope all these companies go under. Maybe future indie companies will learn from this and gatekeep.

Examples:
- Hungry? I have the not thinking 100% clear disability
- Didnt get the perfect amount of sleep? I have the reaction time debuff disability
- I have a Job to go to? I have the not enough time to do what I want disability
- No enough electrolytes? I got the slightly shaky hands debuff/disability
- Have not managed your Caffeine intake perfectly today? Well that could be 2 debuffs... The gittery debuff, OR the unfocused debuff/disability

Almost no one is functioning at perfection at any given time, thus we are all in a "disabled" state by your moronic definition. And thus if everyone is disabled, then no one is... Or as I stated, you maded the word useless in determining who is actually disabled...
I played video games at a semi-pro level. In order to compete you have to manage all the the above, or you get your a** kicked by anyone who is near your level and is managing those items better than you. No one in gaming would say those things unmanaged is a disability, rather they would say that they have given themselves to edge by managing them better...

In the context of the game that is a disability or a handicap she’s not saying it’s the exact same as having a broken arm or mental disability or anything like that she clearly separated the two but you are willfully ignoring it in favor of getting mad. I’m against them changing games for DEI bs but there’s no reason for the game not to have a pause button other for the sake of added “difficulty”

Most gaming companies dig their own grave the moment they go accept a huge financial support, then the DEI is expected in exchange, and SBI is brought in.
Situational disability is a tool used to remind designers and architects that sometimes people who are not handicapped are in handicapped-like situations. It is not that you are disabled because you have children, but rather if the house is on fire and you are carrying your toddler in one arm then the fire escape should not require two arms. As far as I know that is all situational disability is supposed to be used for. It's a good tool, but it should probably not be extended beyond that.
