Awesome! I was at this show and it was absolutely breath taking! Nils is completely underrated. Check out his solo on the live versions of Prove It All Night. simply amazing.
While in H.S. in Northern Virginia, I wore a button with Nils's picture on it on my jean jacket (around 1973). I was a big Grin fan and supported the l"ocal boy". My other musical hero about the same time was a relatively unknown guy named Bruce Springsteen. Imagine my happiness when the two of them got together about 10 years later. Thanks for the many memories of driving in the car listening to the 8 tracks and those sweet high school nights, boys!!
didiroesler, Peter and certainly the audience seem to love Nils effort. Better show with him than without him, obviously. Try to get up to speed on guitarists. Hee Hee.
Still watch this regularly. Turn a fabulous song into something transcendental. GOAT. Honorable mention (very honorable) to Neil Young's guesting on this song with a mandolin. If you had seen NY's version first, you might have been forgiven for thinking that it was unsurpassable, but yet it was. Nils, you are a freak!
Absolutely awesome !! I was there amazing guitar work by the Master Nils !! Thank you for posting it !! I've waited four years for this posting. No wonder it wasn't played in Washington, Nils blew Bruce away!!!!
See me and my mate would stay upalll nite listening to theseseesss guys 240hrs or so - me i'd been a huge fan for many yeas -well before RECKONING '(Chronic Town??)Anyway -me an my mate would get seriously high an drunk and play REM/BODEANS/R etc. HAVE A BLAST HES GONE NOW -SHAME -HE was a fu/////kg genuissss COULD TELL YOU HOW TO NAVIGATEVBY THE STARS AND LAND MISS HIM
Hey Stub, grew up in Maryland listening to Grin. Nils is only four years older than I am. Heard the first Grin album, the one with the sneakers on the cover and was blown away. Been great ever since. Believe Brother.
sorry geezer, watched it again and still think it's fretboard overload. Michael is caught a couple of times with a hand to his head with a look of WTF resignation on his face. Peter appears to try and end the song 16 bars earlier but Nils just carries on. Maybe one day when you start wearing big boy pants you'll realise that having an opinion that differs from yours doesn't necessarily make someone an idiot/dufus
Nils is a marvellous player and his solo work and stuff with Neil Young, Stringbean etc is testament to that but absolutely the last thing this glorious song needs is fretboard wanking, I don't care who it is.
@malzawag Michael will often put his hand over his head like that during the solo part of this song..watch some other performances...doesn't mean you're not right, but that's not an indication whether or not Michael likes what's going on.
Just saw neil young play this,,then came across nils playing it too.awsome.🤘🤘🤘🤘🛸🛸🛸🛸
Fantastic solo by Nils. I really wish this recording was better. I'd love to hear a clean recording of that solo. Dios mio.

Michael Stipe has never heard so many notes coming from a guitar on his stage!
that´s so very true, ha, ha, ha
What a stupid comment

i wear big boy pants and all i can say is i'd like to see you do a better job.
Nils Lofgren, If Carlsberg made great guitar players they would make them like him. The best.
They invited a virtuoso guitarist to take the stage with them. What did you think he was going to do, Play chords?

BTW, amazing how many morons saw fit to comment on this clip. Really.
Ooohh, didn't we get out of the wrong side of bed?
Oh I WAS THERE !! It was amazing, this does not do it justice but many thanks for the posting !!a
kneel down in front of the best guitarist ever to hit a stage. didiroesler: You got no idea of real greatness!
Yeah man 👍

MISS HIM
Great jumpin' jeebus in a chicken basket!!! That was B-O-N-K-E-R-S! It's almost more like 'Nils Lofgren live', w/ R.E.M. coming out for a song.
Haunting!
Lol its funny how Nils doesn't give a damn if music is going on while he is setting up his guitar just the way he wants it to sound!

Lol....They can only wish they could play like Nils!
So was I absolutely blew the place away !! This doesn't do it JUSTICE !!!!

too busy yeah. But you seem to be from the same area of the world I'm from. We have a different style of play down here.
I have just checked out what you have uploaded. HA HA HA HA HA HA HA BLOODY HA!
Get a jack to jack cable to mini disc recorder, job done!
True love
the faces of Mike and Peter tell averything about how good is Nils. They are mesmerized.

Absolutely awesome! Nils is the Greatest!!!!!!!!
Brilliant !
sorry, but Peter is better!
ORLANDO !!!!! this was awesum I was there and so looked forward to a repeat in Washington , but Rem and Nils did not perform it !!!
If only this was available to download. Beautiful version of this song!

Lofgen is a great guitar player, but this song doesn't need that. It's like drawing a mustache on the Mona Lisa.
Not the best version
Nils Lofgren massacre cette magnifique chanson grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
