First time saw him 1977 Newcastle City Hall 'I Came to Dance' tour - supporting act was Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers. Seen several times solo since, also 1985 when Bruce Springsteen played St James Park two days in a row to massive crowds 'Born in the USA' tour. When first saw 'the Boss' 1981 at City Hall far less than 2,000 capacity for 'The River' tour..... most of us only bought tickets because fairly cheap and we'd listened to imported copies of 'Born to Run'
I was a 16 year old apprentice carpenter & joiner back in 1977 and funds were low. However, Mick Donoghue, a of the painters & decorator in the same small company, used to loan me his numerous albums of Nils and Bruce, the rest is music history, thanks, Mick.
An amazing interpretation of Bruce and Pattie's classic by Nils, who is a phenomenal guitarist and songwriter ( Keith don't go and Cry tough being just two examples )

Listen to Neil's body of work starting with Grin, his subsequent solo career, backing other greats & with E Street. Man this guy invented licks & riffs never heard in American Rock prior. He can hold his own with any of the guitar greats. Sure this piece is a bit crowded But hey, I'll listen to this guy any day. Not to mention seems to be a genuine & humble guy. Good stuff!
I believe no one can twirl a lead around like this man and should be proclaimed the best electric guitarist in the world in any class- I'll through for classical he would need two weeks. I saw Grin, 2nd row George Town 30 years ago. It wasn't until 30 years later I learned he and the grin boys made a run the the West Coast and found Neil Young at 16 and he was playing in a week. Any Resume' takers. Springsteen should be arrested for taking the best drummer and guitarist

Back in 80-81 i was offered a ticket to see this band from a beautiful young woman. Don’t ask me why but i passed. Probably one of the dumbest things i ever did.
Damn if I don't miss watching Nils playing a lead, then mini-tramping a flip or 2 landing on stage doing the splits. -. The standing up from splits (No hands!) in time for spot on vocals! You bet he rocks!!!
Nils is the man, phenomanal player - if bruce let him 'go' at a solo it would take over the whole song and overshadow the rest of the band - and I dont think thats what bruce is looking for.
