The lack of inspiration is winter. It gets old really fast-as you pointed out. I have been recovering from surgery for a month now and cannot wait for Spring. Congratulations on your Wordle success!
I hope you don't take this the wrong way but may I suggest that you edit your videos better? You literally said that you "just had therapy" 4 times in less than one minute. I don't know the point you wanted to make by leaving those repeated words in. And you said that you don't have anything to show us because you've been working, but I think it would also be nice to see what you do for "work". Like when you used to do cleaning time lapses with music over it. You could also show how you prep for a photoshoot like do you make a mood board, do you get points of reference from the company, etc? I really miss when you used to put more effort into your videos with the content and the editing (ie even simply writing in the date on the footage). I feel that now you just splice all the clips you took of yourself together and hit export. The footage is choppy and because you're always holding the phone/camera, it's so shaky and disorienting.
Maybe not everybody watches to judge the editing level. You also have the option of just not watching at all.
Not taking this the wrong way at all, it's really helpful feedback! Thank you! xx
@@LizzyHadfield Good on you for taking it the way I'm sure it was meant - as constructive! I would also like to ask if you can please (please!) look into the camera lens when you are speaking to us. It's a small thing, but very noticeable. Thank you! 😊
That's the best video title ever.
whenever i feel stuck for outfit inspiration I go through those videos like "what everyone is wearing in new york" or paris etc. - so many eclectic styles and so easy to get inspired by the people they stop
Hey Lizzy, I really miss your style videos like testing basics or your monthly favorites. I know with New York your focus of videos is a bit different now and also super calm and enjoyable but will you bring those back eventually?😊
CONGRATULATIONS! Haha, brilliant. Loved this vlog, I'm obsessed with seeing the New York content. I think extreme weather is really hard to dress for, I feel like a right show when I go out right now even though I love coats, it's all the other nonsense you need on top of that (gloves, hats, scarf etc.). Hopefully with Spring around the corner things will get better and also some inspo from the fashion week street style will start to come through. Have a fab week and sending lots of love. xoxox
I think it's something about the start of the year that just makes for ruts ! I've recently switched industries and I'll be working in a office and remote setting and literally I'm panicking over wtf I'm going to wear. Getting dressed and styling has always been easy for me pre-pandemic but now I'm freaking out trying to figure what I'll wear everyday. In December I loved my closet and now I'm like "why is everything so boring" "am I boring ?!?" 😫😫😫 You're not alone Lizzy!!!!! I think it's all the hype we place on new years there's always a come down after that. And this is that come down
You really made me smile through the whole video - I totally relate to you! January was very tough for me and the people around me too... Maybe we're all just generally tired from everything that was going on. Nevertheless I love how funny you are 💕
Congrats on Wordle in one, Lizzy!! And, I used to live in NYC and your comments about the snow are so spot on! It’s great for about 5 minutes, then it really gets yucky. I also just bought some similar New Balance black sneakers, and totally agree with you on puffer coats, too! I have decided I’m just not a puffer person. Thanks for this vlog…you always inspire me in many ways, so don’t underestimate yourself.
congrats lmao.... agree that feb has been dreary hope it picks up. I love listening to your book reviews. enjoy the city!
I’ve also just finished death in her hands and had similar feelings. Definitely read my year of rest and relaxation it’s amazing and one of the strangest book’s I’ve ever read. I have overstory to read next, love the book chats.
Lizzy you are in NYC! why don't you make a point of visit a bunch of museums, galleries and places of cultural interest for inspiration? Also you love a coffee and there are so,so many amazing spots all over the city to settle into for the afternoon and people watch for outfit inspo. there are a lot of "what people are wearing in NYC" vlogs here on youtube. NYC is great for vintage shopping with huge vintage stores and more refined edited stores all over the place so you might find your desired brown leather jacket IRL. your planning to split your life between London and ny so you might as well get out there, get to know the city and soak up the inspiration. bigger life conflicts than Wordle lol
have fun & F the meh!
Thank you David! i promise I am getting out there but mostly socialising at the moment to maintain my friendships here - but I will be sure to incorporate lots of what you suggest into my lifestyle and therefore my videos. Thank you again! X
Wow, what a condecending comment…
@@josepha133 I take it you are easily offended 🙄
dont worry! ive lived in the city for 5.5 years and once you get over the hump of february; it all gets better! love the content lizzy!
I totally get you. I've been feeling so uninspired as well. I haven't been able to find new clothes that excite me since September and it has been quite the struggle to come up with something fresh and not wear the same three turtleneck sweaters every time I go out. The ridiculously cold weather outside does not help as well.
Love your sense of humor! 😂 I'm sure the "meh" feeling will pass away once we get more sunshine and warm weather!
Yes agree totally as I put on another black outfit. That doesn’t help my mood but have no energy to choose something else. I think it’s winter and we are all over it. Congrats on wordle 😘 springs just around the corner ...
Lol Lizzy I love your angsty winter energy in this, because I experience it every year in Toronto 😅. No number of years with it makes the complaints subside. I fantasize about moving to California or Mexico or Italy. Try not to put too much pressure on yourself to feel inspired, but I do find looking outwards at other mediums (casually, outside of work) always helps me. Movies and shows are a big inspo for fashion but I feel like anything that draws you into a certain feeling or setting can be helpful ❤
It1s definitely the start of the year! I feel January and February take forever to get through. And like the said the outfit is essentially COAT. I bought a spring coat today, knowinfg full well it'll be at least a month before I can wear it, but at least it made me feel a little inspired.
Maybe try looking at your past outfits for inspiration from the same time of year and recreate outfits that you felt great in. Could also be a great video too! Would also love to see what vintage shopping is like in NY x
1) getting the Wordle in 1 guess is my dream congratulations you are magic
2) January/February are garbage months and all I care about is getting through them. I never expect to enjoy those months because they are cold and dark without the festivity and joy. They suck so much. You’re not alone. I’m just trying to coast through til March
3) the pandemic has really affected my taste in clothing. I think more about practicality than anything else and I’m way less into fashion than I used to be. But also, I feel like you know yourself and your style so well that part of me feels like something new needs to really wow you to be a part of your wardrobe. I’m probably projecting but that was my first instinct while you were talking!
My year of rest and relaxation is great but it does leave you with an almost gross sad feeling as you read it. I did really enjoy it though!
The end of this vlog is EXACTLY how I've been feeling this week too. Like I have 0 inspiration for what to wear/shop, I also can't be bothered to make the most of my current wardrobe.. very much in a rut!
So strange, I'm the opposite way round at the moment in Australia... Still in a rut with clothes, but I'm hanging out for the cooler weather as I always end up in just a t-shirt and jeans in the warmer weather, which I like, but I loooove layering in winter. I feel much more like myself hidden under my knitwear and coats. Loving the New York vlogs! Makes me miss it so much, can't wait to go back.
hear you so much on feeling "bleugh" + uninspired atm. i unfollowed soooo may accounts that i felt i *should* follow rather than bc i wanted to. the knack just wore off +, after almost a decade in fashion, i realised that i could give it up without feeling like i was missing out. now, all i watch is silent koren food youtubers/the occasional blogger/yt-er. hope you feel better soon!
February is my most challenging month- dark and cold! We are expecting another -5 F this weekend. We are nothing but puffer coats in the Midwest. I guess maybe that is why we dress so casual - need to be as comfortable as possible while layering lots of thermals.
I love sunny winter days.. Try to imagine the clothes you would use with a perfume or a sourd of a song. These sensorial experiences are great to get inspired.
Congrats on getting Wordle in one! I didn't know that was even possible. I just spent two weeks in London and I loved the weather. I can't believe anyone would go to New York in the winter on purpose. I feel so blah after coming home to freezing cold temps. You're not alone. No inspiration here!
The title, thumbnail and the end of the video got me like xDDDDDD. CONGRATULATIONS
the thumbnail and title are so good, highly relatable wordle vibe
Feeling blah thanks for asking and my skin too has been super dry due to the weather here in Toronto
Also you mentioned the rain in NYC, I read somewhere that it rains there more than Manchester!!! Nuts!! You can decide for yourself having lived in both!
I agree with you about Death on her hands so much! I kinda like her style, but I never quite enjoy her books. It was the same for me with My Year of Rest and Relaxation, but I do recommend you read it nevertheless. It's difficult to explain, but she has something very novel and very special, just never love her books. Reading that back it doesn't make any sense at all, but oh well haha.
I always get into that kind of fashion rut at this time of year, i just get so sick of wearing sweaters and coats everyday but its too cold to wear anything else
I felt very much the same about death in her hands but really enjoyed my year of rest & relaxation! I know lots of people don't though. I find her writing style so enticing. Also there's so many great fashion creators & content on TikTok - just gotta find them and get them into your algorithm!
Feeling so low in inspo too!!
Love the NYC vlogs! Oh gosh, -4 can sometimes feel like a welcome change when Toronto get's to -15-20! Come back to TO since you're so close!
The new balance looks so good!!
feeling very blah too! feel ya!
Stoppp. I still peruse my tumblr when I need inspiration too!! It never fails me
loving this kind of vlog so much❣✨ and really amazed about how you explain about books. Can you make a book recommendation video it would be so nice :) thankuuu hope you doing well
I'm feeling the same kind of lethargy. I'm working on my phd (in history of art!) and I was chatting with some of the others also working on their dissertations. We all agreed that for some reason the start of this year feels particularly slow and crap. We decided maybe it was omicron whiplash, where we thought everything was going to plunge into darkness again and then it sort of just didn't? But then we were stuck in the head space where we thought we were about to go into lock down again and were struggling to pick ourselves back up. One thing that helps me is to look at something completely different to reset yourself. So rather than focusing on super contemporary art I go back to modernism or figurative painting. Maybe taking yourself out of what you're focusing too hard on in terms of your own style and looking at something completely different might help reset your brain too? Like the fashion galleries at the MET where there must be all sorts of fascinating historical or contemporary costumes. Not saying to start wearing a crinoline or anything! But just to refocus on what you like based on a comparison to something completely different. Plus you might find some connections or things that resonate with you that you hadn't thought of before too? I hope that makes sense! Loving the content as always!
Thank you for your comment! I’m starting an honours year in history at the end of this month and feel so stuck. Inspiration can be precarious and squashed by uncertainty. You wonder what the heck do I do? Beside all that, having a shared experience does help. You mentioned other students also preparing their dissertations and the perspectives you gain from them. Even me reading your comment I found some relief.
Wishing you all the best with your phd! I hope you continue finding the enjoyment in it
@@lauren2103 Congratulations! That is a fantastic achievement and I hope you enjoy it. You're absolutely right, shared experience is really important. Especially in academia where you kind of exist in a vacuum of comparison and competition. Although I guess a lot of fields are the same. I really struggle with imposter syndrome even when things are going really well, and having not stepped foot in an archive in two years you really do wonder what the heck am I doing??
Anyway, congrats again and I hope motivation and inspiration comes through soon! x
I'm feeling good but it's mainly because in 13 days I'm going on holiday for the first time in over 2 years, our baby's 1st holiday. So the promise of Barbados is definitely making me feel chipper here in Manchester!
I think it's definitely that February feeling, I feel like everyday is groundhog day at the moment, a bit depressing. Style wise, if I'm in a rut, I always turn to Death by Elocution Tumbler, which I'm sure you know of too, but I always find ideas on there which are easy to be inspired by or recreate! Say hi to NYC for me, been a very long time since I've been but hopefully some day soon I'll visit again!
My solution to style ruts is going people watching in stead of Pinterest/instagram/… maybe hard with the temperatures right now in NY but when I’m bored with fashion v stylized images annoy me and the algorithms show me the same thing all the time anyway :)
I bought a stainless steel double roller recently. I thought about it for ages because it was expensive, but one morning waking up in a very hot and stuffy hotel room I became suddenly desperate for the cooling and hypnotic sensation of this roller, so I ordered it there and then.
I just read two great books: vladimir by julia may jonas and great circle by maggie shipstead, I think you'd like them both.
As a Torontonian now living in New York, I 100% agree with your assessment of snow in the city - it is a grey slushy mess almost immediately. In terms of how to feel like you are more than just a coat all winter long - accessories are your friend. Bright hats and scarves, big earrings, a variety of sunglasses, etc. I know they only take you so far, but just remember, everyone else feels like they are just a coat, too, and spring is coming.
By February I'm usually tired of winter fashion and looking forward to Spring fashion but I can't buy anything because it's too cold. February is a limbo month.
Whenever I feel meh and can’t even find something to get inspired from, I watch a movie. A Nancy Meyers, sort of 90s vibes movie. And then I get immersed into it and feel better.
I’d love to see more of New York please 🙏 do a day out book shopping eating etc
I just had a similar experience of feeling blah when solo traveling. The problem is, I let myself be overcome by it instead of actively fighting against it by going out and seeking inspiration. Biggest regret. Its way easier said than done, but take advantage of your surroundings! And also know that its COMPLETELY fucking normal to feel this way even though logically you think you have no reason to. Anyway, your capacity to make sardonic comments is envious, I wish I had that skill. 🤣
Lizzy! I literally woke up this morning and thought "I miss Lizzy's vlogs" and then got this notification and was like wait a second...hahah
coming back after actually watching the vlog just to say that I've been feeling more blah and off than ever in the last bit, so it's definitely not just you. let's just get through febuary by any means and hope for the best after that honestly lol
You’re absolutely right...it’s freezing outside
I live in the Southern Hemisphere but I have to say I’m feeling much the same down here despite being height of summer. A lot of the people around me are also feeling the same way. Have a feeling this could be covid fatigue, going on the third year of a pandemic is very tiring
Definitely feeling very blah. I think it's the combination of the absolute shit weather and a very busy time when u don't really have things that u give u energy.
Wordle in one!!! I dream of that day. Yes I couldn’t agree more..everything is meh, blah, and the fucking same! 😂 We just gotta get through this month. Also…do you have a humidifier? It’s been a game changer for my skin and how I feel when I wake up in the morning!
There is no injunction in feeling constantly inspired, constantly at the top and on top of everything. Even if obviously we prefer to feel good, I find it interesting to accept leaning into my discomfort. Mostly because I know now it is ephemeral, only temporary. In those time I focus on being present with what I already own, with what is already filling my space. I am not talking about forcing yourself to be excited about you have, but simply being there with what is. More inspiring times ARE coming, but for now it's the blurry phase and it's okay. Yes we wear the same jumpers over and over, yet we drink our favourite tea that doesn't even taste that flavourful because we know it too well. Yes we miss that way we used to feel not that long ago and don't quite remember it anymore. But all of this is part of the game. It is what makes the moments of deep inspiration more beautiful. Leaning into the lack of inspiration, taking it as it is and not forcing anything, but keeping a focus on little simple pleasures even if we're bored (reading with a cup of something warm in a nook, wearing fresh socks, getting in a warm shower or bath, get a cosy piece of warm bread somewhere, journaling...small things of that type) and instead of wishing we were feeling different...just staying there and wearing that well known jumper, wearing those same jeans, those same shoes, just for a little bit...patience and trust that February is soon over and Spring awaits on the other side of this bubble.
I do accept that you're a genius as well as stylish and beautiful, but I will still watch until the end!
Definitely feeling bleh, some days more than others though. Been really lacking outfit inspo as well!
As a replacement for an ipod the apple watch works great! you can download music and podcasts onto it and leave your phone at home! Basically an ipod around your wrist
Oh man, I’ve been feeling blah. Glad it’s not just me.
I can also report that I have been feeling a bit bleargh the last couple of weeks and I'm not even in a snowy new york
1: love the brown leather idea 2: would a hair refresh offer divine inspiration? 3: two nyc stores i find inspirational (however never visited) are sincerely tommy and maryam nassir zadeh store. the winter slump is nearly over! things are also blah in the Southern Hemisphere.
That was in.tense!
I completely agree about Wordle; it's become a main facet of my personality WAY too quickly. Congrats on getting it in one guess!!!
Lizzy, I like your top!
If I were able to do Wordle in one go, I think I would scream! Congrats!
I always watch till the end ✨ but I'll accept it without context anyways 😜
I’m currently reading 📖 a book called A Diet For A New America by John Robbins, Dune by Frank Herbert, and A Long Walk to Freedom by Nelson Mandela
I loved Say Nothing! Such a good non fiction read x
Thank you for being you, Lizzy! Love your vlogs
The amount of time devoted to wordle in this vlog further convinces me that we would be friends if only we were to meet 😂😂
You can get iPod classic that’s used! 🎵
Say Nothing is the best narrative nonfiction book I've ever read. Period. It's incredible. You MUST read it all the way through, and then listen to Patrick's podcast "Wind of Change." He's a stupendous investigative reporter and storyteller.
I lived in NYC for 4 years and am very familiar with this malaise you speak of. Could it be New York? Of course on paper there’s so much happening, so much inspiration, so much to do… but it can be a tough place to live. Hope you get out of your rut soon! And congrats on the wordle. My best so far is 2 guesses.
Wearilive has just left NYC for LA for this reason. Big cities can be lonely places but also frenetic
I love that you're still a Tumblr girl!
Say nothing is a fantastic book. Northern Irish history is a complete ball ache to get your head around. This is the first book I’ve read that’s easy to keep track of.
Also. Any chance you could film some vintage shopping in New York?
Sorry if you already said this but where is your white shirt from at the beginning? Used to have one like that and loved it!
I was thinking the wordle would be TenSE. It wasn’t. Carry on….
I'd love to know some of the tumblr accounts you follow/look to for inspiration! A wonderful vlog as always
Why not go to some of the vintage stores NY is famous for.......Karen Brit Chick has a multitude of them on her list of places to go. Buffalo Exchange springs to mind...you may find that brown leather jacket!
Where is the white shirt from that your wearing in the first part of the video from?
does anyone know where Lizzy's long sleeve white top at the start of the video is from?
Where is the necklace from please? ❤❤❤
G E N I U S 😂 congratulations, and yep, right there with you feeling boring and uninspired.
Whats the name of the live band you saw? Sounded cool!
Yeah I have this longing to look forward to something. I live in northern europe so it's just cold and grey here as well and being in year three of the pandemic is just boring as shit really.
Very nice video, thanks for sharing new friend
honored to have a part in one of your worst hangovers ever hahahhahahahahahahahahhahaha
anyone know where her blue jumper is from?
I've felt blah for 2 years now, so there's that xD
Hi Lizzy, if you’re enjoying your book on the IRA, you may be interested in the Netflix series ‘Rebellion,’ which follows a trio of young women during the Irish war for Independence (1920?). I thoroughly enjoyed it.
does anyone know the name of the band that played around 10:30?
If you like books with different formatting you might like Little Scratch?
I was thinking tease
Well, February is always terrible because Valentine’s Day is more like Galentine’s Day if you’re single...but if you don’t have any friends...I guess you can’t even have that
I actually want it to rain because my new umbrella 🌂 is supposed to arrive tomorrow
Have you ever read anything by Helen Oyeyemi?
I LITERALLY SAID THOSE at the start of the vlog hahahaha
Lizzy your feelings of being a walking coat are typical of winter weather. It’s not an inspiration season for those who live in countries/states that truly experience winter. 🥶 Sadly the lack of inspiration during the winter season isn’t usually limited to style either. It can affect your mood as well.
Lizzy, please start posting your film photos on your Instagram account again. They’re so lovely and such an inspiration.
