    Tell us about the experience - how are you feeling about being away from home? How do you like the city? What's different about the places you've been? What's going on with reno at home and are you stressed not being there to see it? Where is Luigi? Are you finding it difficult to work away from your normal space and routine?

    I think people were just caught off guard because when you mentioned the trip before you left you broke it down to us in a similar way you did Japan and talked of vlogging a 20’ somethings solo travel diary like you did for Japan. Then the vlogs came and they were so different feeling - almost as if we had lost the invite in the post - very exclusive just a glimpse and the rest is private which I think was unexpected. But now you’ve said this it’s very clear that you’re not travelling in a sense you’re just catching up with friends and doing your own thing and it’s only natural to keep those things private so then of course reflected in a vlog that would look completely different! Not sure if that makes complete sense, feels a bit like a waffle, but might give you some perspective?? All the coffees look incred, loving the fashion and the new bag! X

    I love your style of travel vlogs, not overly focussing on the high lights, but mostly capturing the “vibe” of the place (for lack of a better word). what I like most are the moments you film of the city with some music playing in the background, and your commentary ofc!

    Hi Lizzy! I enjoy how casual these vlogs are because that’s how every day life is. I think what would be helpful is to provide more context as to what you’re doing in nyc especially since you’ve been there for a few weeks and it seems like your stay is going to continue for a few more. Your partnership with Flattered helped provide some context but it’d be great to get a better sense of why you’re in the city so as to ground viewers more. Even if there is no definitive “why” and you simply are enjoying your time and want to stay abroad longer, getting a sense of that would be helpful. But at the end of the day, do what you want because your viewers appreciate everything you create. So glad you’re enjoying the city!

    Feel it is so positive that you are asking for feedback. I think you're great and love the conversational nature of your blogs...but would love more of the context of what you're doing in NYC, how long are you planning to be there, what is on your to do list, updates on home projects, maybe some shots of great food or restaurants you've been to. The content at the moment maybe feels a bit disorganised and I think a little context would really elevate it. When you're back in the UK it would also be great to hear more about how you bought your house, budgeting etc...one of the things I do struggle with for much influencer content is the disconnect between the free products you receive to promote and the realities of non-influencer lives and not receiving free products...what are your thoughts on this? This year you've clearly worked very hard, bought a house, gone on an amazing holiday, bought designer handbags but most people wouldn't be fortunate enough to do all of these things in one year even if they were earning a considerable amount of money...I think it's important that you address this to some degree because otherwise it feels a little flippant and maybe as if everyone can easily do these things. I would be interested to hear your thoughts on the weightier topics that surround your industry...you're obviously a great business woman and it could be really inspiring to get a glimpse into this. I hope this comes across as constructive rather than critical...keep evolving and growing...you're great! xx

    The new world vlogs have been lovely to look at, but maybe your critic was reacting to their being emotionally disengaged- flat. There is no Luigi to fuss over and adore, no household worries to fret over, etc. You might share a bit of that kind of content in a travel vlog, since travel has its own peculiar anxieties, without sharing relationship information. I think that as your fashion content has become more oriented to rather expensive brands and basic pieces it has lost some of its ‘relatability,’ so we are looking for a sense of connection in other areas of your life. Not very reasonable, I know, but there it is.

    • @sovrappensiero1
      @sovrappensiero1 2 роки тому +1

      I do agree with the point about fashion content becoming more oriented to rather expensive brands and how this causes loss of relatability. I actually feel this less with Lizzy's channel, but 100% it's why I stopped following another UA-camr I love (Gemary, from Miami - absolutely adore her but I really notice that when I see a new video from her I have this distinct thought: "Oh she's going to show gorgeous pieces I adore that are waaayyy out of my price range, so let's not even go there...") I try not to comment about this because I think content creators should absolutely build their content the way they want, and they shouldn't cater to what I or anyone else wants to see...but since I read your comment, yeah...I do feel this too. Less with Lizzy, though more and more frequently her affordable brands of choice are ones not available in the US (e.g. Weekday, Arket). The other thing that causes me to lose interest in a channel is home renovations...that's kind of like, "Eh, if there's nothing else to watch I'll tune into this...," but only because I don't have a home to renovate and the real estate situation right now means I probably never will, and I hate being reminded of that. But again, Lizzy (and every content creator) should definitely do what makes them happy and what pays the rent, and hopefully those are usually one and the same, LOL.

    Hey Lizzy ! I'm not one to comment any vlog usually, but since you were talking about it, here I go... I personally really love your vlogs and how you come across the internet - as a mature, fun and driven woman! But those past few month, it in fact seems like you are a bit disconnected, not enjoying to share your life with us (and it's totally comprehensible). Personally, I felt this change for the last 6 months. I think it came, for me, from the talk you had about how you were thinking as yourself on the internet, how you reflected on the matters of race and wealth/consumerism (and lighter content is also important, but it is sometimes diapointing to not see the talk continue after big events, even though the reality is stil the same), and it was quite nice to hear your opinion and to witness your engagement. But then, I feel like it fell flat. I am not in any way saying that you have disengaged with those topics, but you don't share your thought process as you once have. For exemple, I feel like you barely talked or explained the book and how you wrote it with Lindsey, or why and how you bought a house, or how you created and designed your shoe collection, or even simple things like what books you are reading and why you loved them or not. I am well aware that the past year and a half was quite complicated and particular, and that sharing your life on the internet must be quite draining and isn't something natural, and seeing you enjoy life as much as you do is really fun!! But maybe your viewers would like to feel like you share a bit more of your thoughts and reflexions (and maybe a bit less sponsored content, it's true), and if you feel up to it, you can continue to include us in that process !! I hope this comment don't come across as mean or too critical, it is just how i personally felt and the reflexion of the comment already present on this video.
    Anyway, it is so fun to watch you enjoy yourself and be this happy, plus you are indeed a very talented videographer ! Xx.

      Hello! I want to say this in the kindest way possible.. Just would like to flag that it's unfair to request less sponsored content from Lizzy. It insinuates that you want all of her hard work (it takes hours and hours to edit vlogs and actually to even plan what you want to share in a vlog each week) to go without any payment. As you mentioned you personally love her vlogs, so the time spent to film and edit them is well deserved of a sponsorship to back it up so she can be paid as this is her full time job. I also think she is a creator who chooses sponsorships that are absolutely perfectly on brand, and for me they don't feel any different to when she discusses content that isn't sponsored. Please just bare this in mind when you are watching sponsored content, nobody expects you to turn up for work without being paid! It's no different for online creators. Lizzy does an amazing job at balancing sponsored and non sponsored content :) xxx

    • @stellou46
      @stellou46 2 роки тому +9

      @@ashowens_ I totally agree, and I never said that I was against sponsorship ! I just mentionned that I feel like it was more central in her work than before and that i felt it as a viewer…. I know well that sponsorship is essential in her work, but sometimes it can be a lot, especially when you begin to think about consumerism in general, as I said I would be happy to learn about the content of the partenerships and how it reflect and how it is integrated in her style( like when the collaboration with & other stories was happening : why this piece especially, why it was chosen or maybe rent certain piece like with net à porter at a certain point) as for her shoe collection for example ! I don’t think that my message was focused on this point, I just suggested that it could be integrered differently. But of course I support her work and respect it, and this is why i responded to her interrogations, without, I think, any disrespect. I don’t expect her to do a job without a pay, of course, but i think that in general partnership can be revisted, and this for every brand and influencer! It was à suggestion, and I think we can speak about those topics of we stay respectefull in general! If my comment came accross as disrespectfull i apologize !

    @saskiasalina7663 2 роки тому +46

    Also I think some of the negativity that I’ve noticed on your account as well as on some of your peers stems from the increasing disconnect in terms of financial means. ‘Regular people’ watch vlogs and have difficulty grasping how something that appears quite easy can earn the means to live so lavishly. I don’t mean this as criticism towards your or your peers. This is a free market and the demand for what you produce is such that you earn seemingly well while appearing to work comparatively little. Whether that’s true or not is a different matter. But vlogs do nothing to dispel this impression of unfairness, because for obvious reasons, ‘work’ is not heavily featured in them. And paired with many expensive bags, clothes, travels, etc, it fosters quite a lot of resentment and jealousy.

    • @Lyndseyde
      @Lyndseyde 2 роки тому +12

      Really good point. I think sometimes when the content seems a bit more “lazy” people are led to think the creator can no longer be bothered as they’ve made enough money out of us.

    • @already8use
      @already8use 2 роки тому

      remember that a lot these things are gifted or sponsored. and if not they still get enough money to pay for pieces they really want if most of others stuff is gifted. Kinda hard to really know but I think paid partnerships and collabs, books can explain some of it. But I tend to remember that we only see 20mn of someone s life everyday - someone that is well aware thousand of people are going to see their videos. They won't show the hard difficult part.

    • @saskiasalina7663
      @saskiasalina7663 2 роки тому +2

      @@already8use yes but receiving gifts is also a form of financial compensation derived from the fact that the influencer is popular with a viewership that is conversely not receiving these gifts. Again, this is not a criticism of Lizzie or any of her peers. She is in this position because we enjoy her content. But that comes with some resentment which I think is to be expected. And regarding the 20 min; sure. A vlog can’t contain 5 hours of her on her laptop doing admin.

    • @sovrappensiero1
      @sovrappensiero1 2 роки тому +1

      I was actually thinking that possibly Lizzy's career has kind of diversified a bit (with the shoe collab, the book, maybe other stuff she isn't ready to share yet) and that maybe that's the reason her vlog/UA-cam content isn't "as good" as before. She may literally have a lot more work on her plate, and less time to dedicate to vlogging and UA-cam. It really does take a lot of time and energy to vlog (it's not simply carrying around a camera...you have to really think differently, like not only "where am I going to go for lunch?" but also, "what are the kinds of video clips and shots I can get," plus putting them together, handling the audio, etc. Well-done vlogs are a lot of work. But you definitely have a point about generally influencers having expensive goods...it makes then less relatable. Honestly, if they get them free it's worse to me. If my favorite influencer saved money to buy a specific pair of shoes, my opinion is totally different than if she got them free through a partnership or through affiliations, etc.

    • @saskiasalina7663
      @saskiasalina7663 2 роки тому

      @@sovrappensiero1 I think you have a point. Also I keep hearting YT isn’t as easy to monetize so influencers are less and less willing to put work into it, which is fair enough (though personally it’s my favorite medium). I agree about the gifted goods. I think there’s another aspect, which is that influencers feel they don’t owe the viewers justifications. The ‘if you don’t like it, go elsewhere‘ argument. Which has some merit, in all fairness. But also, their viewers are the source to their success. So it’s a difficult position to handle.

I love your fashion sense, but as of late it seems like the way you share your outfits is quite different to before. Maybe most pieces aren't easy to replace for ones with a lower price point? It's just that NYC is my n1 favorite city and I felt it was a shame that we could not feel enough of the NYC vibe. It s a city where you dont need to be with someone to have so much fun. Thrift shops, art galleries, cute coffee places, great scenery during walks, great people, amazing food etc..that's what I felt was missing. But exciting to see more no matter what content it is! So many great recommendations below. xx

      I think it’s time for you to start your channel with your own content so you can make content for nyc to your pleasures as it is //your// #1 city. Lizzy’s vlogs are signature to her and it is telling.
      You are still pushing for your own narrative. It’s would not be Lizzy Hadfield content at that point hm? This video and previous videos are no different than her other travel and normal day to day vlogs.

      I think you saying ' This must be the most boring vlog I've ever seen', was definitely rather negative and hurtful. It's always good to get mixed opinions, but also helpful to think about how to say it in a constructive way :)

      @@kawawawawas I dont live in new York unfortunately but I would definitely if I were to live in NYC longer.
      As far as I know giving advice of how a content could be better is not wrong. A lot of content creator ask '' What do you want see, what could be improved etc...' The fact that a lot of people felt that more could be added to these vlogs especially is a sign. I wrote a comment because I care and I have been watching the vlogs for many years now. It's her content but comment section is there for a reason as well.

    I personally can't wait to get back to the house!! It felt like such a whirlwind buying a beautiful place and then undergoing immediate renos, so much happening at once! And I think to come off that into a chill/slower vibe of travelling new cities is just a stark contrast? I love your style and don't care about affordability/attainability. I love your articulation and wit. I love the way you curate things, and I guess it's fun for me to see that through the styling of your home. I also know it isn't as easy to vlog in public/new surroundings as it is at home where we're most comfortable (so ofc shots are going to be a little shorter bc of that, and it's harder to string those clips together to tell a story) - but to coin a phrase from a few vlogs back, "in for a penny, in for a pound" 🤍

    Seeing the places you go with friends and the vibe, without the friends themselves. Also I may be odd in this but I’d love to know how your workday breaks down- what does work for an ‘ influencer’ actually entail?! Otherwise I love your wanderings- plenty of other videos to watch if we want a tourist ‘guide’ to a city!

    I agree with a lot of the comments here already regarding the vlogs and recent content. Obviously sharing your relationships or not is up to you but I think it feels very stark sometimes when you share yourself getting ready and then it snaps to a city shot the next day with no context. Even just a shot of the food, or the venue where you are, would help give context and flow to vlogs and help feel like we are coming along

    I love your vlogs at the moment, and for the reason you were saying of them not being city trip vlogs but a routine. I'd love one day to go and work abroad in a similar way to you are where its a couple/few months and you're getting used to how it feels to live in that environment - so it's fun to see you living this experience. Also, even if they have been more limited snapshots compared to your london vlogs, you've been so happy and it's shone through the camera and been in the comments for every single video of your trip. I hope that's true to real life, and if so please just keep doing what makes you happy Lizzy!

    Firstly, please post whatever content you feel inspired to post!! The reason I love tuning in to your UA-cam content is because you are genuine, you show us your perspective/your real life, and to me this is what is the most interesting. Secondly, I agree, I actually don't watch any of the high intensity programming available, it effects me tremendously, I've avoided Squid Games even though it's so popular and everyone is loving it!

    I've been absolutely adoring these vlogs. seeing small snippets of your days is interesting to me regardless of that you do or where you are because I find you interesting. I think people must've assumed that because you were taking a trip that you'd drop everything and become a mega tourist and show them all the things they wanted to see, when in reality because of your line of work and also who you are (to me you've always come across as laid back, and you seem to settle well wherever you are), your vlogs fit accordingly. I think it's totally unreasonable to leave a comment telling someone what you don't like, when you could just as easily stop watching the video/ unsubscribe. You've had a LOT going on in your life recently, and the fact that you've been able to keep up the content, and keep it at a high standard is a gift as far as i'm concerned.

    I enjoyed the travel vlogs and the content you've been making so far, as some people have already mentioned in the comments, they're really 'artistic' and capture the spirit of the place, they feel natural, unforced;
    what I can say I miss is probably some more 'fashion-y' content; 'outfit ideas' type videos as well as just I would personally really enjoy hearing your two cents of various topics/questions: related to fashion, trends etc (but of course not limited to that). I also missed a book talk: reviews/recommandations, but perhaps you haven't had the time for that lately with the recent travels. also interior decoration inspo sounds like a great video - where you draw inspiration from, things you like etc
    I'm really curios about more on film photography; how you started, what camera/films you use (and for what); tips, what you found from your experience with shooting on film.// I was looking on the blog at the pics you take, they're gorgeous and there's an obvious improvement from say, two-three years ago. i'd love to hear more on that.
    other than that, keep up the good work, it's really paying off :) inspiring and beautiful per usual

    I don’t normally comment but I couldn’t help myself this time around. The way you’ve been vlogging has been great in my opinion, every time you shift your content ever so slightly in whichever direction it never feels forced or unnatural to watch. You can’t please everyone for sure but I’m definitely happy with how you’ve filmed things so far. And being from Toronto, I loved seeing it from your perspective, it just felt like you were hanging out same as anyone else.
    One of the bigger things i’m looking forward to if you’re up to filming them is renovation stuff/interior design, more of your perspective of NY, etc and of course your adorable cat! I can completely understand the need for privacy and respecting others’ space in your life when it comes to filming, so all in all I trust and support your filming/vlogging decisions ❤️

    After reading some of the comments on this vlog, it got me thinking that it would be fun to see a video where you identify some alternatives for your favorite Arket pieces (or Weekday) from brands that are available in the US. I realize that would mostly be to serve US viewers, but I would personally love it-I’ve been searching for good alternatives to the Weekday Rowe jeans (which are often sold out on US ASOS), Arket blazers and those nice Arket men’s sweaters you have. I echo what others have said about your content choices: don’t feel pressured to film everything, you deserve personal time and should get to share on your own terms. Love the city walk/city scape montages, and interludes of you enjoying a coffee somewhere and reading. I’d also love to see some snippets of thrifting in NYC, or going to some of the independent boutiques there (others will complain that they’re too expensive, but I enjoy seeing beautiful things and don’t always need to be able to own them.) I also enjoy a week in outfits, and watching you curate multiple looks with one piece. Thank you for sharing!

    Hey! I'm sure other people have recommended this but just in case not, I thought I would mention that while I'd say definitely visit the Met if you can - it's amazing, and I'd particularly recommend going for one of the late nights because you can have a drink on the rooftop and the temple of dendur is especially nice at night - I'd also really recommend visiting the Neue galerie if you've never been there and have time for it! It's small but beautiful/atmospheric, there are some beautiful Klimt pieces, and getting a slice of cake at Cafe Sabarsky is an nyc institution. And then you can go to the Albertine bookstore a few blocks away, which is quite beautiful as well!

    I certainly still enjoy watching these vlogs (a lot in fact!) but I can see how the content and perceived relationship with the viewers has changed over the last little while. It almost feels like a friend has bought a house and has all these things going on but you haven’t had a chance to catch up with them to actually hear about it in ages! On an unrelated note I’m in an area of Canada where COVID is still an every day consideration - despite the caseloads being low, I can’t get past the fact that travelling for pleasure still seems a touch tone deaf. I get a sense from many influencers that they have “moved on” from COVID which is a different kind of luxury many of us can’t afford just yet. That’s not necessarily the sense I get from Lizzy but I definitely think it’s clearer then ever that we live in very different worlds. But Lizzy, your style can’t be beaten, and it’s possible I’m just sad that 1) I don’t have a career that allows me this flexibility and 2) to be missing out on that sweet sweet Reno and Luigi content!! Enjoy the rest of your trip! And quite frankly I’m already waiting for the next video :)

    I’m always up for more of your narrated or silent observations as you walk around a city! In the case of non_speaking segments, my one ask would be to either A) add the music in at a volume that matches your speaking volume or B) enable automatic captions (which would let folks keep the overall volume lower and catch what you’re saying via subtitles). Whenever I have the volume high enough to catch your spoken audio, the music always bowls me over when it drops 😂

Also, maybe visit thrift stores. There are lots in the city. Glad you are venturing upstate. It's a whole different vibe. Another suggestion is the Chelsea area. Have you walked the Highline? I love you, your style, your book content and well …everything really. Which is why i’ve thought about your content and what feedback to offer.
    I think it’s about small tweaks. Of course maintain privacy, choices and agency over your content.
    You know on TV shows when they give you a recap for people like me who forget the plot line or might have missed an ep? I think you might want to do that a bit more.
    I don’t watch all the time but i’m a pretty regular viewer but I don’t know why you are away from London for this period of time (more than a holiday) I also don’t know what’s happened to Luigi or if you miss him? You’ve probably said all this but I think it bears repeating so we feel engaged with your life and in the loop and involved with what’s happening. Otherwise i think there’s a risk of your beautiful stylish content becoming less impactful because we don’t know enough (within reason and totally within your control) of what, why, how, who etc.
    I really hope this is respectful and maybe even helpful. Please keep making content xxx

As I have been following you for few years , the recent travel vlogs definitely less of focus of certain concepts , except you mentioning the sponsors, which is fine; I could only remember the brand name and many many coffee walks ….. These vlogs do have a bit of a different feel from some of your other travel vlogs, but perhaps thats just an expectations things? Would be really cool if you did a sit down chat section in the next vlog of your experience, travelling alone in North America (if you are travelling alone) and where you've been eating etc? Highlights/lowlights and just some general chat about your experience? And any house updates? Assuming thats why you're staying a bit longer in NYC if things are delayed? Appreciate this might be too personal but would be really interetsing to see some kind of budget/cost for this trip - would love to do something similar one day!
