  • Artex was the most widely used covering in the UK for many years but it's been out of fashion for a long time now. The trouble is getting it off has been a nightmare, especially if it was applied in the 70's when there is very likely to have been some lead mixed in with it. X-Tex is a water based, solvent free Artex remover which (as the video shows) is simply brilliant. It dissolves the Artex in minutes, allows easy, safe removal and daesnt damage the surface you are working on. Simply wash the surface down aftre you have removed the artex and you are ready to paint. Video prepared and presented by www.diydoctor.org.uk. ive just bought this product to get rid of artex thats years old.. theres an awful lot of paint to get through. do you recommend that i use a paint stripper first then the x-tex or if i applied the x-tex thickly like in your demonstration would it get down to the artex and just scrape off?

Hi, yry the X-Tex on a corner of the room forst, it may welllift thepaint and get down to the varnish. If it does, great but if not you will need the paint stripper. You can get a paint stripper here from the same people, eco friendly and non toxic www.diydoctor.org.uk/DIY-superstore/catalogsearch/result/?q=eco+solutions If the X-Tex is very slow to eat thrugh the paint before it gets to the artex it may pay you to get the stripper anyway. Good luck and please do let us know how you get on it may help others.

would a house built in 1995 contain asbestos? in the artex

Obviously we cannot be certain Tom as we dont know where or when the artex itself was bought but it's very unlikely to contain asbestos after about 1972
