- A brief look at whether or not 1 sound decoder will do for operating @HornbyModelRailways TT120 Class 43 HST Intercity 125's

Just starting to look at getting into the hobby with the introduction of TT:120 still trying to puzzle out the pros/cons of DC and DCC. Especially starting out, what can run on each and the impact of the new Bluetooth decoders. Watching lots of UA-cam and info on the internet.
Hope my stuff helps…
I equipped my power and dummy cars with sound as I've got a job lot of HM7000 sound decoders from when Modellbahn Union had them on sale for just €50 each. I have to say, I like it but you do need to flip backwards and forwards in the App to get a realistic effect. Kind of works for me and as I've only got one running line, I've only got two engines running at the same time. I would indeed not want 4 power cars running at once!
I fully agree that the set should be different numbers. What would be really cool is if they took the Executive liveried one and painted it in blue/grey to get the option of an exhaust deflector fitted set in blue/grey.
Great vid as always!
Oh I like the idea about the latter more common exhaust deflector
The very question I had after the previous video has now been answered - so thank you.
BTW I've only just found your channel as I'm in the planning stage of my TT120 layout 👍
Excellent, grab a brew & put the playlists on auto. 😉
I had to check myself - I thought for a moment those were 00. Really nice.
If you get as many HSTs as I got the impression you're planning to get, I think you may need to collaborate with Pete Waterman on a layout build 😁
I enjoyed Jimmy's little addition to the end of the video. I remember watching T.M.W.W.B.K. as a kid, and recently watched it again having been reminded of it since subscribing to your channel. A classic film which I enjoyed immensely.
I’ll pass that feedback onto Jim 😀
As for a big layout, there has, of course been one designed on AnyRail for some time now, just need to sort the loft out then I’ll have a 4m x 8m !
@@PeachyTT120 That will be some layout. I'll look forward to seeing that.
Alright Chris that went over my head a little bit but got there cheers great video
😅
Just reading the new catalogue. Looks like the set has the same numbers as the train pack. Doesn't bother me, tbh. As a GWR/WR fan I'd be happy to see a 253 numbered set rather than a 254 one though. I've only bought the 1977 blue livery so far, especially as that was my era trainspotting. I may buy the swallow one eventually, but the class 50 diesels are next up for me. Don't really like the modern GWR green HST livery so much ironically.
I would like to see some 1st gen (single car) DMUs and other newer more modern DMUs.
Me too
"A bit of a wetty" 😂😂
Glad you're happy with it mate, once TT grows a little more - I'll have a go with a little shunting layout I think, just to see what it's actually really like - no HST though , don't really fancy a wetty....😂😂😂
I was a proper blouse, I tell thee…
Nice. Def don’t see the need for two sound decoders, so looking forward to the non-sound ones coming out!
Thoughts on Jimmy’s closing bit?
Never object to a short clip of a classic. Is that going to vary each time or be the new closing scene?
@@gregmacdonald927 I think it might be around for a while… brand development apparently
I think the GWR one looks beautiful. Not the nostalgia factor I know and I’m not buying any of them since I’m a steam person
Why does the Hornby HST need 2 decoders when the PIKO ICE only needs one? They seem similar.
Obviously I’m not privy to Hornby’s design decisions, but I agree that copying Piko’s system might have been preferable. Perhaps they prefer the flexibility in rolling stock their system allows?
I have just been running my DCC fitted TT120 blue/yellow HST 125s. I have noticed that both units carry the same class number 254 004 on the front. Surely they should have different running numbers?? Doe anyone else have two traction units with the same number? the E numbers on the side are different (E43062 / E43063)
Hello Stephen, yes I think this is prototypical. I believe the early ones were numbered up as matched pairs? (Or something like that)
@@PeachyTT120 thanks for letting me know. BTW - I completely get your "bit of a wetty" The 125 set was my first set too. My brother had a LMS Princess Elizabeth train set and i got the 1976 Evening Star and two pullmans but to actually get the boxed train set was something special. 🙂
I can't believe Hornby released the HST without a consist mode in the app.
Well technically the App does have a consist mode but only with the dongle & a DCC system, but yes, I thought we were waiting so long for these models because they were working on the software. Maybe they just ran out of patience with the programmers?
Can I set up a consist on an old style DCC controller and then use it with the app?@@PeachyTT120
Cheers Chris, can I ask how you store your models when not in use?
In plastic stackable draws from B&Q with a little bit of card inbetween so they don’t rub their sides. Cheap as chips
@PeachyTT120 Cheers, and thanks for another video, My HST is running round with 1 decoder in also and it's fine, especially with the red lights on in the the dummy, you wouldn't know. I think I will follow you in purchasing the cheaper non sound decoder for the dummy car in time.
@@davidrigby7984 makes sense to me.
Are you not getting the GWR one too ? :)
It’s on my Christmas list 😀
