What would be impressive isn't if Jean Grey can resurrect herself , but I think resurrecting the entire mutant population would be impressive .
it's what the phoenix is made for. death and rebirth. destruction and creation. seems almost likely that she will tap into that.
Jean has a talent for survival. My fav is still transferring her mind into Emma’s body & even using Emma’s latent telekinesis during the first Upstarts battle with Shinobi. This move has never really been examined or revisited as it wasn’t a minor moment. For that matter Emma transferring her mind into Iceman’s body shouldn’t be overlooked either as usually entities like Shadow King are more known for this.
Jean doing what she told Cyclops was wrong seems natural after her way didn’t seem to work with the gala going so bad.

Jean once said her greatest fear was not being Phoenix. Not Madelyne Pryor. It was herself. She would have no one to blame if she were to lose control of herself because of the power she wields.
People who say Jean Grey is too perfect do not realize that that is by design of what she had already been through. And it will not take much to unravel it when push comes to shove if Jean does not be careful.
This comic seems to be doing GREAT at showing that.
Jean didn't lose control of the power. Remember she was manipulated by Mastermind over a period if time. That set in motion the events that led to Dark Phoenix.
Jean actually came into contact with the Phoenix well before the space shuttle incident- when Annie Richardson died and again during X-men the Hidden Years.
Dark Phoenix has always been my favorite after Storm and Magneto

Louise Simonson was OK as a writer- but her real strength was in the lost art of comicbook editing. She was editor during the peak X-men period of: Dark Phoenix Saga and Days of Future Past
Jean and Exodus have similar powers for most part. He's able to ressurect himself and technically others if he takes their mind into his and reconstruct their body. He did it with Professor X. Im not sure why people would think she would require the Phoenix to ressurect
Jean cant resurrect herself jean is connected to the Phoenix soul bond so I believe this is the Phoenix doing, jean is just a telepath and telekinesis user

@wallisvictor9688 Jean still has the power to ressurect herself without the Phoenix. Young Jean does this before bonding with the Phoenix. Quentin Quire has also ressurected himself, and so has Nate Grey. It's just an ability powerful telepaths/telekinetics have.

I'm one that was very fatigued of the Phoenix, more specifically the Phoenix with Jean. With Rachel it was awesome. That said, the way this story is already going I can see Jean becoming the Phoenix again, but not the problematic psycho Phoenix but, sort of like how Rachel seemed to handle it, almost like it was dormant and at peace within her.
"Fatigued" she legit hasn't had the Phoenix since 2005, it brought her back 2017, and that's about it til 2023!
Before then she was the Phoenix in the 80's!
I agree. My issue with the phoenix and Jean is the constant internal battle for control. That seems to only persist with Jean…
On the flip side, to have someone that powerful on your roster could make story telling an issue. But the Morrison run I believe solved that issue, having jean have access to a part of the power vs. the whole thing. I hope these issues explore her power more than the phoenix. Say what you want about Bendis, but his take on jean and her power set made my day. To see what she can do without the phoenix was on another level. I need that aspect back to adult jean if possible..
For me, I’m just fatigued with Phoenix in general at this point. They overused it several years ago with terrible plot with or without Jean. They need to take a break with it for at least another 5 years because they’re draining the excitement behind it when they’re milking it at any chance they get.
I know Jean is Phoenix basically. They just need to lay off the aesthetic and keep her pink power effects. Don’t want to see no bird or orange palette soon. Just want Jean explored with her Omega potential and not just reasoned that she’s being empowered by the PF. It takes away her credibility of being an Omega level with just her skills. I like the subtleness in this issue because it shows us Jean and what she’s truly capable of. Phoenix or not, just need it to be subtle for now and let Jean be alone herself, whether it’s the PF or a man, they need to let her breathe for a moment.

It feels like we are returning to the Claremont Phoenix retcon era of Jean and the Phoenix being distinct beings yet are one and the same which is not a bad thing in my opinion. Given that Jeans soul is said to be carved from the Phoenix Force itself I would not be surprised if she had access to the power of the Phoenix without technically being its current host, hell it’s not like she’s forgotten her time in the White Hot Room or what it felt like to be the White Phoenix of the Crown we don’t even know if a WPOTC has ever returned to life from the White Hot Room before she could’ve had access to more power than she realised after “breaking up” with the Phoenix Force…like still having access to a joint account with your ex

That line from Endsong always, ALWAYS gets me. No matter how many times writers try to create a distinction between Jean Grey and the Phoenix, passing the Big Bad Bird power-up around from hero to hero like the hottest of potatoes, the truth is, Phoenix will always be too closely associated with Jean Grey. Even Rachel, the Phoenix's "runner-up" host, is noted to be such an ideal candidate because she's the daughter of Jean Grey.

Its not surprising Jean can send her essence back in time… or at least to me its not because the “white witch” “saturnine” did something similar during The X of swords and event.
I mean, her daughter Rachel has the power to telepathically send people consciousness through time, plus chronoskimming.... so Jean potentially having such abilities is not farfetched at all.
That, and Jean, whether she knows it or not, wants it or not, will always have a connection to the phoenix. So anything is possible.

Honestly, I never cared much about 'Omega potential' as a label. In practice, Rachel can do everything Jean can do, she just goes about it differently.

The teen Jean Grey had her powers ramped up. That's why she was able to bring herself back
amped by what? When she arrived in the present, she already had access to her telepathy, something her orihinal self shouldn't have been able to do yet. The Phoenix didn't even like her and killed her, but she forced it to resurrect her.

In this issue, I think Jean was deliberately doing things she normally wouldn't do in order to see a different outcome. In the end it all spiraled out of her control, which means that she was right to do things as she had the first time.

Endsong was the great ending that Jean deserved but also as a fan, I loved how they explored Jean's feats without the Phoenix and how we saw her growing closer to her omega-level status. She's so powerful that even the phoenix kept yearning for her even after these years. The phoenix storylines after her parting with Jean seemed so lost. I hope that the two gets to reunite only for Jean to absorb the phoenix and become one being with it (like how Wanda absorbed cthon but in a more peaceful way as phoenix loved jean and cthon despised wanda).
Love this. Great to see it after the krakoan era changed the relationship to death. Still so sad that none of the movies could get on this wavelength, too scifi, to mystical for dumb action movies
Jean Grey being able to do this is not surprising as being an avatar of the Phoenix force is an ability at her disposal. Plus it was already a part of her powers that she was already well versed in.
It wasn't quite what I expected and thanks for bringing me up to speed on some past stories that I didn't catch on X-men like the Jean Grey ability to resurrect herself from death that she did on issues I never bought/read but also on the teen X-men when they in the future that I glossed over unnoticed when I did buy/read them. This ability of Grey is totally catching me off guard, but I'd ask why she didn't do that upon her death in the Power/House of X, when the X-men were attacked the Orchis station to destroy the Master Mold Sentinel from coming operational. Mutant resurrection would have been unnecessary for her. This first issue story arc that not wiping the memories upon return to the past and remembering their experiences would then become a multi-verse divergency of the Watcher as future would be fractured from occurring all while simultaneously existing in nanoseconds in a virtualized reality of Jean's consciousness and then re-diverged with other conceptual alternatives of her slowly ebbing consciousness of cognitive mind plotting alternetive pathways to returning to physical life. It actually makes Jean not just an Omega mutant but a Omega threat as well, that her physical body cannot be killed and how would it ever be restrained? If the mutant physical body is dead, then how is the physic consciousness still powerful enough that the astral plane can reach back and resurrect physical body to resurrect. Thus, Jean becomes greater as she is in essential immortal/eternal entity. It's dangerous direction for Marvel to elevate Jean Grey from beloved love & moral compass to a new direction and dare say 'Dominion' that defeats Sinister?

I am waiting for the completion after reading the first issue. I thought it was just Jean’s psychic It’s A Wonderful Life moment because it doesn’t make sense to me that she has all this knowledge but still went awry
Knowledge isn't the same as wisdom. Going back and making different choices is a gift we all wish we could have, but no one ever thinks of the consequences of doing so.
Jean can apparently reset her timeline if she messes it up too badly, so this is something she'll only be able to get better with with practice.

That will be 👍🏽 since I think (someone correct me if I’m wrong) Claremont intention was that the PF was her ultimate power at the end, since her soul was mostly carved by the Force.

They gotta decide on whether or not they want Jean to take full accountability for the dark phoenix saga or not. Cause first it was all her, then it wasn’t actually her, and then they started going back and forth on it.
It's funny because people brush aside other Phoenix host's actions because they were possessed, but Jean still gets blamed for something her clone did. I mean, they did give Scott crap about it for a time, but we haven't brought it up in a long time. The reason I stick with the Phoenix switch retcon is because we have it on print explaining how it happened over several issues and for decades it was the established canon. Now they want to just pretend that it didn't happen without putting in the work of explaining the why. Just expect the readers to be too stupid to notice, I guess?
I'm kinda done with the trips down memory lane for her character. We need to go forward. The same energy they're putting into Storm they need to be putting into Jean, especially if you're gonna claim she's one of the strongest mutants alive.

When you mentioned her killing potential threats I thought Moira, that failed, then Emma, then Emma sharing what she learned with Council, then Jean was on the Council, then “why do this when she knows it fails”
Now that I’m writing this she left the Council to be an Xman before the reveal
I didn’t take this book to be Jean literally going back in time. But rather an introspection of pivotal moments in her life that she examines in an attempt to find if there was something different that could’ve been done to avoid the Fall of X. She shouldn’t be able to maintain consciousness long enough to do all this before fading away into the beyond. It almost feels like her soul could be stuck in this state of introspection because those were her final thoughts before she died at the gala.
We don’t know much about the blight-whatever that coated the dagger that killed her. Only that it was obtained from otherworld, a realm of magic. Perhaps this prolonged consciousness is an after effect of that.
I do believe Jean's consciousness can exist outside of her mortal shell, like in the White Hot Room, maybe? The Phoenix is the nexus of all psionic energy and Jean is an omega level telepath, so there could be a connection there. It's probably why she appeared to people in visions and such when she was dead.
Also, during the teen Jean Grey's solo comic, Jean appeared to her as a 'ghost' and even Dr. Strange couldn't sense her.

I know, I'm a bit disappointed in that. She could have battled the Shadow King and done other stuff in the astral plane to help bring down Orchis.

Jean grey is a very dynamic character. She could have healed herself with enough focus a knife through the chest she could alt blood loss, bind planets together and then bind tissue fiber s together all while communicating with fire star. It is just the plot the directs her to die. She needs to be given more growth as a character. She is always Scott summers wife even though he has been with Emma frost and or teased with the closeness of wolverine. This story of krokoa, resurrection, and the cabal of orchis there is the offer of a better world and way. It is not allowed to be because the actions of those who could destroy them. I would have loved to see her completely level nimrod, but they have to drag it out a few more decades. I don't know what is their left to tell with the technological Conclusion of this story arc. That fact that the X-Men don't have any allies asking the bigger questions of who and how they are done in at a social gathering in which dignitaries were present and so were heroes. Tachalla, namor, reed richards, the avengers, there are very few other than captain America and iron man or even Wilson risk how can see what truly happened. I remember how hope summers went in on bastion when she got back from her and cables future and how that impacted both hero and villain alike with the A vs X storyline. Why isn't there anyone out side of the story able to see what happened? Again plot and the direction the story is going, but where is this going? This also stinks of genosha all over again with weapons run amok with no oversight.

I feel like the plot of Fall of X wasn't good when you think about the details. Several mutant characters had to be nerfed or completely absent from the gala in order for the story to happen. Remember how Exodus utterly wrecked Selene just a few issues prior? But he was somehow twiddling his thumbs during the gala. Hope and Proteus? Same. Storm who put down Vulcan in a single strike? Nowhere to be seen. Jean who surrounded herself with telekinetic energy couldn't sense someone moving in on her? Or even have her telekinetic shields up during a massacre? Plot needed to happen. Bad writing, I say.
And where was Legion? I already forgot the plot for Knights of X

I think that you may be on to something. I assumed that it was M.R.But it could be Jean.
if jean grey somehow is sleeping in westview while at the same time wanda create reality (like in wandavision) can jean grey resists the magic from wanda as soon as she awake?
Possible, we saw Wanda was mentally controlling people to act their parts. Some normal folks had little moments where they broke character. Jean mind is incredibly powerful, so there is no way Wanda can mentally alter it to play any role. She may get trapped in West View, but she will not be manipulated. It's just a matter of confronting Wanda after that.
Wanda's powers are innately magical, she's not mind-controlling so much as casting charm & domination spells. Jean was born with her telepathy, it's intrinsic to her being - and it's her Omega-level mutation, meaning she has no limit to what she can achieve within its boundaries.
While I do think comparing Jean's powers and Wanda's is like apples and oranges, in the theater of mind manipulation, Wanda really doesn't hold a candle to Jean.

This issue really solidified for me that Jean is kind of the worst.
There can be no What If Jean Grey stayed Dark Phoenix be sure at that time she wasn't officially the Phoenix. The Phoenix copied her body and took on her essence. So leading back too me saying "Jean Grey" never went "dark".
Maybe a little during Endsong, but that Phoenix was already corrupted before they merged

Part of my problem w the mutant resurrection storyline, is like many of the X-men, they’ve come back with divine means before. Why haven’t we seen someone come back from those means after being brought back by an egg? So take Jean, she was brought back via egg after the Space raid in HoxPox, what is stopping her from willing herself back then too? Then you’d have a Jean problem, I feel like it’s a story they don’t care to get really into…see talon n x23

@@cosmicentity1077Especially every writers ignores another writer story/canon is an issue with comic book writers. For new fans especially from MCU, it's hard for them to even follow an actual timeline.

Didn't you see what Nimrod did to the newly elected X-MEN ? 😅 Jubilee,Dazzler,Frenzy with other 2 mutants died there . Juggernaut was beated and probably is held in Orchis facility but he's alive i belive . Lourdes Chantel also died when she teleported the remaining mutants who resisted Xavier's telepathy in the arms of Emma Frost . They are dead for now till the five come back somehow or revive them if they manage to find settlement in where are they at rn .
Frenzy, Prodigy, and Jubilee are currently deceased, as is Lordes Chantel. Cannonball and Dazzler were caught in Nimrod's initial impact, but they both have immortality/resurrection as part of their canonical power set so that's not likely to stick.
