as you saw with the canyon buddy how everything was silicone, all the newer cars and trucks are basically all silicone as gaskets now a day. i find using the remover cslled "the stripper" made by lawson or something along those lines and a small wire brush and it works amazing, but that scraper u have looked amaqzing

You really should take a look into getting fluid film by the gallon and get a air sprayer off their site. Also get the wheel well fluid film they have its super thick and good for areas that would normally wash off quicker with regular fluid film.

Could be worse. Could be a VW that requires G12-G13 whatever VW came up with. I call it "Super Cool PINK". Last owner of our VW did a dump and fill with the green stuff. Had to flush it all out. Left a thick film of white snot covering all the insides of the hoses and plastic pipes. Found out over at a few VW forums from the techs (yeah, oddly enough they have several VW techs on them!) That's a common complaint. Put in universal Green...and eventually get a clog in the radiator or heater core.... VW's smart. About 30 bucks a gallon!!

To pull back the curtain a bit fellow SMA fans, Eric's beloved tool is what I call the 1128 V2. Uses a new design/technology that we sold most of last year and implements some cool new internals to make them take a beating and keep going.
Unfortunately, since then we've been handing some patent claim issues on this tool.
This means I can no long sell them how we want to, and I'm working so that we can at least take care of warranty customers - which we initially weren't able to do for Eric.
The facts are we want to make better tools, and if bureaucracy gets in our way of making it right we'd rather just move on to the next thing. The 1128's that are on the market now I'd estimate being 90-95% v2's if you can find them for sale, then the tool will retire until the landscape changes :(

I had my speakers cranked when you emptied that gear oil container. My wife came running in here thinking I had a major accident .... :D
Eric - you ever use LPS-3? Stuff is friggin AWESOME. It's like Cosmoline, but dries much faster & thicker. They claim it lasts 2 years (not in an outdoor environment though). I was introduced to it in the coal burning world. We use it on our stoves and boilers in the off-season. Works great! Stuff is a little spendy however. I buy it by the 5 gallon drum, and dump it in the Sure-Shot. Way cheaper than the aerosol cans in the long run.

Thank you thank you thank you, finally someone that works on vehicles for a living and does not like dexcool crap. Converted my suburban over to standard green the first week i got it(all gaskets included). My truck runs 10 degrees cooler on average and after the coolant flush(chemical cleaner) it put out 15 degrees more heat from the heater and dropped down the running temp another 5-10 degrees in the engine. I swapped for 2 reasons, bad experiences to dexcool doing weird things and availability when you blow a radiator hose on the side of the interstate.

In many videos I have heard you mention that in the rust belt the caliper bleeder doesn't want to turn and can sometimes snap off. True this! I have found that if after you install and bleed the new caliper, if you spray the area with brake cleaner (queue dramatic music) AND spray down inside the bleeder with the little tube. Follow up with blowing the entire area off and allow to dry. Now encapsulate the area surrounding the bleeder in a 'chrysalis' of silicone and allow to dry. If done correctly, when you attempt to bleed at a later date, you will find that the silicone has sealed the moisture completely out and the bleeder works as well as when new! Repeat after service for continued weather seal-out. YKW

I Really enjoy the Day in the shop videos. Some of the best you do.. Hopefully the owner will repair the control arm bushings soon. They were a mess. Take Care.
