Best explanation of the ELD system I've seen. Thanks! One tip for doing these alternators, you can disconnect the heavy battery B+ wire in the underhood fuse box with a phillips screwdriver, removing power from the alternator without disconnecting the battery and having to deal with the radio code and going through a drive cycle. That's how I've done it in the past on these.

I am a plumber by trade. Wife nagged me about slow tub drain for weeks. I came home one day to find a competitor’s van sitting in my driveway. You guessed it, she called the “enemy” to fix the tub drain. Loved that girl, I lost her six years ago to cancer, but still remember that wicked sense of humor. I was pissed that day, but it was funny a week,.....no,.....a month later. ☮️

I replaced one on our odyssey. After snapping the nose nipple off of the power steering reservoir I took the wheel off and and passed it through the wheel well. I do wish I had seen this first regarding the belt tensioner. Figured it out on my own after about an hour of cussing. So far it has been a great van. the only other issue we had was the harmonic balancer pulley separating and flying off. Also can't wait for the timing belt video. I need to do it for ours. I have heard that it will destroy the engine if it snaps. Great video and thank you for all your posts. they are very helpful.

I replaced the alternator on my sister's 2008 Honda Odyssey. It was fun. It is so tight under that hood. I removed the wiper fluid resrvior tank and the power steering reservior (left hoses attached) and had to use a steel broomstick handle for a cheater bar to release the serpentine belt tensioner (lol) but I got it done.

Wife has 99 accord EXL WOIH 57000 miles and already changed an alternator. Who would of thunk it. Must be Hondas weak link. Odyssey has 68000 miles guess I can expect that item next. Tell Mrs O I have a timing belt kit ready to go. When you do hers I'll do mine. Yes those tensioner so are solid. Thanks Eric for the video. Buy the way let's hear ALTERNATOR one more time.

Greetings SMA from Chicago. I really enjoy your channel. You are not only a sharp mechanic, but also a sharp technician which unfortunately many other service shops including car dealers lack. I admire your technical troubleshooting approaches using and applying your technical instruments and resources to good use. Keep up the great work SMA. 👍

Just did this alternator job on the same vintage and that alternator is a PIA to get out! Pretty much did the same as Dr. O, except I removed the lower washer jug bolt through the wheelwell, the second bolt holding the A/C line, and unplugged the A/C compressor to get the harness 100% out of the way. Ended up pushing the washing jug the opposite direction he does. Oh, and I left the bracket mounted to the alternator because it makes a great handle to grab upon!

I've been watching your you-tube videos for some time now, and can't believe how the manufacturers have built- in so many ''I'm going to piss you off'' hooks that you have to encounter to get the job done. I used to do this same stuff years ago, and I thought I had it bad. I don't envy you, and I feel for you because you do an excellent job on repairs and go the extra mile to do things right. It could be as simple as using anti-seize or silicone grease but helping out the next guy who may have to repair it again in the future or it might be yourself. I have a 1994 Ford F150 and can't believe how many things that are controlled by that dam computer. You have it worse because you have to have $20,000 in just scan equipment, not to mention the special tools. You do an outstanding job in filming your videos and describing your diagnosis and testing steps and following through with your repair. I get a kick out of you doing a good job in holding your tongue for you-tube but I've been there and understand the under your breath meaning as well as others, ha-ha! Please keep on doing your videos the way you do by yourself or with Mrs. O, because you give a professional yet down to earth summary of what you do. Thanks again! Rubber dog!

Well done Eric, that was impressive, getting that alternator out of such a tight space, but also how complex a charging system is now. is the honda stop-start? cheers buddy, another great video

Kudos for the production work, for a one man show you are doing a hell of an editing job!! Best mechanics channel on YT.
On a side note I have a '12 Hyundai Santa Fe with 40k KM on the clock with some power steering stiffness, I flushed the PS fluid and put some Seafoam Trans Tune and it improved a lot but I still get some stiffness from time to time, is the pump on its way out or the rack it self?

More than likely in the pump would be my guess but that is all it is... a guess!

I just completed my first timing belt, tensioner. and idler on a 06 spectra at a little over 94k. Intimidating at first knowing the engine could go bang if something is not done right. Between you Eric O and Will Robinson over at Robinson's Auto Diagnostics you both inspire me which makes a lot of jobs go a lot easier with a lot less anxiety. Thanks Eric

I recently had an alternator charging problem with an 83 Toyota Cressida. All of the dash warning lights were on. This normally means a bad alternator. The alternator was changed out the system was charging but the dash lights continued to stay on. After a thorough review of the wiring drawing, the problem turned out to be a charge light relay. Solving electrical problems is not necessarily straight forward. I enjoy your videos.

Just did the same job on my daughters 2008 Odyssey. What a nightmare. According to Alldata I also pulled radiator cover and washer bottle. Still a pain to pull and install. Don’t know how you got yours out and didn’t even break the wire clip on back of alternator. Great job.
