- The unluckiest man in showbiz? He’s had opportunities most people only dream of yet few know of him. Eccentric musical genius, singer songwriter and troubadour who has written and performed with the greatest, reflects as his 70th birthday celebration looms - still playing the clubs to pay his rent and looking to kick-start his career.
Featuring: Earl Okin, Helen Shapiro, Ralph McTell, James Torme, Stewart Lee, Ive Mendes, Simone Avadis, Adam Sieff, Tom Baxter, Bob Gurland and Michele Drees.
I was delighted to meet Earl Okin in Cape Town at the famous Blue Dolphin. I spent some time with him, much enjoyed his gigs, and introduced him to some of my friends, including SA singing legend Dezi Ray.❤
"he makes people laugh, he can make people cry too" ♥
great talent and amazing voice indeed
Oh, Joe - I do hope you manage to get this some sort of wider release.
Earl came and performed at my wedding in September 18 and it was such a delight to have him there. Good luck and a following wind to each of you.
I saw Earl play several times at the Kashmir Klub in Marylebone in the late 1990s. He had the place in hysterics every time. Never heard of him again... and here he is 25 years later. So glad he has been able to make a living. Looking forward to the film.
I had forgotten just how lovely his voice is. I met earl in the early 80's and was transfixed.
had a wonderful conversation about Joao Gilberto with him at a club in London where he performed and mesmerized everyone. Would love to watch this movie!
Saw him at the weekend. Absolutely fantastic. So funny
He did a gig in my mates house a few years ago. Was a wonderful evening.
Good on him for being 'different".. thank goodness! Too many moulded the same these days.
He has amazing skills & creativity in music ...and also comedy.
Great Muso,I thought the McCartney photo was photoshopped, well there you go,love his voice....."It's Better To Be A Never Was Than A Has Been"!!
I helped him install a thing called "The Internet" on his early Mac computer. Later saw him at The Fringe. Amazing chap.
"The Internet"?.....Can't see that taking off!
Any updates on this? I'd love to see it.
love his instrumental scats etc & clever manipulation of audiences. A true genius!
The guy is a legend
One of my teachers at Barlby road.
Nice chap
any updates on this?
I'm afraid not, we finished the film 2 years ago, we had a screening running in the UK and it was shown in the US. But we haven't as of yet been able to secure the licensing agreements for some footage in the film that is pivotal to the story for a wider release. We are currently exploring all options. Earl is a legend and this does deserve to be seen.
@@luckydayfilms5331 wishing you the best of luck, you and earl deserve it! it'll stay on my watchlist a bit longer for now :)
@@luckydayfilms5331 hopefully. i'd buy it!
