Hello from Canada! Recently came across your channel and loving it! Thank you for the content! I'd love more info on oil pressure. Original owner of a 2013 A4 Quattro, S-Line with about 225000 KM (~139800 mi). She's been doing amazing. Fortunate to have no major problems, no breakdowns. A coolant leak has developed and I'll be checking it out this weekend. Looks like I might have a new water pump in my future if the pattern you've observed holds true for my car. ;) Thanks again and keep it up!

That was exactly the warning i was getting on my dash a month ago (i left a similar comment on one of your last videos ;), I'm new to Audi so whenever I have an issue i will research it until there's nothing left to research, which is why your videos are such a valuable resource for me (I do all my own mechanic work because i like to understand everything about my vehicles so that i can diagnose any potential issues easily). In my case the warning came on suddenly so i pulled over and shut off the engine right away, i checked and had lots of oil, no noticeable or audible change in engine noise so i limped it home (I was only a half mile from home) seemed the warning would only come on when stopped at a light with low rpm so i would shut off the engine until i was able to move again. when i got home i did extensive research, then checked the engine while it ran at idle, discovered it was really difficult to open the oil cap (tremendous vacuum pressure) which isn't normal, so i did more research based on that, one thing that was recommended to check was the PCV valve cap to see if there is any damage to the diaphragm, so i figured it would be simple enough (so i ordered a replacement cap as they usually break when removed, $20 on amazon), sure enough there was a tiny half inch tear in the diaphragm, received the replacement cap, installed it, and to my great relief it ran perfect after that, put on about 2000kms since and the engine is still running strong and no warnings. So for me from now on I'm always going to check the PCV valve first.

for me i was very lucky. I got the flashing oil pressure light while I was driving home. Car operated at normal speed and sound, no clattering, drove home since I was a few blocks away. Checked oil level and it was fine but my oil was pitch black. I was afraid that the worse had happened but I did research and found that dirty oil and filter can cause a red oil pressure. Did a motor flush with oil change and drove around a few blocks no oil light!

@NaptownTuner try a 0-60 psi gauge. Most pressure I've have seen on my mechanical gauge setup is 55 @6000pm. Idle pressure on these cars is low (to low in my opinion) The trigger low pressure switch at 14 psi and scare the crap out of you. I believe a lot of the timing chain and cam component wear comes from low pressure low flow at idle but that's a whole topic on its own. Have a Q5 started just tripping warning hot at idle but it has a failing HPFP and is putting fuel in oil lowering the viscosity.

I struggled with oil faults on my A4 caeb. Replaced everything i could get to easily. The engine did not sound like it was low on oil but on guage was on low side. Would get a random epc soon as the rpms hit 3700. Figured it had to be balance shafts (as i looked at everything else) and the fact they spin at twice engine speeds. Maybe twice as much wear? Pulled shafts and although the screens was clear and I couldn’t feel any roughness. New shafts fixed it. I no longer get epc. They also say once you pull them they have to be replaced.

I know this is a year late but this is for others researching the issue and in case you have not resolved the issue. The guy here has lots of info but he also lacks lots of info. He does not talk about the oil control valve on the bottom end of the engine. Not suggesting anyone to be a parts changer but I have found a correlation between this control valve and the top 2 oil pressure sensors. It seems they all have to be working properly in order to regulate between high and low oil pressure. Therefore, I would suggest changing all 3, as my research and experience have led me to conclude one of the reasons for the infamous oil pressure issue on this car is electronic and not mechanical. I hope this helps someone out there. Amazing that I don't see anyone detailing this secret

yeah, I think I messed up my 2.0 TFSI BWE engine, I bought it over a week ago, 5 days later I get a low oil pressure lamp, but I was so close to home, normally I would have stopped, but I was so close I thought I could make it, dumb dumb idea, it sounded normal and felt normal for a bit, but as I pull into my house it changed sound and now it sounds like a diesel. I found a used engine, but it was a BGB engine, I called audi and asked if it was similar, and he told me it was identical, so bought it, I hope I can just swap parts for what I need, but I am afraid I need to swap the whole engine. if that is the case. and I suspect its the oil pump that sized up or something, what should I do to prevent the "new" meaning used oil pump from doing the same?

Ohh yeah, Fixed the car btw, was a clogged oil pickup, and I had to replace the turbo because it died, however, by the amount of oil that was in the intercoolers it was about to go out on me anyway so I guess it did not matter too much. But now, I got a low oil pressure lamp again -_- afraid it might be the same issue since it happened shortly after my first service after the repairs. I bought an oil pressure gauge like you have there and a new sensor hoping and praying it's just a sensor. also, what is the pressure supposed to be on the BWE engine? anyone know?

I think oil pressure is escaping back into the pan though that drain back valve, causing the switches (and my gauge) to see low oil pressure in the filter housing. It’s usually the oil pump or balance shafts,.
on a real oil pressure concern with this engine.
A real oil pressure concern will be consistent every time the oil warms up and thins out, oil pressure is escaping past worn parts in this case. I’ve already got a video where a oil pump fixed a oil pressure issue.

@@NaptownTuner I am not a dealer tech so I only can speak for mostly out of warranty vehicles. I believe I have seen a bad oil pump but the shaft or something had play. It was obvious. When I see bad balance shaft, the engine is basically locked up. I don’t know if the oil screen in the balance shaft causes a pressure problem first. It is usually tool late when I see it.
Most oil pressure issues I see can be from oil separator having a leak, cam bracket oil screen and I have seen the ball valve bust out of the bracket. Sometimes the oil pressure switch has a leak. But for real the best fix for high mileage is proper oil and a lack of idling.

Oil pressure regulation valve. Worth swapping if you have one. I didn’t this time. So far I haven’t known that to ever cause an issue but someone can always let me know what they have seen. It’s similar the the oil control valves for camshaft adjustment on the v engines. I’ll talk about it more if people want a better video.
This time I think it was just a switch, I’ve seen that more often than not but the balance shafts seems to be the big one if the cam screen is already popped out.

Buy a gauge with another scale, 5 bar at maximum will give you better reading's.
