Throughout the video and in many of the comments, I heard the yellow oil can symbol being referred to as the oil pressure warning, which is technically not correct. The oil pressure warning is red and the oil can blinks to attract your attention. It also says OIL PRESSURE underneath the oil can. If you get this warning then you must pull over as quickly as can be done safely and immediately shut the car off or risk the possibility of severe engine damage. In contrast, a steady yellow oil can light means your oil Level is lower than it should be. It is intended to alert the driver to check the oil level at their earliest opportunity, but it is not an emergency situation requiring immediate action. The low oil alert typically comes on when your oil level is about 1 qt below the normal level, which is well above the critically low level whereby the oil pickup tube is no longer below the surface of the oil. This light can also come on for a variety of reasons other than the oil level being low, e.g. failing to reset the Service Reminder Indicator (SRI) after an oil change, a defective oil level sensor and even a defective hood latch switch. I have experienced all three of these scenarios with my 2009 Audi A6.
Simple check to make sure your oil pressure circuit is working is to check for the dash light when your key is in the run position, just before starting. All the warning lights should be on, which tells you the circuits are good. If they go out after starting, all good.
Bought a used 2014 VW GLI with 53k in valley outside LA. Used the recommended Castrol oil to 10k miles. Had my oil light come on once and downtown VW dealer topped me off for free. But after watching Scotty Kilmer videos I began changing oil every 5k miles. I switched from Castrol to Blie Liqui Moly oil and it burned WAY less oil. Then I moved to the green Liqui Moly Molygen oil. My car burns WAY less oil now. I change every 5k. I never drive my car until RPMs fall back to 750. My car runs like a dream.
That was a new story for me on Quik Lube places. Filling a car up instead of the transmission. Learned my lessons on a long time ago and do it all myself now.
I know two different people who blew up their engine by (over)filling it with oil after getting an oil *pressure* light. In both cases their dipstick tip had previously snapped off (they seem to be fragile when old). So my advice would be to always replace the dipstick if the end snaps off, they're pretty cheap.
@Ivan Morozov There are lots of ways it can cause damage. For a diesel, you can get a run-away situation if the excess oil starts to be burned as fuel. Additionally (for any vehicle), the oil can get foamed up and may not be able to be pumped any more, or it can cause over-pressure, or in extreme cases you might get hydrolock. I can't post links here otherwise youtube will block the comment, but if you google for it you will find each of these explained in more depth.
I've just learned about the Oil Level Sensor, connecter and wires. I accidentally snapped the wire driving on unsealed roads when a stick got caught under my engine and ripped the wire out. I was stranded until I worked out how to get the car started. What happens is when the wires go bad, you go into limp mode and you blow a dash fuse and your car won't start up. You need to reset the computer to delete codes and replace the fuse, she'll fire up. I was stranded for 2 nights before figuring it out.
I'm sure most people watching this channel are people like me. I'm a certified auto tech since 2003, worked at BMW dealership for 3 years, but I enjoy this channel for the jokes and the things I learn here and there.
Hi, i have Sharan shows oil pressure light is flashing i changed the sensor, had flash 1 time 2 filter oil ..... still doesn't go i spent more than £1000 and its still there .... would u please advise me what shall i check?? Thanks
My Jetta had an intermittent oil pressure warning, that only came after driving for 10-15 minutes. Turning the engine off and on again made the light go away. Oil level was OK, but I had a small leak... through the oil pressure switch.
similar problem with my 2001 golf 1.4 gasoline. after 20-25 min driving, the red oil warning shows up intermittently with stop warning. Several times I changed the pressure sensor. I changed the oil several times as well. The oil pan and its filter cleaned. It had some metallic dust in it. But still I see same warning. The mechanic told me the oil pump is OK. Also I start hearing knocking noise from the engine and another noise appeared after I drive 30 min, the engine noise becoming like a diesel engine when only I am accelerating. What do you think? Is there any suggestion?
@@MrTheHillfolk if you change your oil every 10-15k km, I don't think it is worth it... Your TDI engine should last 450k km before needing new head/turbo
I just had a reconditioned and reprogrammed ECM put in my car last Thursday, April 20, 2023. "Change oil" indicator came on and often flashed. The oil was ok. I called my mechanic. He reset dash signal by pressing knob on dash for about 20 seconds once or twice. It went away. I also had a coolant light on. I've fixed that before by jumping the attachment or switch that came up to coolant resevoir sensor. I disconnected it and jumped it with a paper clip thus rendering it inoperable. Coolant is perfect I changed it all myself a couple of years ago.
I just use a clean paper towel and put the end of the dip stick on it. The oil shows up well as a wet spot. Just slide the stick over a little and compare the wet spot to the end of the dip stick. This shows the level really well. Never had an issue doing it this way.
@@drizzyboy5000 I do this too, but it always looks dark on the paper towel, even if I just did an oil change. What I do sometimes is smell the paper towel. I assume that would help to indicate if the oil is clean or dirty. What do you think?
put twice more oil than supposed to, got it seized, then opened spark plugs, to let the pressure out, ran few miles around the block. Was hell smoky for a while, but in few day's got back to normal.
Some 500 to 600 miles for 1qt of engine oil 5w-40. 2013 Audi Q5 3.0T. Already flushed some $5000 on repairs-water pump, oil separator, valve cover gaskets, the short tube between the oil separator and supercharger, some hoses. The coolant issue was resolved. But the engine oil consumption issue is not resolved.
When your "electric dipstick" breaks (oil level sensor) put tape over the wires so you don't blow a fuse, clear the code and drive home. I've been driving this way for two weeks now and the code didn't come back. I have the 200 dollar electric dipstick but need new wiring and plug as well. All parts sold separately I've recently learned. I might sell the electic dipstick and not worry about it.

Hi, bit off topic, but on my 2007 Audi S3 2.0 TFSI it's coming with a oil temp sensor fault on VCDS, but I can't find much information if they're combined with the oil level sensor! Thanks in advance 😊
This video should just say that if you see oil pressure warning light - it is the only chance you can get saving the engine - and how fast you react to it (in less than a second...) determines how much damage your engine just got...
1 second @ 1500rpm = 25 rotations.. if you get there in 500ms, that's less than 20 rotations, which with a low oil pressure shouldn't do much damage... without any oil pressure your engine will still probably work, but the damage will depend on the engine I guess. There are probably videos on UA-cam on how much damage you get. :)
Personally I think not changing or checking your oil should be a capital offence. However, there are YT videos of engines running without oil for considerable time.
@@jamescaley9942 I wouldn't call minutes a considerable time... Running engine without oil pressure for seconds will cause considerable damage that will present itself when you actually run your engine for considerable amount of time (years)...
Having an issue where my low oil light keeps coming on on MK7 golf r. Just changed the oil sensor with a Fush oil change and it ran good for about 600 miles. Now it's back annoyed, any insight?
OK so I'd like to know so my golf 5 gti been giving me the oil pressure error once it hits temp then goes away. Any advice? Because I'd like to change the sensor and switch as well as the oil filter and cleaning the pump is this what I should do?
Im having an issue where im getting rattling. Sounds like theres a lack of oil lubrication. It happened after doing timing chain kit. im getting low oil level but its topped off already. Electronically it oil level says not available. After the engine warms up and high rpm the oil level light comes on. Any idea what it might be? Prior the car good. No rattling. Very lightly at high rpm but not its louder.
He all! I was getting a oil pressure code had the level sensor as well as the pressure sensor replaced. Light still came on. I added the revision oil cap and adaptor and so far so good. So if you’re getting an oil light and your oil level is good, check that you don’t have the skinny wobble stick when you remove your oil filter cap. Gen 3 2.0 2013.5 Beetle
I was told by my dealership the back of my engine was covered in oil, they said i was leaking oil from my turbo wastegate and needed a new turbo. I was surprised because i have no oil light ir check engine lights on 🤔 on my 13' VW CC 2.0t ccta fwd with 100k miles
At 500 000 km my 1995 Audis oil pressure switch failed, but not in a way that people think it would. Light didn't come on, instead the oil pushed through the sensor element and the connector filling up the sensor boot, part of the wiring harness and finally leaking out.
I had something similar happen with a Ram Cummins fuel filter heater. It was leaking diesel into the connector and then INSIDE the wires and coming out on the other side of the wiring harness.
Is good to warm the engine until 190 degrees to measure the oil. I have VW Tiguan with 120000 and yesterday show me a warning pressure red light for second and said stop the car. Also I haven’t seen a full stick after add 5,5 Lts on every 10000 miles of oil changed. The stick always mark low level
Our VW Golf TDI engine light came on during driving in the miserable heat in CA ! I stopped and checked oil and water which were level. Now the Pressure gauge does NOT go to the Mid Point immediately as if used to do!! Dip Stick shows the correct level! The only error code I see is P2456 for EGR Cooler and not related to OIL Pressure!. Is it possible the OIL has lost its viscosity due to massive heat of over 112 degrees!?!
I have VW tiguan 2014.. I am facing this warning issue only when i am driving above 75 MPH or driving above 3500 RPM. Oil is good ... I want to know what could be the issue...
I had a neighbor who explained that he used to have a car, "...But it ran out of oil." He made it sound like it is perfectly normal for a car to run out of oil.
My oil light flashes only when the key is on the on position (accessories) 2002 VW GTI 1.8T. Does this model have a VVT sensor? Or is it the oil sensor? Oil is good and new.
What if low oil pressure light comes on intermittently, told the dealership about it, head of the department told me not to worry about it because my car is old and has high mileage. 09 vw passat, 2.0t, 160,000 miles.

Don't forget if your car fails to crank due to things like low battery voltage you'll receive this warning too, especially if you keep cranking. Don't ask how i know.
Pretty much. Oil is responsible for lubricating + cooling the engine so without oil pressure all the metal parts start grinding on each other and overheating
Thank a lot for the info. What do people mean when they say ground you oil pressure switch ? Is that just to test the sensor it self ? I have a 1.9 TDI Jetta 03. My engine was rebuilt and now it's throwing the oil warning. It only does it like 10-15 minutes after fully warmed up and smokes a bit more at that time and not while warming up.

I don't understand these audi practices about oil. MMI shows me the oil minimum, I should add a liter and I have 20 on the dipstick! (0-27 CPMA engine) I do not know what to do :( if I add oil, it will overflow. Yes I opened the hood of the car and waited 10 minutes according to the MMI instructions still shows minimum. I do not know if I should use the oil dipstick or the MMI
@Paul my nieces car was overfilled about a quart and her being a new driver she kept driving until the surpentine belt came off and had to get towed! Shop replaced the belt ,low oil pressure sensor and the oil change/ filter however the car still flashes the red light at 25mph. It drives fine they took it on a trip for over 500 miles after that but the light no matter what they did is still on every single time they drive it.
True I destroyed 2 oil pans.... just saved one engine. But it was on a Pontiac Sunfire... who cares :P
Having an issue where my low oil light keeps coming on on MK7 golf r. Just changed the oil sensor with a Fush oil change and it ran good for about 600 miles. Now it's back annoyed, any insight?
Hi Patrick, same issue here with MK7 gti. Have you solved it?
Lol I've been driving with oil light for 4 years, vw jetta mk4s are built like tanks, I believe it's rod bearings as I've checked everything else
OK so I'd like to know so my golf 5 gti been giving me the oil pressure error once it hits temp then goes away. Any advice? Because I'd like to change the sensor and switch as well as the oil filter and cleaning the pump is this what I should do?
Very useful. Thanks
I did timing chain kit and valve seals. I was having a smoking issue not related to the rattling but not im having this problem.

Gross haha! At 500,000 km I suppose it was near end of life
I had something similar happen with a Ram Cummins fuel filter heater.
On a British car, you know it’s time to add oil when it stops dripping!

Lol. The dipstick. Dips stick hole. Bottoming out. Man. My sense of humor is dirty 😂
Just installed a dipstick. Need a new oil sensor. Well you can’t get cap off well, so PCV needs to be changed. Audi Q7 2018.
I had a similar warning on my vw car had oil engine sounded fine it turned out it was the oil pressure switch was faulty
I drove today for 10min to go and get engine oil when I had low oil pressures light on. How screwed do you think I am now.
What if low oil pressure light comes on intermittently, told the dealership about it, head of the department told me not to worry about it because my car is old and has high mileage. 09 vw passat, 2.0t, 160,000 miles.
i have to check the cvt fluid now, thanks!
2021 Vw Tiguan 15k miles. Low oil came on. Like nah. Going to dealer they can do it and deal with it not paying if under warranty and have complementary oil changes.

After the lf after you change the oil you find some metal shavings what does thst mean?
Balance shaft assembly probably bad
@Duetscheautoparts
Man I wish I found your video last week I literally just changed the oil pressure sensor and all he11 broke loose !….. so thinking it was something else now I did the valve cover gasket ignition coils and spark plugs thinking that would fix the issue the cars running worst then before I switched the oil pressure sensor and put all new parts on the car mind you I started at 6 am it was so cold I took many breaks and finished at 7pm an yea I think it’s time to just take to shop
or we are watching because we watch all your videos 👍
I like this guy hhhh, and no I’m not new to cars I just have a haunted A4 hhhh that I couldn’t tell what’s wrong with it
Oil pressure engine off:
I have 5psi or less on warm idle
27 max psi when revved
Time for new oil pump?
2009 mk5 gti tsi 2.0 cbfa
Ps. Have engine tick(sounds like lifter tick)
Do the Mk7 R’s known you burn oil? I’m at 96k change my oil every 5k and usually have add 1/2 to 1 quart. I’ll change how often it is
So since my last oil change I’ve been getting random low oil pressure warning lights the level is always fine, and on restart the warning go away. Had the oil pressure sensor replaced. Still getting the warning at random and still always goes away on restart. 2015 q7 3.0t
What do I need to do if oil light is always on even if the oil is enough
Don't forget if your car fails to crank due to things like low battery voltage you'll receive this warning too, especially if you keep cranking. Don't ask how i know.
Yeah you might be right bud' my car gets the light now recently because of the cranking. my battery is old' 2008 and need to replace it
Does low oil pressure = low/ near no oil in the engine to lubricate the parts needed for the engine to run efficiently without issue?
Pretty much. Oil is responsible for lubricating + cooling the engine so without oil pressure all the metal parts start grinding on each other and overheating
the oil light shouldn't come on when you turn the key ? golf 6 gti 2011
Thank a lot for the info. What do people mean when they say ground you
oil pressure switch ? Is that just to test the sensor it self ? I have a
1.9 TDI Jetta 03. My engine was rebuilt and now it's throwing the oil
warning. It only does it like 10-15 minutes after fully warmed up and
smokes a bit more at that time and not while warming up.
And what if I check oil level and it’s perfect but after driving like 30mils light pops out saying Oil Min ?
i am trying to reset my service indication and so on but it will not reset what to do it came back when i start the car it is a golf gte 2018 mod
My oil pressure light come on my 2.0 tfsi on track 4 Laps in the last session but has been fine since and not come on since I let it cool down 🤷♂️
So question, how can I check the cleanliness of my oil if, say for example, Audi made the brilliant idea of using a black dipstick in the car?
Good day.i have a vw polo gti 2015.i started it the other day after i left it for 3 weeks and changed the thermostat.started the car and it was good.took it down of the ramps and was ok.took it for a drive and about 200m from my house it started to knock.like a big end bearing knock.i cam back driving it slow and checked that there was almost no oil in it.but no oil light came on or nothing.add oil but stil that knock.so is it a bearing knock now beacause of low oil or is it the oil pump.i took the sump of and no sighn ofa bearing.
Replacedpump both sensorsoil filter n oil same results
Hello! I have a Mitsubishi lancer 2009 with a 2.0 tdi vw engine. i have excessive oil consumption (2l in 200 miles) and a p0299 underboost condition. I've checked the turbo and it's fine and there are no oil leaks on the engine or under and no smoke. no oil in antifreeze. can you please help me with some tips? 🙏🙏
I drive a 08 Gti recently low oil pressure light randomly started coming on ive had oil pressure sensor replaced along with an oil pump engine sounds quiet and seems to be running smooth wut could this issue be have also just had new spark plugs coil packs intercooler air flow sensor and serpentine belt replaced as well my car doesn't seem to be running hot either
I have Passat 2.0,last week low pressure warning sign came up on dashboard,so we change oil,oil filters,we changed oil pump too,we changed turbo too but that low oil pressure warning sign still appears on dashboard, could you help us
Mannn I feel u like wtf
Hi i have the audi A4 2010 B8 2.0T and i have the problem the its consuming the oil what piston i can buy?
With key switch on and engine off an low oil pressure warning it is clearly a symptom of a damaged oil pressure switch
dude with that oil pressure light i drove 750 kms, and nothing happened. I gave to service, everything was changed but still the problem didnot solve. These issues are mainly found in VW vento and skoda rapid.
Having that issue rn bro on vw
@@Kyro_maticdid you manage to sort it?
sorry sir which one oil good for audi a4 tfsi 2013 1.8 from weather iraq 5w30 or 5w40 ? thanks
Camshaft sensor was damaged as well I personally replaced it for them but I also mentioned dont drive the car unless VW runs the full scan on it. They just got back from the trip and light is still on and I look like A FOOL! I know there is something underlying issue but I dont know what could it be. It happens the minute you drive it at 25mps but car runs smoothly.
Any thoughts @ShopDap!
same problem bud' I replaced oil pump, oil pressure switch and crank shaft with new rings and bearings and most importantly I repaired my Turbo professionally. why do I still get the Oil pressure low/Switch off engine sign? this is so terrifying. my car is at 176km, haven't drove it for long distance.
Really wish I could do my oil change but you guys haven’t sent me my kit yet because it’s out of stock.... for nearly 2 months 😕
My oil light is on on my audi but no oil is leaking or anything, I'm confused?
I got problem , oil drive wheel sleeping on oil pump drive shaft
